love it
by jimmyjamesinc ,Dec 07 '06
Pros: picture quality, ease of use, preset settings, zoom
Cons: size, too big to fit in a pocket
I've had this camera for 1.5 years now.
I absolutely love it. the quality of pictures are great.
the ezshare software is very easy to use and you can email pictures to others via the kodak website (won't slow down email)
I've been taking pictures at some weddings that rival the professional photographers!!!
I also picked up a lens kit from ebay, screws right in, wide angle, extra zoom, filters, very cool stuff.
the ONLY drawback is that it doesn't fit in my pocket

Finally worth printing the many digital pics I take! Yippee!!
by anniem294 ,Jan 23 '05
Pros: Great quality photos, easy to use, nice selection of scenes.
Cons: On off button is in a weird spot like everyone seems to complain about!
This is the best camera I've owned. Takes great photos and the print quality is excellent! I had a couple printed at CVS yesterday, they look better than any 35mm camera I've ever used. The good thing is you just pick the ones you want to print, and pay for only them! Also, you're not buying film and wasting getting them all printed when you only like one third of them to begin with!! Just great!!

I have 3 grandchildren and I play to capture every single bit of each ones life, so it was worth the $499.99 dollars - in the end I'll save plenty on film and developing charges!

Kodak Camera
by chrismel ,Oct 05 '06
Pros: Great pictures, Easy to use, Great video
Cons: Biger then the smaller cameras out there wont fit in pocket
The camera is amazing. Kodak is really great product. Its now my 5th digital camera and this one is by far the best one yet. I have now had the camera for 4 months no problems at all. Very easy to understand and use. We got it for a great price brand new on sale. The pictures come out amazing compared to are other camera which was also a 5 megapixle. The video capture is amazing as well. I recomended it to a few people already and Two of are friends ended up buying it cause they loved it so much. I am sure the other kodak cameras work just as well. This is are first Kodak camera and we are staying with this brand name from now on. Thanks KODAK

GREAT FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS WHO ARE STARTING OUT

Love this camera
by jlybly ,Mar 22 '05
Pros: excellent pictures, enough features for a pro, simple for a newbie.
Cons: small on/off button, could use a better lens cover holder
When I was looking for a camera, I wanted at least a 4 MP camera with lots of optical zoom. I also didn't want a tiny camera; I have large hands. I initially looked at the DX6490, but at the same time the DX7590 came out. Amongst the reasons we chose the DX7590 was the 5 MP, and the 10X optical. A bonus was the unlimited movie size. We are currently using a 512mb SD card which gives us more pictures than I could label at one time. I really like the size of the camera, it's close to an SLR, but not too big, nor too small. I am really impressed with both the quality of the picture (I have set the default to 4.4MP which is 4 x 6 size); and the movie quality is unbelievable for a camera. Would I recommend this camera, you bet. It works seamlessly with my Mac as well.

Easy to use for novice and expert alike. Small on/off button only major drawback.
by tromar1 ,May 02 '05
Pros: Very user friendly with many different modes, including video, black/white, etc.
Cons: Small on/off button. Even with adequate lighting, DX7590 prompt to open flash.
Kodak's DX7590 is by far better than many of its competitor for the simple fact that it is really simply to use. A relative newcomer to the digital photo world (like me) will master the menu within minutes. It is self explanatory, and even provide a descriptive phrase for each setting on the large 2.2" LCD screen.

Moving Up
by hwmson ,Jan 05 '05
Pros: Easy to use Great value for the buck Long battery life huge memory cards
Cons: Low light auto focusing has 20% failure. Even daylight has too many focus failures.
I wanted something more than my first digital camera. I wanted a LOT of optical zoom. I wanted various exposure modes and the ability to shoot in low light situations without flash. I have found that the controls and modes are easy to learn and relatively easy to use. The 10X Optical zoom is fantastic. Add the digital zoom and it's like a 500 mm lens on my SLR. It could use image stabilization, but for the price it is a great camera with one BIG problem. FOCUS FAILURES are way too common. I need to get in touch with customer support and find out if it is a problem. This camera definitely needs manual focus override.

Don't count on nice pictures
by kingpenm3 ,Apr 26 '05
Pros: Looks good on paper (like communism)
Cons: Have to use blind luck to get even decent pictures.
This camera has been a horrible experience for us. The features and press made this camera sound great and we couldn't be more excited until we tried to use it. This camera is awful. Don't even dream of doing any point and shoot picture taking. Only a few of the pictures will turn out. It is like playing the lottery for good pictures. If the picture turns out in focus it just seems too digital. The worst part is the zoom. Anything over half zoom is so blurry that you have to instantly delete it because of how bad it looks on the 2" screen! The ultimate catch 22 is with anything close up. I tried to take a picture of my wife's hand with a new ring. First the macro mode couldn't focus on anything closer than 24". Then when I backed up to focus in the picture was blurring with the zoom. I wouldn't recommend this camera to anyone, unless you like to take 20 minutes to try to catch a decent picture by luck every time.

