When I saw this drive for sale for $105 I snapped one up. Now it's nearly a year later and they're selling for $80+ refurbished. No wonder.
It's a gem.
At only 4X max write it's not fast, but nobody seems to get much over 8x anyway. But if you need speed get another burner.
This thing is versatile, it even does DVD-RAM. It also reads some disks that some new 16X DVD-ROMs can't. I've kept mine busy and had no trouble with it.
Software? You mean it came with software?? I forget. Just updated my existing CD-DVD programs to "see" the drive. I run a computer service so I play with this stuff all the time. Almost all the newer software recognizes it no prob.

I recently purchased the LG GSA-4040 Multi-format DVD burner after doing my research. It also didn't hurt that TechTV rated this as one of the top ten gifts for the 03 Christmas season. I had the LG drive installed in less than ten minutes. The only con about the drive is the software package included, but hey I paid for the drive not the software. I primarily use the LG drive for archiving my DVD's using DVD X Copy Xpress. It will burn a movie in about 15 minutes. Overall a good drive. Also it does burn both DVD+R and DVD-R in about the same speed.
