The JVC XV-N50 is a lower-end DVD player offered by JVC. This unit caught my eye while I was at Best Buy, it's very sleek looking, and I do like the black color job. Well I decided to buy it and then later return it. Today, there are many DVD ...
Pros: Terrific, feature rich, low cost player with great playback and media compatibility Cons: So-so remote that we don't use anyway and night light tray
I generally prefer to be detailed with my reviews, but a lot has already been said about this DVD player. Setup... easy Picture... great Sound... great Scanning (Fastforward and review)... great Slow Motion... great Pet Peeves Honestly, ...
Pros: Looks, Features (reads EVERY type of Media) Speed, Size. Cons: Toggle on remote.
WOW, what a player! I had an older Sony DVD player prior to this The Sonys confusing remote, ability to only read DVD and CDS NO CDRs or anything else, and poor interface left me unsatisfied. So, I went to Best Buy and looked at ...
Pros: Great design and implementation. Picture rivaled Samsung HD-931 at a lower cost. Cons: MP3 implementation. And, the JVC brand, but I ambeing converted into a believer.
I was fortunate enough to receive a Mitsubishi 48313 HDTV for Christmas this year. So, naturally, I couldn't wait to retire my existing, non-progressive scan, Panasonic DVD player in order to replace it with a better choice for my new setup. ...
Pros: Thin, Great design of remote, BASIC user friendly DVD player Cons: Give it 4 years and glitches appear
This DVD player plays well. Over 4 years I noticed some glitches happen (scene gets stuck, things like that) but it's a decent DVD player. The size is average. A little on the large size but very thin. It'll take up the top of your tv but won't take much ...
Pros: Looks really slick & plays a variety of formats Cons: My rudimentary universal remote won't activate all the features (such as dimming the display)
I've waited a good long while before buying myself a DVD machine, and it's true that I've only had this model for a few days, but at least so far I have no complaints. I've read some online magazine reviews about this model that slam it pretty hard ...
Pros: Nice slim design, reads various types of discs including JPEG files. Cons: Stutters on certain discs about 30 seconds after fast scan.
I recently purchased this player after seeing it was rated as the number 2 player in a Consumer Reports issue back in December. After numerous trips to various local Best Buy stores, (I had gift cards to use), I finally found this player. Setup was ...
Pros: Super thin unit (less than 2"), sleek design, incredible video/sound quality for a modest price. Cons: This unit will not properly display the video IF you connect through a VCR.
After doing some research on the "top names" in the DVD player market, I found that great quality could be found with the "upper-middle class" of the market. I had my choices narrowed down to: Sony, Pioneer, Toshiba, Panasonic, and JVC. After reading ...
Great Player small glitches by pyramiddij ,May 03 '08
Pros: PLAYS ANYTHING AND ANY FORMAT YOU THROW AT IT! :) Cons: dies after about 4 years :(
This player, even though not advertised will play PAL (EUROPEAN VIDEOS)!!
It will also play anything burned, DVD, CD, VCD, MP3, PHOTO CD ect.
After 4 years though, expect freezes and stopping here and there.
My finally died when I touched the player and static electricity made a spark and killed the player!

Running with the big dogs! by cshamwell ,Mar 07 '04
Pros: Does everything it is supposed to do extremely well. And looks very cool doing it. Cons: I'm still looking...
I am going to get straight to the point. This is one of the finest products in all of audio/video! Unless you are looking for a player with six-channel direct output and super audio, spending any more money on a multi-disc player would be just plain dumb. This player has the advanced features of a player costing three times as much. With component output for video and optical output for audio, picture quality is superb and audio playback is wonderful. And matched with my HK receiver, it makes for one great looking setup. The xv-n50 plays almost everything. And I don't think there is a player on the market that is as thin as this one. This player makes high end performance truly affordable!
Tons of features for one low price. by brandonf ,Dec 08 '03
Pros: Plays anything, Great sound and Picture Quality, Cons: NONE
I bought this this player to replace and older JVC DVD player that would not play homemade DVDs or CDs. So far I don't have a single complaint about this player I have yet to find disc that this player won't play. This DVD player is a perfect example of what JVC is famous for, giving the consumer more more than they paid for.
Pros: Compatibility! Stupendous Video, Crystal Audio! Cons: No random play on Mp3 Mode.
This is one incredible player!
Also, epinions.com does not have Best Buy as a store that has this DVD player, but they do, and they had in stock for $100, plus the $20 mail-in-rebate, so it was cheaper there, then online, plus I had it that day.
Anyways, the player does incredible things.
Plays DVD/CD/VCD/SVCD/Mp3 formats/WMA formats/DVD-/DVD+/DVD+-RW/Jpeg CD/Kodak CD
It is also Progressive Scan (software-wise). There are a few DVD players which feature hardware Progressive Scan, but those are few in between, and are of miniscule difference.
It can play literally anything.
I really recommend this player to everyone! I'm a electronics aficiondos, and this DVD is awesome!
Great DVD player with a price to match by implexant_dt3000 ,Jan 09 '04
Pros: Inexpensive, lots of features, very responsive, easy to use. Cons: Blue light that can be dimmed or turned off. Actually kinda cool :)
Got this for $85 shipped after rebates from etronics.com.
Very impressed. Plays scratched discs very well, plays practically any format, very sleek design. Purchased it to replace a Sharp DV-710 and am very pleased. The controls and functions are very responsive and crisp. Everything works perfectly and as it should.
I'd highly recommend this to anyone for a first DVD player, or for a fourth. Has advanced functions and technology for the advanced user, but easy to use for a new user.