Easy to Use - Right from the Box
by vsionarium ,Dec 08 '05
Pros: Lots of useful features, take beautiful, high-quality photos
Cons: Accompanying software is not so great
I got this camera as a gift and straight from the box I was taking pictures. I love all of the features - black and white and sepia options, a setting for taking action photos and even night ones too. The only thing that could be better about this camera really doesn't have anything to do with the camera itself - it's the software that comes with it. Sometimes I have issues getting Kodak's "Easyshare" program to upload my photos from the camera and I also find that this program is not as user friendly as it could be.

Just about there Kodak
by realbear ,May 31 '06
Pros: Ease of use. Quality of pictures. Ease of downloads.
Cons: Clear pictures with movement are not possible.
For taking basic pictures of friends, family, landscapes, etc...this is a fantastic camera. But, and it is a big BUT, the auto focus does not react quick enough to get pictures of people that are moving.
With that said...the downloading of the memory into a computer is fast, efficient, and fairly well organized. The quality of pictures is wonderful and the printing of pics up 8X10 is extremely clear.
If you are looking for an everyday camera to take along on trips, family outings, holidays, or just to sit by the front door to take those spur of moment pics, then this is the camera for you. But if you want to take pictures with movement such as sporting events, you should look else where.

Camera great for Average user.
by pasekmi ,Mar 19 '05
Pros: Quality pictures. Battery lasts a long time and charges quickly.
Cons: None.
This camera fits nicely in the average hand, and appears to be built fairly solidly. I've dropped mine once and it keeps in ticking. It has a nice 10x optical zoom and owners have the option of manual settings.

Some folks have complained about the small on button. It's supposed to be small and recessed to prevent it from being turned on accidentally. Some previous Kodak models (e.g. DX3600) had a problem where the camera would turn on when you where putting it in a camera bag - you wouldn't realize it until later when the battery was dead.

What Can I Say....Awesome!!!!!
by laughingdragon ,Feb 15 '05
Pros: Takes Awesome Pics. Print quality is Awesome too.
Cons: None
I have the DX3900 and wanted to upgrade. I researched many cameras and kept going back to this one. As soon as I got it I loved it.

I have taken it to baseball games and get incredible pictures. I've also taken pictures of jewelry with ease. I usually get the picture I want within the first 2 shots.

It also takes great pictures in low lighting.

It is a camera that can be used for taking any kind of pictures

You won't regret getting this one!

by demarren ,May 10 '05
Pros: light, good for travel, good lens, nice pictures, easy camera. fast but you need to turn of the preview.
Cons: pictures can be better. to muts compression,to high noise reduction.
Its an verry good camera.
not the best in low light but good.
no focus problems.
at the end of the zoom you need good light of high ISO to
get the picture sharp.
Exept if you have sun.
Can't say this is an bad camera it produce nice pictures.
A little on the red site but.you can twink thad with anny software.

macro is verry good.
But you can't use flash in macro.
you can get verry close to your macro but use the onboard flash is not possible.
the lens block the light.
at 38 MM

The Ev is verry good.
picture are verry good.
but not at 100% then you can see some bluring in the pictures coused by the havy compression.
Iso noise is verry good.
simple I can't see anny noise.
but on the other hand noise reduction is set to high.
It was better if you can turn on or off noise reduction.

Weak Main Selector Button
by johnfmartin ,Aug 16 '06
Pros: Good value initially.
Cons: Multifunction switch/button weak. Lens adapter problems.
The function selector lever/joy stick/button seems to be a weak part in the DX7590 camera. I had noticed how flimsy the button felt in a demo unit at Staples before a purchase at another Staples, and sure enough, after one year, the button failed. Kodak wants $150 to fix the problem.

Whenever a lens adapter is screwed into the main body so that an external lens/filter can be used , all future pictures are much darker, even with no lens/filter attached.

I thought that buying a relatively expensive camera, I would avoid most cheap quality problems - my assumption was incorrect. I am sure I have purchased my last Kodak anything.

i had the 4.0 and now the 5.0
by tkhart ,May 09 '05
Pros: easy to use. great looking prints. great color. great close ups.
Cons: to review pictures, the screen must be viewed at an angle.
both are great cameras. very similar. the 5.0 has more functions with the same ease of use. it is a great camera for beginners who want professional quality. everything is so easy to use. each setting tells you right on the screen what to use it for. it's a fairly no-brainer. at the same time, a more professional photographer would enjoy the more experienced seetings. this camera has everything. i love th super close ups as well as the 8x digital zoom. fantastic camera for the money.
