  • The Larrivee D03: A high quality low cost mahogany acoustic guitar

Sep 19, 2002 by Horswispr is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Musical Instruments
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Excellent sound, intonation, and playability at a very reasonable price
Cons: Cosmetically quite simple, but still attractive

Summary: I am excited. Epinions has finally added Larrivee guitars to its website, meaning that I don't have to sneak reviews of Larrivee guitars into other categories by comparing them with better-known instruments from Martin, Taylor, and Guild. Larrivee ... read more

    Pros: Great sound, solid construction
    Cons: Nothing that stands out

Summary: I have been the proud owner of a D-03 for a long long time and it has not let me down. For a much lower price you can get a guitar that sounds as good or in some cases better than 2000 dollar acoustics. I'll spare the details about the actual guitar ... read more

Summary: I have owned my larrivee D02 guitar for about 8 years. A couple of years ago I noticed the top beginning to cave in below the pick guard, where the neck connects to the body. I had my dealer send the guitar in to larrivee. They had the guitar for ... read more

Pros: Understated satin finish, precise tuners, rock-solid construction, glorious sound, easy playability, quality woods
Cons: Little name recognition (if it matters to you) except to knowledgeable guitarists

Summary: For my 50th birthday, I was given $1500 to buy a decent acoustic guitar to replace my Hohner of 25 years. I spent over 2 hrs in a music store playing Martins, Taylors, Gibsons & Guilds. I couldn't decide until the salesman suggested a Larrivee D03R. ... read more

Pros: TONE - equivalent (possibly better) than $2000+ Martin HD-28
Cons: very plain looking -- all business, no fluff

Summary: Tone. Fantastic. Has bite similar to a Taylor, but with rich, cohesive, complimentary overtones. Bass is tight and low. Not as woody sounding as Martins. Midrange is where it shines above the competition -- sounds are clear, coherent where others ... read more
