Piece of crap
by bbrune123 ,Oct 02 '07
Pros: Does route between wireless and wired boxes well (at times)
Supports WPA. Cons: Absolutly unreliable.
This is the worst router I've owned.
Right out of the box, it didnt' work, I had to phone tech support, which is very time consuming, and resulted in a new firmware upgrade, which got it working. Good news.
However, now it needs to be power cycled about every week or it just stops working. Lights look good but nobody is home.
Can't ping it, cant do anything but reboot it. I have wireless and wired boxes that need to talk to each other. Maybe this is what causes it to go brain dead. Also I noticed that after it's up for a while, it gets real slow to respond to it's admin web page, and if you want to see the DHCP table, then it takes a long time. After a reboot, it responds fine.

Difficult to set up
by a726452004 ,Aug 03 '05
Pros: none Cons: setup very difficult, made humming noise.
I bought this router at Staples. The setup was very difficult and I had to call the 1-800 to get this thing communicating with my ISP (COX). After speaking to COX, I realized that Linksys customers seem to call the ISP helpline often and the COX technician already knew the 1-800 number from Linksys, which I felt was not a good sign.
The speed and range is decent, but it made a humming noise and I returned it. Staples refunded the money and I went to buy a Netgear WGT624, which was very easy to set up and works great.

Okay, so far
by sammysushi ,Aug 02 '05
Pros: speed Cons: poor tech docs; installation can be dicey
I bought a Linksys w/ trepidation . . . my previous b's performance had degraded over time and w/o decent technical docs, you have to rely on Linksys tech support to troubleshoot issues. My initial router install and my 4 adapter installs ALL required calls to Tech Support.
I had tried the Belkin G 54 mpbs and LOVED the accompanying technical documentation, the setup was a breeze, the setup user interface well designed, and the built in firewall a definite + (noticed that my pop up blocker seemed to work so much better w/ the Belkin in place). However, my connection speed was waaaaayyyyyy toooooo sloooooooow.
Tech Support at Belkin sent the wrong firmware update; I got no reponse to an email saying it had failed and even completed 2 surveys saying problem was not resolved. So, I took the Belkin back and bought the Linksys. After talking w/ a geek at Circuit City, I'm wondering if Belkin has an issue w/ their ethernet cables.
The initial Linksys install looked like it was gonna hose, but powering down everything worked. My hardwire and wired clients are zipping along.
