Pros: cheap(er), easy setup, good wifi range, it does work Cons: HORRIBLE picture quality, activity lights flash when camera is viewed, no FTP, no WPA
Grabbed one of these to monitor some expensive equipment in a semi-public place. Figured for $120 or so it'd be a deal. The camera itself is a swiveling camera/lens assembly on a back panel. The lens (if you'd call it that) isn't much, maybe 3mm ...
Pros: Easy to configure. Remote access works like charm. Good wireless throughput. Good nanny cam. Cons: Image quality okay. Bad contrast. Sololink. No sound. Activity lights in front.
Summary: If you need an indoor camera to observe conditions during daylight hours with no direct sunlight or sharp/dark shadows, this is probably your camera. Wireless connection setup was mostly painless and both wireless/wired throughput sufficient ...
Pros: -WiFi enabled
-Can use WEP
-Ethernet Enabled
-Positionable Camera Cons: -Daytime
-Nighttime
-High light vs. Low light
-E-mail clips too short
I received the WVC11B as a used gift. Although the disc was missing for the software installation the Linksys tech support was very helpful and pointed me right to place on their FTP server where I could download the entire contents of the CD. Once I ...
Pros: none, really. Cons: User interface glitches, bad hotline availability, bad picture, slows down 802.11g network, DDNS service spotty.
I bought one Internet video camera since the packaging and the brand Linksys promised a somewhat finished product. However, even in the setup process I had to call the hotline support twice, just because of little user interface glitches. E.g. the field ...
It doesn't work - stay away - support is ugly by tim90210 ,Jan 13 '05
Pros: None Cons: does not work, support is terrible, bad user interface
I bought the with the hope of viewing my home while away on trips. I setup the config for POP email but it just doesn't work. I have been on the chat room for 90 minutes with Linksys (Dumlao R) and the response is about every 10 minutes with dumb questions. I'm now 100 minutes into the chat and I'm getting now were. I consider my self technical and I have checked all the configs and I feel the product just does not work.
Your support is so poor I am now starting to write up my experience at Epinions.com (search for heading - It doesn't work - stay away - support is ugly)
Pros: Easy to install
Great value Cons: Low light performance poor
use over www requires configuration of router
I'm here to say that this linksys IP am is a great little piece of engineering. You normally only see complaints about gear because most satisfied users don't write reviews. I had this unit up and working in less than five minutes out of the box. The picture is pretty darn good at the best setting. Low light performance isn't great. Normal light filtering in the windows results in a perfect picture. It isn't set up for outside monitoring as the unit is not weather-proof. You could mount it in a weather-proof enclosure outside and add a cheap neutral density filter from the cam store in front of the lens. If you are using this to watch grandma or the kids, it is just right. At the current low price, there is nothing that can compare. The new linksys 802.11G version makes a 640 pixel picture, but if you use it over the net, you would probably use it at 320 anyway. What a cool device- at a great price!
Pros: Great for the money, but I think it is out of production. Cons: No sound.
I got this camera for monitoring a baby. It was < $50 used from Amazon marketplace. It is quite good with good light, and with dim light it is acceptable. It has only b-wireless but on 320x240, that is more than enough. It was simple to setup for home network - nothing to say there, just connect it to the wired network first, then to wireless.
Next option currently costs 2-3 times more.
Yes, it is 1990-es technology, but it serves the basic purpose.
Pros: It doesn't spew smoke or flame Cons: Requires Active-X to view video - IE only - setup is Windows only
In looking for a stand-alone video camera I thought I'd try Linksys. I've had good luck with Linksys products in the past, though the quality of their consumer products seems to have deteriorated since they were bought by Cisco.
The camera seems to be well constructed, and the packing was good. Unfortunately, setup is Microsoft Windows only. If you've got anything else (Linux, Mac, Sun) you'll have to get a PC to get it set up. Even worse, viewing the pictures from the camera requires Active-X. The first thing the camera wants to do is download an Active-X control to your browser, and if you're running anything other than Internet Explorer you'll not be having a life enriching experience at this point.
Pros: Says "Linksys" on it Cons: No WPA, poor quality image
I should have checked to see if this device supported WPA -- it does not.
I also note that the image quality is quite poor!
This camera really requires a lot of light to produce acceptable images.
I need to rethink my relationship with Linksys!
Pros: Simple set up. Adequate wireless image. Cons: No daylight allowed. On line help very bad.
The set up was fairly straight forward. Picture ok not great. The wireless part worked OK. BUT! When pointed outside - at flowers, bird feeder, anything -- even in the shade-- the image washed out so bad nothing could be seen. If the image setting was anything but "automatic", either set higher or lower the image never painted.
Online Chat help was appalling -- must have been dealing with 5 of us at once for the time it took to answer simple questions (e.g. Are you there?) Help said it was not an outdoor camera. I said the camera was indoors pointing outdoors. He said: no daylight. I asked where that was mentioned in the ads, or manual. It took so long for an answer I hung up.
So, my suggestion: try something else, maybe D-Link, though I have no experience with those products yet
