  • When I get that feeling...

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Sep 13, 2006
Pros: Marvin Gaye's last album. "Sexual Healing". Sexy music.
Cons: Graphic references to sex and drugs may turn off some people.

Summary: It's a dreary Wednesday and I'm missing my husband, Bill, who is on yet another business related trip for the Army. It's been awhile since the last time I listened to Marvin Gaye's 1982 album, Midnight Love, but for some reason, I feel ... read more

  • Marvin Gaye's much-overrated swan song

    Pros: voice
    Cons: lyrics, synthesizers

Summary: Recorded in Belgium after his flight from the IRS, broken marriages, and a string of failed Motown recordings in the preceding years, and supposedly after finding Jesus and foreswearing cocaine, the album on the Columbia label, “Midnight ... read more

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    Sep 25, 2008
Pros: A revivified Marvin; enviable control of the album’s musicianship, “Sexual Healing.”
Cons: The album’s a bit dated; not as good as his earlier masterpieces.

Summary: In 1981, Marvin was in Belgium, finished—or at least it appeared to be. There he was, languishing in exile, his professional and personal life in utter shambles. He hadn’t had a hit in four years. His last two albums—the criminally ... read more

    Pros: The timeless, Sexual Healing
    Cons: None!

Summary: The late Marvin Gaye remains the most definitive male voices in Soul music. He truly was an utter genius and had such a creative and artistic flair and remains one of the key influences with todays new generation of wannabe Soul/R&B singers. In ... read more

  • "I'll Just Shed A Tear When You're Gone, And Wish You Were Here..."

Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
    May 18, 2005
Pros: "Sexual Healing"-easily the finest soul song of the Eighties.
Cons: A little too synthesized, some songs sound too similar to one another.

Summary: It's no secret that Marvin Gaye is one of the most revered soul singers of all time. The D.C. born son of a preacher man will go down in history with big names like Stevie, Smokey, Al and Otis as one of the sweetest voices to ever lay a note on tape. ... read more
