Pros: Excellent sound and quality throughout. Cons: Subwoofer is not powered like the original Cinema Propack model.
I bought my JBL Cinema Pro Pack II from Harman Audio on e-bay. I paid $450 shipped for a factory refurbished unit, although everything appeared brand spanking new to me. I was immediately impressed by the sleek look of the components and speakers upon...
Pros: Automatically selects best audio mode to play DVDs Cons: Remote doesn't light up
Buttons are tiny, Weak FM Tuner
Purchased from a major electronics retailer this is a good entry level system with 600 watts of total power, enough to punch up the bass when it counts for sceenes with explosions. If you crave more earth-shattering base purchase a powered subwofer....
No remote, no additional DVD functionality by loisvwest ,Oct 25 '04
Pros: System is generally very good. See other reviews. Cons: Additional DVD features available only with the remote. Getting remote takes months!
This is a heads up to help others with the same DVD problem.
All of the additional DVD features work ONLY WITH THE REMOTE. That means that if your remote gets lost or damaged, all you can do is play the DVD without any of the advanced features like extended versions, interviews, and behind-the-scenes info.
In addition, it can take MONTHS to get a replacement remote from JBL.
Needless to say, you can spend a lot of time trying to get advanced features to work using the DVD front panel controls. Who would think all functionality wouldn't be there? After that, you'll need to make numerous calls (long distance at your expense) to micro manage the process of getting a replacement remote.
I PURCHASED THIS SYSTEM FOR THE RECEIVER WHICH HAS 100 WATTS PER CHANNEL. THE SPEAKERS, WHICH DO SOUND VERY NICE, DON'T COMPARE TO WHAT I ALREADY HAVE SO THEY'LL BE SOLD. THE RECEIVER IS SOLIDLY BUILT, HAS MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER TO RATTLE THE ROOM, AND HAS VARIOUS SOUNDFIELDS. I WAS TOLD BY THE HARMAN KARDON REP THIS UNIT WAS SIMILAR TO ONE OF THEIR ENTRY LEVEL UNITS. IF THAT'S TRUE HK MAKES A GREAT RECEIVER. I COUPLED THIS UNIT WITH AN OLD SHERWOOD ES 1280 AMBIENT SOUND UNIT TO CREATE 7.1. IT'S PRETTY CLOSE TO THE SOUND I RECEIVE FROM MY PIONEER 811 UNIT AND AT A FRACTION OF THE PRICE. HK HAS DISCONTINUED SELLING THIS SYSTEM AS OF 7-31-04 BUT IF YOU CAN GET ONE OF THESE RECEIVERS YOU'LL BE VERY IMPRESSED. THE UNIT WORKS IN CONJUCTION WITH 2 CERWIN VEGA VM5'S, 2 PIONEER 252'S, 2 GOUGH ENCLOSURE SPEAKERS, A JENSEN CENTER AND A SONY POWERED SUB. BELIEVE ME, THE SOUND IS FANTASTIC. THIS SYSTEM DIDN'T COME WITH THE CD PLAYER AND I PAID $237.
