Pros: Quick easy setup/install, small, light, thin , easy movie play as well. Cons: Is this a sign of more things to come. Things might be breaking now.
As like most people here, the price was extremely reasonable $39 at Target on sale. We got the desk just about a year ago, just after Christmas (Jan 2006). It has run pretty well, it is sometimes noisy (we attributed it to some DVD's). The buttons as ...

Pros: Skinny, silver, inexpensive Cons: Button on remote is small and hard to read.
"When I was a kid, we didnt have DVD players." I said to my 12-year-old when we brought this home. "How did you get by?" he asked. "Well we played outside, we were kids. It wasn't like it is these days. Then when DVD players did come out they ...

Pros: Design, Picture quality, quiet, PRICE Cons: remote control set up, automatic subtitles
My other cheap Chinese DVD player broke in my room and I needed a quick and cheap replacement. I figured I would give this a try. Experience in using product: I use it for the most basic function...DVDs. I believe that this is what this item is ...

Sliding tray refused to open a few months after purchase
by tfr888 ,Oct 24 '08
Pros: Price. MP3 decoder. Dolby digital Progressive scan Component video out jack S-video jack Cons: A P.O.S. whose features mean nothing if it won't open up and load a DVD.
This is a cheaply made DVD player. The sliding tray stopped responding to the open/close button a few months after we bought it.

Don't buy Memorex DVD players
by rockysullivan ,Dec 13 '07
Pros: Cheap price Cons: Piece of junk
My Memorex DVD player was a little over a year old and hardly used. It worked on the few time I used it. Then one day it just kept spinning the DVD and never loaded it. Memorex makes junk.

DVD player expired right after warranty
by fiddlers_dad ,Dec 02 '07
Pros: None. Cons: Short lifespan = high cost per use.
Similar problems as experienced by other reviewers.
Purchased this unit to use with our secondary TV. As a result, it was used only occasionally.
While it worked, it worked fine. Then one day it just stopped operating. Loaded in a DVD and the thing froze up: Door wouldn't open, wouldn't power up or down, no display, wouldn't respond to remote or manual controls, wouldn't re-set. The standby light would come on, though, so I know it had power.
I finally had to take it apart to retrieve my DVD.
For what it's worth, we never had a problem with the mysterious subtitles, shifting colors or quirky audio described by other reviewers.
Useful mnemonic device for the next time you consider buying a Memorex product: MEMOR-EX -- check your MEMORy and recall why you're an EX-customer. Never again.

Consider Another Product
by wade_tom ,Sep 23 '07
Pros: Trying to think of some.... Cons: Lemon
Within less than 6 months use, remote died (or dvd player does not recognize remote). Good luck finding a universal remote that will work with this product if needed. Lesson learned, you get what you pay for. Won't consider Memorex products in the future.

Short Lifespan
by dramouflage ,Feb 23 '07
Pros: price, appearance Cons: durability, lifespan
I watch approximately 5-6 films a week. At first, this machine did everything I needed it to - it played the film. There were some unusual glitches that other reviewers mentioned regarding subtitles, but that didn't disturb my enjoyment of the film. After six months, I had trouble opening the dvd door whether there was a dvd inside or not. The control panel would read "open" and I would wait a good 3-5 minutes but the door would not open. I tried the remote and the same problem happened. After turning the power on and off, I would occasionally get lucky and the door would open. I'm calling it quits on the machine at this point. Due to its low price, however, I wouldn't necessarily go out and buy a different model.

Absolute Junk
by orlandomike ,Feb 08 '07
Pros: none Cons: everything
I bought one of these over Christmas. Got it for $25 or so.
Good deal? Not when it wont even turn on out of the box. Push on, the light comes on 3 times then drops out.
I contacted Memorex and in the fine print they say you have to pay for shipping each way. $15 total. So I decided I would do that. Went through the process with faxing info over and never heard from them.
I decided rather than get into a piece of junk for $35 I would cut my loss and buy a real working DVD player.
They put a zillion of these out at Christmas and the quality control goes down the drain.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from these.

Doesn't work
by diannesdb ,Jan 29 '07
Pros: None. Cons: Everything, at this point.
Bought it. Brought it home. Took it out of the box. Hooked it up. Put a DVD from a rental place into it. Machine spit it out. Put another DVD into it. Machine spit it out. Tried to close the DVD tray without a DVD in it and it opened right back up again.
Turned it off, disconnected and reconnected everything (just in case I'd somehow made a mistake the first time), went through the same test cycle with the same results.
Checked the documentation enclosed to see if it shed any light on this behavior, no dice. Checked Memorex's website for relevant information, no dice.
Needless to say, this is going back to the store tomorrow.
--
Update 3 days later: Immediately after I had written the above, I fiddled around with the machine some more. For some reason going into the setup menu got the darn thing to work. Yay! I actually got to watch part of a DVD on it!
Unfortunately the next time I tried it, it reverted back to its previous opening/closing behavior. This time I couldn't even get back into the setup menu. So back to the store it went.

Don't buy this horrible product!
by tvtamer ,Aug 20 '06
Pros: It's light weight will make it easy to throw out. Cons: quality is dreadfull.
Ours failed after only 4 DVD's over 1 week. Now, no matter what DVD we try "Loading" goes on forever. During the first 4 DVD's that were played successfully it repeatedly lost it's track and stopped dead or stopped for some moments.
Product is useless, fails right out of the box.

You get what you pay for but $30 was too much
by nmaciole ,Feb 21 '06
Pros: cheap Cons: mine won't open after only 5 uses
I have not experienced any of the sound or picture quality issues others describe but that may be because I have only had the chance to use the player 5 times over the course of 2 months. The fifth DVD I watched is now stuck in the player. I contacted customer service via e-mail and was given asinine instructions requiring me to hold down the power button, unplug the unit, count to 15 and try to open it with the remote. Needless to say this didn't work and since I no longer have the receipt the 90-day limited warranty is useless to me, although I'm not sure that I would want to pay to have this shipped to Memorex given the other problems experienced by reviewers that were able to use the player more than 5 times.

Bought 2, both have severe color distortion
by thesatts ,Feb 10 '06
Pros: Price, size, functions, ease of use, image quality except for color. Cons: Unacceptable image coloring in 2 out of 2 machines.
Black and white works fine, but color is terrible! It cycles continuously from light to dark with odd tinting. For example, for 5 out of every 10 seconds the Caucasian people have neon orange lips and cafe au lait skin tones. The other 5 they are pasty white. We bought the special support for $5 and are going to exchange them if we can't return them.
