Great Camera
by belman ,Jan 09 '04
Pros: Great Zoom / easy menu Cons: None
Just received this camera and found it to be everything I was looking for at a great price.I researched digital camera's for some time searching for high quality / max. features / 3 mpix and feel this was a great buy. Have been very pleased with older 35mm Minolta camera. This Z1 has everything I was looking for and has been designed for easy access to menu's and optional settings.

Spectacular camera now under $400
by Bort ,Oct 19 '03
Pros: Spectacular features and quality; intuitive menus. Cons: Does not come with a carrying case or big memory chip.
I purchased this camera before leaving on vacation expecting to simply return it when I got back. There was no way I was going to spend $380 on a camera without doing a whole bunch of research. After spending a week with this camera my jaw is still gaping at the features and quality of this camera. The zoom is spectacular. The camera can shoot 10 pictures in a second and a half which is great for action shots like diving boards. The movie feature is excellent. The expandability is incredible and the menus are intuitive. Other reviews will give you techy details and more specifics. As a relative novice I will simply say that this camera is outstanding and my only complaint is that it did not come with a carrying case.

Owned for 6 months - ITS WORTH IT!
by discipline39 ,Jul 08 '04
Pros: Great pics, very fast AF, many features, long battery life, and great zoom. Cons: Plastic body, manual zoom difficult.
I have been using a Kodak 260 and it was time to upgrade as I wanted more control and higher pixel per picture. I was satisfied with Kodak so it came down to the value of the Kodak 4590 or the Minolta Z1. Both cameras got good reviews but had concerns with Minolta's durability. The deciding factor for me was the battery type. I have been stuck before and its nice to grab some AA batteries to get me through. After 6 months, the Minolta has proven time and again on durability and reliability. I even accidentally left it out in a rain storm (over 1.5 inches!) and it still works! That was just short of a miracle. The pics are great, very fast AF, many features, long battery life, and great zoom. I am very satisfied.

What's all the Excitement About??!
by tedsmom1 ,Mar 16 '04
Pros: Price Cons: Quality in images and construction.
I recently returned my Z1 after trying it out for 3 weeks. I guess I would say it took "okay" pictures, but that's not good enough. I take a lot of indoor photos (indoor basketball gymnasiums, home etc.). Most of the indoor photos were either too dark or had a yellowish cast to them. I really wanted to like this camera because of the decent price and 10x zoom. The flash is not very strong at all, and the construction was fragile. Especially the media door. I am sure it would be very easy to break off. I have been searching for a camera for about 6 months now. I am now waiting for the new Canon Power 10x zoom, and the new Olympus C765/C770 cameras. I think the quality is going to be much better.

Minolta Dimange Z1 Digital Camera
by wcarlsen ,Jul 02 '04
Pros: I ESPECIALLY LIKE THE TELEPHOTO LENS. IT IS A GREAT HELP IN TAKING PICTURES. Cons: WHEN I WANT TO ADD PHOTO FLASH ON A DIM DAY IT IS TOO BRIGHT.
I PURCHASED THIS CAMERA 6 MONTH'S AGO. IT IS A GREAT CAMERA
IT IS A LITTLE DIFFICULT TO LEARN HOW TO USE IT; BUT ONCE YOU DO IT IS A GREAT CAMERA. IN THE REVIEWS MOST PEOPLE WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE LENS CAP SLIPPING OFF THE LENS. MINE DID ALSO BUT I SCRAPED THE RUBBER GRABBERS IN THE LENS CAP WITH MY THUMB FINGERNAIL AND NOW IT GRABS THE GREAT. I CANT PULL THE LENS CAP OFF MY LENS. I HAVE TO USE EXTENDER TO GET IT OFF.
