DVD Player for the price of a DVD? It is true!

by balajithegreat , Dec 15 '03
Pros: CHEAP! Good remote, pretty good picture and sound.
Cons: No indication of active/standby. Takes a while to recognize disks. No progressive scan.
I was scanning the salesheets for after-thanksgiving deals and this one caught my eye. It was a DVD player that you could buy at Best Buy for $40 and get a $20 mail-in rebate, making the cost of the player only $20. I decided to take a chance on it. ...

NOT ALL DVD PLAYERS ARE CREATED EQUAL

by trustmeiknow , Jul 19 '04
Pros: Digital optical output
Cons: Freezes up all the time, unreliable, undurable.
The average buyer has a huge misconception about Dvd players. They believe that, aside from additional features, all DVD players perform the same function, that is to play DVD's. Therefore, all are essentially alike. I have seen this misconception ...

Decent Player, Great Price

by bigdirty , Oct 21 '03
Pros: Price and included features
Cons: Load time, unit design
Normally I wouldn't buy a sub-$40 DVD player, but I needed one that could play VCDs, SVCDs, and DVD-Rs. Thankfully, this player does that. Also I needed a player that the new Sony released DVDs actually saw as a region 1 and wouldn't lock up. So inste ...

Great and Cheap DVD Player
by kmartjunkie04 ,Jun 15 '04
Pros: Cheap, Stylish, Good Quality
Cons: Cluttered Remote Control
I bought this DVD player for myself earlier this year at Best Buy for $40 because I needed another DVD player. I couldn't pass up the chance for such a cheap, stylish DVD Player. It was simple to install and looks very sleek in the space it occupies. Several movies have been played on it, and none have had a glitch! It has many capabilities such as playing Windows Picture CD's, MP3's, etc. It is a cheap quality DVD player, and I would recommend this to anyone.

KLH KD 1220 DVD Player
by jsws4life ,Feb 22 '06
Pros: Played the movies really well at first.
Cons: Cheat isn't always the best way to go if you want it to last.
My DVD player lasted 12 months. The screen kept saying there wasn't a movie inside of the player, when there was a movie inside player. Eject button had to be pressed several times before it would eject the drawer to remove the movie. I paid $50.00 for it, and thought it was a good deal, but you get what you pay for. I will put more money into the next DVD player, and will stick with a a top brand name DVD player. Save your money and time and research before you buy.

Spend a little more, get a lot more
by laughing_girl ,Nov 21 '03
Pros: Can change volume with DVD remote. It's pretty.
Cons: Doesn't work well. The remote is way too complicated for the machine's technology.
Being a college student, I wanted a cheap, no-frills DVD player. At $39.99, the KLH was it. Unfortunately, my $40 didn't get me much more than a shiny silver thing to set on my T.V. While watching my first DVD with it, it kept "freezing" during the movie. It would just freeze the screen for 5-20 seconds, then continue playing. At first I thought it was the rented DVD I was watching, but when the second and third DVDs did the same thing, I knew it was the player. I took it back and got a Magnavox for just $20 more and it's much better. I do miss the ability to change the volume with the DVD remote, but I'd prefer to watch a movie without it freezing up.

When I returned the player, the sales guy at Best Buy said he's had a lot of KLH's returned. My advice to anyone looking for a really cheap DVD player is to spend just a little more and get something that actually works.

A Piece of Junk
by pqspin ,Dec 17 '03
Pros: It powered up.
Cons: Doesn't recognize most of my dvd's.
I never buy "no-name" brands, but at $44.95(BestBuy), I thought that I would give it a shot.
I am so sorry that I bought this player. It recognizes about 30-40% of the commercial dvd's that I have bought. It is not worth a penny.
Spend a little extra and get a brand name. There is no customer support. KLH seems like a fly-by-night company.

