I got the I5100 with a P-4, 256 RAM, 30 GB HD, 15in, and...the famous ATI Radeon 7500 video card...
Well, Dell DOES NOT know how to get the Video Card to work with Windows 2000. Not only did their engineers show their incompetencies - the...

Pros: Affordable, can be customized, decent battery life, built in wireless features Cons: Moody, plastic scratches easily, LCD feels flimsy, VERY POOR customer service
My company bought me a Dell laptop when my old Sony laptop became obsolete. The first thing I noticed when I began transferring the data from the old laptop to the new was how bright the display of the Dell is! (It could have been because the laptop is ...

Pros: Good customer service for repairs Cons: Heavy, manufacturer defects, keyboard placement
I purchased my Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop about 4 months ago. I upgraded to a 512 processor, Intel Pentium III, CD-RW/DVD combo drive, plug in A drive, 128 memory stick and a wireless mouse. For the most part, things have worked out o.k., until I ...

Pros: Excellent laptop. Easy to use and ready to go right out of the box. Cons: A little heavy. No floppy but I got a USB external floppy for $31.00.
I received my Dell 5100 a few days ago and even though I waited 2 weeks for it, it was well worth the wait. I was lucky to order mine when they were offering a lot of extras which unfortunately expired on 30 April. I opted for the 14.1 screen, Pentiun 4...

Pros: Level of customization. Inexpensive price. Cons: Shoddy construction. Poor design. Hefty weight.
Dell offers a great variety of customization options. You start with a bare bones system and add the components you want. Unfortunately, the finished product lacks in quality and design. The different parts come from all over the globe and quality ...

Pros: Excellent quality, great price Cons: It's slightly chubby compared to the 'light' laptops, but not a burden.
I really like Dell. They are a lot cheaper than most electronics stores. It arrived a week early. Everything worked great and still does. I was worried about the video card not being enough since I play games, (Warcraft,Diablo,Counter Strike etc) but it ...

Pros: acceptable features for the price. Cons: 8 pounds is light for a bowling ball but too heavy for a laptop.
The laptop looks great on paper. You get many great features for a bit over a grand. This is the price if you choose the bottom of the line support package of 1 year mail in support. IMPORTANT NOTE: DELL WILL NOT LET YOU RETURN YOUR LAPTOP AFTER 30 ...

Pros: Powerful CPU, fast machine, has slot for built in wi-fi card Cons: Fautly cooling system design
This is a powerful computer, shunned by a lot of people because of its reputation for overheating. But you can profit on other people's fear of this computer. I've had this computer for three years and have learned all the tricks. O.K., let's ...

Great little notebook
by orca99usa ,Jun 27 '04
Pros: A great performer, rugged and dependable. Get the package specials for the best value. Cons: Can get pricey very quickly if you check too many boxes on the options list.
We recently decided to replace our second computer, a desktop, with one that offered us more portability and the ability to communicate while traveling. After a lot of shopping and so many numbers and specs our heads were spinning, we finally decided on the Dell Inspiron 5100. With the 20th anniversary special, it came loaded up - 40GB hard drive, 512MB of RAM, Microsoft Office Suite, Pentium 4, CD burner with DVD playback and a lot more. The people at the order center were very friendly and helpful, and financing (with 7.9 percent interest instead of the 18-21 percent that most companies offer you) was a snap to get approved. Delivery was exactly on time. The machine has been a flawless performer, in many respects outperforming my desktop, a Compaq Presario 6000. The display is sharp with brilliant color. Setting up the wireless network card (I bought this separately, to get the same brand as my router) took about two minutes, and I was online.
This machine gets a bit pricey if you add too many options. Watch for the special packages - they are a much better deal.

Great First Laptop!
by beaniemom01 ,Oct 14 '04
Pros: Good price, expandability, quality Cons: Weight, lifespan?
Purchased as a Christmas gift for my 11 year old daughter. The whole family enjoys surfing from the comforts of the sofa via wireless internet. Overall performance is great, runs very smooth with games and while surfing. However, after only 9 months of use smoke came out the back and that was the end of that laptop. Dell sent out a replacement, no questions asked! Excellent service! Would recommend to all and will buy my next laptop from them myself. Excellent promotions! We also received a printer and digital camera.
