by jaymend Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Sep 07 '04
Pros: Driver free, so it works on any platform (PC/XBOX/Playstation) and with any OS (XP/Linux/Mac)
Cons: Firmware upgrade software is still Windows based
Wireless Simplified First of all, let me start by mentioning that I am using a 2 year old Linksys BEFW11S4 version 2, 802.11b wireless router. This is running the latest 1.45.10 firmware revision which was released April 15, 2004 to fix newly ...

perfect for strangely wired houses
by slathering ,Jan 05 '05
Pros: no drivers!
Cons: needs to be reset periodically.
My apartment has an ethernet drop in the kitchen, but not in the bedroom for some reason. The WET11 provided a simple solution, put a wireless router/access point in the kitchen and put a bridge in the bedroom where I can hook up the computers and printers and such. Since we have multiple operating systems, including Windows, Linux, MacOS and FreeBSD, this was a great solution. I just plugged a normal ethernet switch into it and it's just as if I have a normal wired drop in the bedroom.

My only complaints are that the firmware upgrade requires windows. Also, every few months the bridge stops working and needs to be power cycled. This happens so infrequently that it's not a major problem.
