Pros: ease of use, portable, convenient, supports both 802.11b/g formats Cons: price, tough to use with non-Linksys equipment
**I accidently put my original review on the wrong product, so if you're seeing this again, that explains why.** I never really wanted to switch to wireless internet access in the house. I always felt that doing that would add a needless bottleneck in ...

Pros: It can be returned. Cons: Poor design, worse customer support.
Wow! What can I say about this product? History: Ive been using Linksys products since 1998, and have had nothing but great experiences. Ive referred many folks to spend the extra money on a Linksys, as it was the Cadallic of home ...

Pros: None. The product is worthless. Cons: On a secure network, it's junk. You won't be able to even get it working.
I'm a long time fan of Linksys wireless equipment and my home network consists solely of Linksys products. I have always been pleased with the quality and security of the Linksys products. When I purchased the Linksys WGA54G Wireless Game Adapter, I ...

Beautiful thing
by kcranmer ,Dec 13 '03
Pros: Plug and Play. Zero configuration. Small form factor. Nice design. Cons: None
Hooked this right up to the Xbox right out of the box. Zero configuration. Playing from Hawaii with friends back in Jersey. Noticed dropped packets with internet service (roadrunner). This piece of hardware is not at all responsible. Originally had Xbox hooked directly up to the Toshiba PCX2600 modem which may be the culprit. Have the PCX2200 back home in Jersey and it works like a dream. Anyway, this adapter works like it is supposed to!

Intermittent and unpredictable
by cw_iiic_dt3000 ,May 11 '08
Pros: Good concept Cons: Unreliable connection
I've had wireless working flawlessly from a Linksys router to a Buffalo network access point for a couple years. Bought the WGA to support an isolated computer and I find it terribly frustrating. I can't link signal level or time of execution to success. It appears to work better shortly after it's been turned on. I'm using encryption. Earlier poster said tech support told him there were "problems" with encryption. Maybe? In any case, I'm not happy!

WARNING! Steer Clear.
by littlerock03 ,May 01 '05
Pros: Returnable! Cons: Terrible customer support, lack of knowledge about product.
As with other reviews concerning this product, I am too a fan of the Linksys products. However this unit does not work properly.
First of all, let me tell you the setup. I'm running the WRT54GS Linksys router with speedbooster, v3.37.6 firmware. WEP enabled, 128bit key with MAC Filtering.
The quick start cd based config software is worthless. After logging into web based configuration menu I was able to apply different settings to get it to work. This of course was after an hours worth of time talking to India (Tech Support), and three hours of me and a buddy trying everything we could.
India directed me to remove WEP and MAC filtering from my router in order for the gaming adapter to function properly. Now this is foolish, why buy a piece of equipment that is advertised to be secure only to disable security and leave your home network open to the world.
Save your money and look elsewhere; or as the other reviews have said purchase another WRT54g and set it up as a client.
As for me, it's going back tomorrow!

Not recommended.

Pros: Actually (finally) works after much coercion. Cons: HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Laggy gaming
Hard to set up if you enable any semblance of security.
I bought the WGA54G for convenience and "lag-free gaming."
I'm pretty damn slick when it comes to networking, and electronics in general. It took me no less than an hour to get this device to "see" my WLAN. Requires a firmware flash before it can be configured directly by the Xbox.
The above reviewer's comment about the unit constantly hissing is true. It's LOUD. It sounds like a leaky truck tire. I can barely sleep with it in the same room with it.
The overall interaction between xbox and adapter is shoddy, and feels hacked-together at best.
Oh, and as for the "lag-free" statement right on the front of the box, this is an outright blatant non-truth. My pings are consistently much higher with the WGA54G than with wired ethernet.
I purchased my WGA54G for convenience of being able to take my portable tv anywhere in the house, but with this much trouble and added latency, it isn't worth it.
Now if I only hadn't lost my receipt, I would take it back to the store for a refund.

Linksys Tech support
by rammgod ,Sep 25 '05
Pros: not much of any that can come to my mind Cons: TOTALLY lacking and obverse
Where: from India/Pakistan
Expertise: obviously reading from a poor manual and only tier 1 exists..they get hostile when you ask for a tier 2 or higher opinion.
Communication: How can it be worse than poor: Try Linksys tech support and you will experience the answer to that
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE - I am a 25 year sr.systems engr that COULD NOT believe the Sh**ty response I got from these people much less the "if it works when its connected to you router (yes..a hardwire cat 5 RJ45 connection) then this Wireless adapter HAS to be working correctly...NOT.
Again, cisco would do itself a favor and drop the 3world support that this gives and provide a more intelligent, communicative response for the people that invest (RE: BUY) their products.
please feel free to respond to my addy of : rammgoda@hotmail.com for the unbelievable experience that these jerks provide (or dont).
