Pros: Plays everything, has tons of features, and is inexpensive. Cons: It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, doesn't make hamburgers.
The Self-Indulgent, Liberal Media Intro (aka "Skip this section if you want to get right to the review:): Im baaaack! Yes, its been four long years since I last wrote an Epinion. Just to show you how much things have changed in those ...

Pros: Excellent handling of video DVDs and low price. Cons: Inconvenient for playing audio. Cannot resume a video DVD at same place later.
After a coupon and a rebate at Sears, this unit cost me $24.00. I did not have Craigmoosh's setup problem: Mine came set for S-Video, so I was up and running a few minutes after hooking up. After my two-year old, overpriced DVD player died on me, my ...

Pros: Good price, features, plays fine. Cons: Powers off in pause.
Great DVD player. Craigmoose paid $10 too much however... Still, it's a nice player at anything under $30. I also bought this at Sears in January. It was on sale for $34.95, but they had a customer return in a glass case for $27.00. The ...

Poor picture quality
by scampbell4 ,Mar 15 '05
Pros: Sleek design and weight Cons: Horrible picture quality
I just bought this at Sears for $29 after $10 mail in rebate. I will be returning it tomorrow. I had an apex (which broke)but had great picture when connected with the audio/video jacks. The Memorex hooked up the same way has a picture quality that looks like a TV hooked up to a poor set of rabbit ear antennas. I'm watching Finding Nemo and the picture is horrible.

Horrible little DVD player
by eldad9 ,Mar 20 '06
Pros: It works as advertised, I guess... Cons: But it doesn't matter, since it refuses to stay on.
I don't care about any of the product's other features, since it has one fatal flaw: leave your movie paused too long, and the unit shuts off. There's nothing you can do about it. And you'll have to find your place manually when after you turn it on.
Does anybody actually try to use these things before they make it to store shelves?

Nice player, GREAT price
by tasty2 ,Jan 03 '06
Pros: Nice output connector selection, good remote, nice looks, progressive scan Cons: Sound output a little low
For the price of this unit (I paid $29.97 at Target) it is great. Component output, S-Video output, and many other nice features. We bought this unit for our bedroom TV, and it is working very well so far. I don't know yet how durable it is, but I have had NO issues with subtitles that other reviewers report. The sound output does seem a little low, but that's why your TV has volume control. It is a basic unit, but has all the bells and whistles you will need if you simply want DVD playing ability. For what you can find this unit for at many stores it is VERY competent.

Still great after 16 months of use.
by joewill ,Dec 30 '05
Pros: Overall quality Cons: Tiny buttons and print on remote
I have had this player for 16 months and have had no problems. The only complaint I've had was getting used to the small buttons and print on the remote. I have only played DVD Video and Photo CD discs. Both play with excellent picture quality; sound on the videos is excellent. All the features - zoom, skip, slow mo, dvd menu, etc. - still work without a hitch.

My first and last Memorex DVD player
by hyperconsumer ,Dec 05 '05
Pros: Cheap Cons: Freezes up, then you have to power it down
You truly get what you pay for.
I have had some brand new DVD's not even play on this DVD player. I've also had the thing freeze up continually when choosing something from a DVD menu. It won't respond at all after. You actually have to power it off and on again in order to get it to work.
A couple of times it wouldn't even open so I could at least get my DVD out of it.
On some DVD's it starts playing them with english subtitles by default.

PIECE OF CRAP
by wattsup ,Dec 31 '05
Pros: Compatibility Cons: Reliability
I bought this unit worked fine for about an hour then power and standby indicators both started frantically blinking and not one button would work on player. Can't even get my dvd out of it. Unplugged player to reset plugged back in same thing. Extremely dissapointed. This unit had some nice features it would read practically any thing. One issue I did have when it was briefly operating was that trying to zoom out black bars on charlie and the chocolate factory wide screen edition. The image would zoom but the bars remained the same size? Never saw that before maybe director used a hard matte.

Have the MVD2037
by bahesmama ,Mar 14 '05
Pros: Works perfectly, takes a lickin' (literally) from toddlers still works! Cons: None really, I guess the remote is not pretty and lit up.
Great. Works flawlessly. Has extras, SVideo even MP3 decoder and have had no problems in the year and a half that we've had it. Paid very little for it, I think about $59. Great buy for the kids to watch their DVD's. 2 year old son knows how to load it, so it's taken a bit of rough handling and still works perfectly. Recently teamed it with a bigger 27" JVC L'art flat screen tv and it looks great.
