Good thin Laptop
by max_socal ,Mar 16 '05
Pros: Fairly light, thin, track pad,CD Burner/DVD Combo, solid feel Cons: Battery power
I bought this in Jan of 2002 for school. Costco had a pretty good selection of laptops and this HP stood out with no contest. It was the thinnest one there, and the 512 Megs of RAM was hard to find then. This has a very solid feel to it. Other brands seem to feel cheap to them. I can pick this up by the corner and swing it around. Feels fine. This is light enough to carry around, and even held up over a few years in a backpack. One of the best features is the track pad. Press your finger on it, and your finger doesnt sink into the computer. Just a firm surface. It is pretty accurate and reliable. The CD burner/DVD combo is nice. Just dont plan on watching a DVD on the plane. The battery life on this isnt great. But, I would suggest this if your looking for a used laptop. No built-in wireless, but a PCMCIA wireless card is cheap.

This is a great computer, very fast. However when I first purchased it it froze often, but after upgrading the BIOS and reseting the RAM that problem was fixed. This machine performs well; from games, to Microsoft applications and photo shop. And for the price this computer is well worth it! Only problem that I myself have is the 20 gig hard drive, even though it isn't that small I would have prefered a larger one.

This note book has a...
by unhappy_hp_owner_dt3000 ,Feb 19 '03
This note book has a lockup issue that Hp seems to deny. Oh they have supposedly made a fix for the lockup issue but it still locks up. I have had it in for service plus have run several recoveries and have done every imaginable test fix etc. possible, most several times with Hp support. Considering all the other owners who have the same problem(just type in xf145 on any search page to see what I mean), Hp seems to have made some design flaws that they would rather deny exist. So I do not think I would purchase another Hp product.
