  • Martin D-35

Pros: Quality, reputation, easy to play, hard shell case included
Cons: High price, sound a little bassy for my taste

Summary: The CF Martin Company, of Nazareth PA, is known for making some of the finest acoustic guitars available. Period. One of the styles that they popularized was called the Dreadnought, or D body. The Dreadnought style changes a typical curvy guitar ... read more

  • My 14th guitar--and the best of them all

Pros: Everything!  Looks, sound, feel, and Martin quality.
    Cons: Absolutely nothing.

Summary: I've owned a Silvertone (my first, purchased from Sears 49 years ago), 3 Taylors, a Gibson, a Yamaha, an Ovation, and now seven Martins, and this D-35 is easily the best guitar I've ever played, let alone owned.  The only guitar I've ever played ... read more

    Apr 2, 2008 by

Pros: Solid contruction, allot of bass but doesn't overwhelm the treble notes. 3piece back is beatiful.
Cons: It's a D-35, if God were a Luthier, he made this guitar.

Summary: I initially purchased a DC-16RGTE which is a Rosewood Back and Sides, Modified low oval neck with cutaway and Fishman 3 band EQ. I still have it. The guitar is great but I play in church where I can't always plug in and I can't hear myself without a mic. ... read more

Pros: Beautiful angelic tones. Pretty like a beautiful blond that doesn't need makeup.
    Cons: None.

Summary: I have been shopping for a new dreadnought for quite a while. I read all of the re=views, settled on a few to check out then went and tried them all: Gibson j45, Taylors (various), and Martin (D-16,18,28,35 & 42). What I found most surprising was the ... read more

  • A great Martin Standard

    Jul 31, 2006 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Flawless workmanship, rich Martin tone, versatile and easy to play. An outstanding value.
Cons: String spacing might not match preferences for dedicated fingerstyle players; doesn't have the "vintage" vibe.

Summary: The D-35 is a standard series Martin as compared the vintage series. The top bracing (1/4") is lighter than the standard D-28 (5/16"). The tuners are enclosed with large knobs, and the Martin logo on the headstock is foil. The newer D-35 models come ... read more

  • Wonderfully bold guitar will keep you playing for hours!

    Jul 1, 2005 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Legendary Martin sound, too many others to list
    Cons: What????

Summary: I bought my D-35 about six weeks ago from a great (and the only) music shop in my home town of Bryn Mawr PA, just an hour away from the Martin Factory. Anyone who has ever been on the Martin factory tour knows the attention and love that goes into these ... read more

Pros: Big sound, Perfect for strumming and singing. An investment with great returns.
    Cons: None

Summary: A solid piece of American hand crafted, simple beauty from Pennsylvania. I have been a Guild player for over 25 years. I have always loved Guild's tone and quality. That has been removed by Fender. So when I went looking for an acoustic to replace my ... read more

Pros: Great Martin sound, quality of assembly and finish, cache'of owning a big Martin!
Cons: Hard to amplify. Bass tones win over highs. Scale is not perfect.

Summary: Daddy bought his first "grown-up" guitar. Played cheap crap junk for years to learn, finally mustered up enough courage to blow a wad of cash on a real guitar. Spent another wad to put in a LR Baggs iBeam Active. Still trying to get the right sound out ... read more

  • The Martin D-35: A high-quality tank of a rosewood dreadnought acoustic guitar

Nov 1, 2002 by Horswispr is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Musical Instruments
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: that big Martin rosewood dreadnought sound; built like a tank
Cons: bass notes can overwhelm treble notes on some D-35s

Summary: The Martin D-35 dreadnought guitar came into being in 1965. It was born as a result of a shortage of Brazilian rosewood, the three-piece back allowing Martin to use smaller pieces in the manufacture of the guitar. Basically, the D-35 was supposed to be ... read more

    Pros: Rolls Royce of Guitars
Cons: If I ever have to sell it!

Summary: My Martin D-35, I remember borrowing $550.00 back in 1967 or 1968 from my grandmother to get this guitar I really liked? This guitar has been my lady over the years. The sound was impeccable when I first bought it. It has only gotten ... read more

  • This guitar is not a purchase, it's an investment.

    Pros: I love my Martin!
    Cons: You're kidding.

Summary: Let me preface this review with the fact that I am an amateur musician in the true meaning of the word. There is no pretense here. So, if you are looking for a highly technical evaluation bail out now. I am a self-taught musician, I play by ear. My ... read more

    Pros: Tone quality and toughness
    Cons: Price

Summary: I have owned a total of 12 acoustic guitars, and by far, my D-35 has been the BEST! The finest feature is the unequaled quality of sound that is consistantly produced. It's unique tone has been touted by every professional that I have ever spoken to. ... read more

    Pros: Tone, playability, versatility
    Cons: None

Summary: Of our three guitars, this is the one I've played and enjoyed the most since we bought it in 1968 -- more than either the 12-string or the classic. It's always had smooth, easy action and a clean, far-carrying sound, very fluid in melodies, very ... read more

Summary: I have owned 3 excellent acoustic guitars -- 3 Martins including the D-28 Marquis and a 1 Taylor 710CE and I have a very critical ear for sound. The Martin D-35 is by far the best sounding guitar I have ever played. Awesome full range of sound with ... read more

Pros: Absolutely and outstanding acoustic Guitar.
    Cons: NONE.

Summary: I have been playing guitar for over 35 years and I have played a lot of different solid body electrics and acoustic guitars and I can honestly say that nothing I have every played or owned has ever come close to a Martin D-35.  A lot of acoustical ... read more

    Pros: Sound is incomparable
    Cons: none

Summary: I've been playing since 1961. I've been through a lot of guitars - most recently a high end Taylor. During the 1970's all I had was my 1970 D-35. I played it hard but since 1981 it has languished unplayed. It needed a neck reset and was hard to play. I ... read more

Pros: Great sound! No fret buzz, beautiful workmanship. The Real Thing.
Cons: Factory setup too high (for my taste), but easily tweaked as desired.

Summary: After playing a Guild D-35NT for 25 years and breaking it in nicely, my teenage son slowly took it over and I bought a new Martin D-35 after looking at other Guilds, Taylors, Tacomas and Gibsons (I've also got a 1968 L5 CES, so I was leaning that way). ... read more
