Pros: Good Performance, Ticket Guarantee Cons: Expensive, Cheaper Yet Better Performers Out There
K40 is one of the hottest names on the radar detector market. They are known for making very expensive remote units that have fairly decent protection. The newest unit is the K40 RD-850 which is just about identical to the K40 RD-650VG2 on t ...

K-40 RD850 (owned for a year)
by pc54321 ,Nov 29 '05
Pros: Low false alerts, radar ticket ins. Cons: Laser alerts on neon signs
Detected all types of radar at a reasonable distances (under 1/4 mile).
However when tested against a RX65, I could tell it fell short in the detection department. The most troubling part was when I saw it laser alert on a neon sign while parked at a hair salon. I called K-40 and they said they had never heard of that happing before. I don't know of this happens to other detectors or not.
I found it hard to read the alert lights when used on the visor of my truck. It took a while to understand which sounds meant what type of radar was present.
I liked the mute function.

Pros: awesome police radar detection Cons: awesome at detecting automatic doors, which helps to find gas stations and super markets sometimes
Got it for $150-$179 depending how many i oder because of dealer pricing.
The best dashboard model out there.
I gurantee you will throw away any other type of detector for dashboards that you have used.
All my friends run these because we get them so cheap.
i am running the $999 system which cost roughly $450 once again because of dealer pricing. It has radar detectors in the front and the rear behind the bumper.
amazing system, don't car for a jammer either. but with photo speed boxs active jammers are looking pretty nice especially if you hide them behind the bumpers, by epoxing or siliconing there cases for water proofness

Great Detector awsome price
by jjneff ,Jan 06 '04
Pros: great detection, little to no falsing!!!, all hardware included, CHEAPER Cons: led display, missing some frills of the 8500
According to an independent study done by SML the new k40 850 is in the top. Please read for yourself at www.k40.com
I have found a store that is selling this unit for 199.00 considering this is 100 less than the passport 8500 this is a super deal!! the unit is very quiet and it is easy to tell the different signals coming in. It has a wonderful instiant on alert which is very important to me. The hardware is quality and the unit is small and light. You can't go wrong with this trust me!! plus you have a 1 year ticket(s) garuntee!! even if you get caught by laser. Granted they won't pay your insurance increase but hey its better than anybody else is offering. This unit dose not have some of the frills of the passport 8500 but as far as giving you awsome protection it dose just that. If interested in this price my email is jjneff@earthlink.net
