Pros: Reasonably strong, easy to clean, affordable, great quality. Cons: Slightly noisier than their older models, but that's due to the metal gearing.
The KitchenAid Pro 5 Plus is one of the newer models with the spiral dough hook. It draws 450 watts, and has a "flour power rating" of 12 cups (of all purpose flour) according to KitchenAid. The dough hook and flat beater came with a white enameled ...
Pros: Sturdy, great for attachments, mixes well, long-lasting brand name Cons: Hard to add ingredients, motor or safety gear may fail
I got a great deal on this Kitchenaid Professional 450 Watt 5 quart stand mixer this past holiday season, so I went ahead and picked one up. I hadn't really been planning on it just yet, since I don't have the kitchen I'd like to keep this on permanent ...
Pros: Great brand, looks, colors, all-metal transmission, speed controller, sturdy metal construction, attachment variety. Cons: Plastic gearbox can crack or melt, negating metal transmission benefit; gets scorchingly hot while mixing.
I am so disappointed. This is a terrible way to start a review, especially of a product I was so excited to purchase. I believe KitchenAid has a hard-earned reputation for quality, that they are squandering today due to the use of a poor quality ...
Pros: Tough as nails, powerful, mixes everything from meringues to stiff cookies doughs very well. Cons: Large, takes alot of space, expensive but worth it.
All I can say is I love my KitchenAid Mixer! This was a gift from my aunt and let me say that she is now my favorite aunt! This mixer is very sturdy. I have used it for everything from mashing potatoes to mixing stiff cookie dough and it never ...
Pros: Hands free mixing!!!! Cons: Very large, overtakes my kitchen!!
I bought my Kitchen Aid Mixer refurbished off Amazon for $162.00 plus free shipping. It came about 10 days earlier than I expected and it has been great. Refurbished has a six month warranty but hey I can bake and mix a lot of foods in six months. ...
Pros: Great look, comes in an assortment of colors. Good quality. Cons: It is expensive, kinda heavy, and not really practical for everyday use.
My family has always used Kitchen Aid mixers so naturally, it was one of the first items I placed on my wedding registry. We are so pleased with our mixer. It's a good quality piece of machinery and it looks beautiful in the kitchen! We got it in Ice ...
Pros: The only pro is that it appears to look like it will last, but it won't. Cons: Your mixer will not last beyond 2 years, instead of a lifetime.
I bought a KitchenAid Professional 5 Plus Heavy Duty Mixer, especially because I wanted to make lots of bakery goods for my household family. Little did I know that Kitchenaid does not have quality mixers. After a year of using my mixer very lightly, one ...
Pros: Nice addition to kitchen decor. Very happy with its versatility and how it works. Cons: Has a slightly hard job mixing whole wheat dough.
This is a product that I was considering purchasing for a long time trying to weigh the pros and cons of spending the money on it. I finally broke down and bought it and I have owned this product for over a year now and am very happy with my purchase. I ...
Pros: Kitchen Aid mixers are easy to use and easy to clean. Cons: Double the cost for nothing!
We owned a regular Kitchen Aid stand mixer for 13 years and LOVED it, but when we decided to upgrade to a heavy duty 5 qt. bowl lift stand mixer we were in for a very big disappointment! Regretably, we gave away the first mixer and theirs is ...
So nice to have my hands back! by kariellen ,Oct 05 '06
Pros: Hands free baking. Cons: None that I can think of
I got this as a Christmas present last year and I have used it so many times since then, that it was definitely worth the price that was paid for it.
It is so helpful especially when I bake a lot for school, work and holidays. I have not had one problem with this mixer in the year that I have had it and the accessories that come with it are helpful. There is even a small recipe book that comes with it that helps you to know what accessories work best with the recipes you are making.
You can even knead bread dough with this mixer! I would recommend this to anyone who loves to bake and doesn't seem to have enough hands in the kitchen. This is also great if you have small children who love to help with baking.
This is the second Kitchen Aid mixer that I purchased. I thought that by buying a more powerful mixer that I would be able to make bread easily. However, the plastic gearbox has cracked and I have had the mixer about 18 months - just a little over the warranty period. My husband was trying to find the parts to fix this mixer and we can't even find parts. Why buy something that a person can't even fix? I am very disappointed and will never buy another Kitchen Aid mixer.
Great Mixer for Everything by bbruppenthal ,Apr 18 '05
Pros: able to knead bread dough
planetary mixing motion Cons: beater cannot reach every inch of the bowl
I love my mixer so much. I use it for everything I can in the kitchen. It has been able to handle everything I could throw at it. I love being able to walk away while it's mixing bread dough or meringue. Also, the planetary mixing motion (the beater spins in one direction while circling inside the bowl in the other direction)is great for thoroughly mixing ingredients and getting an even mix. However, I have run into trouble when the mixture is thick or sticky, like with cheesecake batter. You need to take the bowl out and scrape the bottom really well to make sure all of the cream cheese gets mixed in. It's a bit of a hassle, but nothing else would do the job any better anyway.
Pros: Looks Cons: Durability, Lies from KitchenAid about having an all-metel gear installed!!!!
Hello! I am a simple two-person household. I thought, yes, having the KitchenAid 450 at home would cover all my baking and cutting needs. BUT: What about durability? Nonsense!!!!! I get a clonking noise out of the gears, which were supposed to be metal? Yes, I get the noise!!!! But after reading other reviews I learn that the gear box is PLASTIC!!!!
I will get rid of this junk ASAP and get a nice KRUPS instead.
I had good luck with good old German technology: KRUPS, MIELE!!!! Nothing else enters my home anymore! Folks, don't buy KitchenAid anymore!
Clever mixer! My Precious! by steelmeadowmom ,Mar 18 '05
Pros: Big, powerful, fast; love the new spiral power dough hook. Cons: None so far, wish there were other colors though.
Finally, the mixer of my dreams! Passed on the larger 6 qt mixer and the 5 qt Pro is more than adequate. First day I made French bread, whole wheat bread and zucchini cake... IF one follows the KitchenAid guidelines, things should be fine. The customer reps I spoke with prior to purchase where helpful and honest.. "Don't knead bread too long and don't overload the mixer's capacity" Ok, sounds simple enough...
Thought I was getting a good product by peach69 ,Jul 30 '07
Pros: Like the attachments and the shell Cons: Gearbox has major problems
I wanted a durable mixer that wouldn't give me any problems. I am single so I don't use this much (once every other month) I make bread and pizza dough, I got the pasta attachment ( which I love) . When I am making pizza dough (5 cups of flour) the motor sounds like its really straining. Needless to say POP goes the gearbox. I used this three times and blew the transmission. I brought the unit back figuring it was just a bad one, used it four or five times again POP goes the transmission. Wouldn't mind it if it cost $ 20 but it doesn't . I have talked to several other people and their transmission also blew. (NICE) I even heard on a cooking show on how many of these HE had blow up on him. So I guess I just have a pasta machine.