Died After 4 Months!
by lan3030 ,Nov 16 '03
Pros: Inexpensive, can show JPEG files
Cons: Cheap, not built to last
I bought this DVD Player in July 2003 for less than $40, and though it was a great deal. However, it died just 4 months later. When it worked the picture and sound were OK but not great. Now, it will still turn on, but all it does is spin the DVD inside. There is no picture on the screen and it doesn't react to any attempts to stop or eject the DVD. I ended up taking the player apart to recover my DVD from inside. Of course it's about a month past the 90-day warranty, so there is nothing I can do but throw it away and buy a new player. Needless to say, I'll be looking for something different. I guess you really do get what you pay for (and sometimes less)!

Garbage!
by theyankees ,Oct 07 '03
Pros: Sleek design, small footprint
Cons: Didn't work properly, very slow load time, no real options, confusing remote
It would have been more worthwhile for me to take my $50 and flush it down the toilet to save me from the aggravation of this DVD player. I had this DVD player for less than 4 months (but of course, longer than the 90-day warranty period) when the button to open the DVD drawer broke. I could not open the drawer either from the machine or from the remote. I had to physically take the machine apart to rescue my poor, trapped, DVD in Distress. I guess I learned my lesson that you truly get what you pay for. I'll be sure to keep that in mind when I buy my next player.

Very Good for $49
by markb50 ,Nov 28 '03
Pros: Good Picture
Cons: Remote is not the best but what do you expect for $40 LOL!!
I bought my KLH 1220 back in June 2003.Have watched 100 hours worth of programs. It will even play cheap type dvd's like Dragnet circa 1955 i bought at Wallgreens.

Right now watching Star Trek TOS Volume #22 Bread and Circuses.I have a JVC 9911 SVHS and this little unit beats it 2 to 1 at least in picture quality and it cost $400 !!

I think it is a good starter unit.

What a deal!
by danst ,Oct 11 '03
Pros: Price! DVD!
Cons: Unknown durability.
I bought this in the summer of 2003. I am VERY pleased. It does everything I need from a DVD player. The picture is great and it shows my photo CD's. We'll see how it holds up over time, but at $40, how can you go wrong? Whenever I upgrade to a HDTV, I'll upgrade to a progressive scan player.

Good player, great price
by romeopeoples ,Jan 28 '04
Pros: Great price for features.
Cons: No video mute for CD play. No power off on remote. Remote text small.
This is our first DVD player at home. Bought it at Best Buy because of great price $44 - half of others at the time. Also it had component video out. Works great after 9 months. Has played all of our DVDs and CDs only a few skips. Haven't tried other formats yet. We misplaced the remote (couch ate it) for 2 months, so we couldn't use the menu features on DVDs. Called KLH 800# for replacement ($23) and got APEX electronics. Seems Apex makes this and KLH put their name on it. The support person said the Apex AD-1225 is the same except for label and cosmetic front cover. Found remote in couch stuffing so didn't order remote. Like a lot, no problems with play so far. Wish it could be powered off by remote instead of hard switch. No video mute when playing CDs thru TV, so KLH logo is on all the time. Remote printing small for my eyes and no universal remote codes yet.

the little bargain that could
by freetolio ,Jan 13 '04
Pros: volume on remote, price, size
Cons: tray only opens when on, video output carries distortion
This little player works well with all types of recorded dvd+-r media. It also does RW well too. The features are a little hard to access sometimes, and the video outs may require some jiggling for the picture to be crystal clear. Can't beat it for 20 bucks

Best player I've used
by oppinnyonated ,Jan 03 '04
Pros: Absolutely no problems!
Cons: The unit must be physically turned on and off.
I have 2 of these units & they are fantastic for the price. I use them all the time & have had absolutely no problems. I went through 4 name brand players prior to these & they all had problems playing discs. These other players cost $130 - $250. I highly recommend the KLH KD1220.

Universal remotes don't work with KD1220 - anyone selling a KD1220 remote?
by esh123 ,Dec 23 '03
Pros: Good price - multiple formats supported
Cons: non-standard remote
I have a KD1220 that is missing a remote. I can't find any universal remote codes that work with this model. Does anyone want to sell a KD1220 remote, or a broken KD1220 with a remote?
