New G4 Powerbood Still Too Fragile, Support Bad

by jtcoburn , Jan 28 '06
Pros: Nice looking, good for non-serious computer users and Apple fans.
Cons: FRAGILE, POOR SUPPORT, PUTS FORM WAY AHEAD OF FUNCTION.
I recently purchased a new G4 Powerbook. It is the 15" model with the 1.6 GHz processor. It is pre-Intel CPU but I only bought it a month or so ago. This is my first Apple and I was trying to change over due to the many problems I have had over the years ...

LOVE the G4 Titanium!!!!!!
by claudiaco ,Nov 11 '03
Pros: portable, reliable, nice size screen for a laptop, lightweight, stylish/sleek design
Cons: no internal CD-RW (only CD-R/DVD), gets very hot on bottom (recommend RoadTools cool-pad)
I've had my Titanium Powerbook for 2 years now, have used it almost every day, all day long and have not had any trouble...except for the resistance to diving into OSX head-first. It's perfect for me, with a G3 beige mini-tower which I have added additional harddrive space, then networked the two computers together. This first release of the Titanium has some of the "older" connecting ports, which allows me to use the 21" monitor I've traditionally used with my G3 to enable 2 screen viewing while working on websites and graphics. I also have a 10GB iPod to supplement the storage space on the Titanium when I am traveling. When increasing the RAM higher or to it's maximum capabilities, memory-hog programs such as Photoshop and Dreamweaver can be run simultaniously and without hang-up/crashing issues. You can also watch DVD movies without any problems as well.

I would highly recommend this computer for anyone who needs portability, compatibility (with older Macs as well as with PCs) and easy to manipulate preferences/control panels especially if you are familiar with the older OS 8.5 - 9.2.2
