Pros: solid build quality, excellent screen and keyboard, perfect out of the box Cons: heavy, so-so battery life, features only "average" for the price
With increasing problems on my desktop computer, and space becoming a premium, I decided it was time to replace my computer with a laptop.
Not being a computer expert, by any means, I took my usual approach and did A LOT of research, reading...
Pros: Easy to use, large screen, DVD Player and CD Burner Cons: Heavy, no serial port.
I bought this laptop for $900 just before Christmas of 2002. My minimum criteria for considering a laptop were: 14" screen, 1.5GHz speed, 256 MB RAM, 30GB Hard drive, CD-RW and DVD. This laptop has a 15" screen, runs at 1.8 GHz, and meets the other mini ...
Pros: Its a tank! Able to take some abuse. Top notch support from Toshiba. Cons: The front panel CD controls are in a terrible place and can NOT be disabled.
I've always owned IBM notebooks and have always held them in the highest regard. I opted for this To ...
Pros: Large screen, nice layout, solidly constructed Cons: The monitor hurts my eyes, lack of USB 2.0
I'm not really sure what to say, except that I am totally pleased with this laptop. Its 17" screen is a wonderful size (at least, compared to my previous laptop's 12" screen) and it's bright and clear, its 30 GB HD is sufficient (though it will ...
Pros: It's cheap. Cons: Welcome to 1998, a truly outdated computer.
This computer is a true waste of money, which might explain why Best Buy introduced it at Christmas at cut-rate deals just to get all those cheap people in so they could be the lucky one to have an outdated piece of crap. Hmmm let's see 'How does this...
Pros: great screen, fast, and it was cheap circuit city $799 Cons: no internal usb2
Ditto to everything stated in the Toyota Corolla review. This unit also has a "rca phono plug" video output. This is great for connecting to your tv. Many other laptops have no video output and the ones that do have s-video plug. I have used this for 5 years with no issues. I have considered updating but the new units I have seen don't seem to offer enough to justify the price tag. I have made several updates....internal dvd/rw+-cd/rw, wireless lan card, usb2, 512 mb ram and external 250 gb hd.
Toshiba Satellite 1416-S173 by slyone41 ,Jan 11 '06
Pros: Looks good. Cons: Very heavy to lift and carry. Battery does not last long after charged.
Nice looking laptop but very heavy to carry and lift. I have had to turn it in twice for the CD-Rom drive. The battery only last a few hours.
There are thinner lightweight notebooks that are cheaper and last longer. This notebook was not worth the price I paid for it in Best Buy in Oct 2002. I paid $1599 after a rebate.
Pros: Reliability of toshiba, cd burner. Cons: Celeron system, batery the worst
Its not bad I bought it about five years ago and still runing I gave this computer to my wife who uses only to see our litle daughter (via skype) when she is out of town and to navigate in internet. ( I bought a Satellite S305 5077) a couple of months ago and I´m very pleasant with this new one.
This 1415S173 right now is a very old model but it gave me a lots of fun during me usage.
Pros: I like the easy-use CD controls for Playback. Well-built Cons: The equipped Celeron 1.80GHz processor is bad. Shorter than said Battery-life.
I'm only 15 years old, when I bought this PC I was like 11, and I can't believe how much this PC has last, I'm not saying I mistreat it, but, before this one I had a like four-five years old PC, a Toshiba too, but the monitor was like all loose, and the screen was a little broken... But as soon as I bought this one, I'm amazed, with all this years and it's still working perfect.
It's well built, cause with all this years and everything it's fixed.
I bought it, cause the old PC wasn't good enough, it was too slow and had too little hard drive, and I had a lot of games, so when we went to U.S.A we entered to the store and we saw this PC, we seized the opportunity and bought it.
Now I'm selling this PC, but I'll miss her cause she has been a good girl, and it's not just cause I'm selling it, but I truly recommend it to you. I have nothing to hate about this PC, the only bad thing is the Celeron processor, I truly don't recommend it...
My first laptop was a Toshiba 2775XDVD. I used it for over 2 years and didn't have any problems with it at all. So far this Toshiba is living up to it’s predecessor.

I've been using this machine for over 2 weeks now, and the only problems I can see are the wieght of the machine, and a problem configuring a lynksys wireless card, had to purchase a Cisco to solve the problem.

This is my third laptop, my second Toshiba. The quality for price is unbeatable. Overall it's a fantastic notebook. A solid computer. Far more features than other computers at the same price. I don't really like the touch-pad mouse, but they almost all have them now. (The old Toshiba mouse button was better, imho.) The mouse was also a little slow to react, but some of the mouse performance can be corrected by altering the mouse settings. I added an extra 256 MB RAM chip to speed it up a bit. The big screen is excellent. Controls are great. Bundled software is pretty good, but they could have come up with a better DVD player/CD ROM burner program. Overall I love this notebook, and will look for Toshiba again in the future.

I love this machine. I purchased two different HP's before this one and had to return both within a week due to video problems on one and nonfunctioning modem on the other. This Toshiba works great. It gives a lot of bang for the buck. Comes with a 15" screen, 256 MB DDR memory standard, DVD/CDRW standard, "even has a floppy drive!" nice display, 3 USB ports, a wheel to control sound so you don't have to use the display controls all the time, sound is respectable. Doesn't get really hot like the HPs either. This laptop is nice and sturdy (which means it is a little heavy for someone who would have to lug it around a lot.) I recommend this machine for anyone looking for a nice general portable.
