Pros: Wide range of viewing formats, progressive scan, parental lockout, 3D Phonics, Quick Playback with Sound Cons: Instruction manual only in English
I enjoy the luxury of playing DVDs in my home. Especially fun are all the bonus materials that come on certain DVDs such as actor and director commentaries, making-of features, blooper reels, actor profiles, games. So imagine my upset when my RCA DVD ...
Pros: Low price Cons: Does not work correctly with widescreen TVs.
I purchased the JVC XV-N40BK DVD player to "upgrade" my 2 year old Pioneer DV-333 (standard interlaced player). The improvements I expected were: 1) Progressive scan playback with automatic scaling of non-anamorphic DVDs and 2) ability to play JPG files...
Pros: Very nice price, excellent picture quality, nice design, and user friendly. Cons: Does not use the top rated Faroudja deinterlacer found on high end models.
I was tempted to upgrade to progressive scan when JVC offered a $20 rebate. So at the end, this player costs about $70 shipped so it was a very nice deal. 1. Cosmetics. Nice sleek design. The silver finish is satin like, smooth and will complement ...

Great Player At A Great Price. by saltbox10 ,Jan 09 '04
Pros: Fair price for the product and lots of features. Cons: Disc tray a little flimsy and the 3D phonics aren't worth the price.
After researching many DVD players I purchased JVC XV-N44SL at BJ's for $80.00.After the rebates that I found for this product the total price was only $40.00(I am still waiting for one rebate.).So far this player has done everything that I expected it to do and more.I especially like it's ability to play JPEG files. It did not have any trouble playing a CD that I had burned myself. It also does fairly well at playing scratched discs. So far it has only had one problem reading a disc. The disc was from the library and it looked as though someone had played hockey with it.One other feature that I like is how quickly the DVD starts playing(usually within a few seconds).
So far the only complaints that I have about it are that it's disc tray is a little flimsy and the 3D phonics sound does not work that well. When I bought this player I thought that I would use the 3D phonics all of the time, but I hardly ever use this feature.
Overall I am glad that I purchased this player and I expect it to keep it for quite a few years.
