My first look at the FIC SD-11

by Gr8ful Gr8ful is a Lead on Epinions in Computer Hardware, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, May 11 '00
Pros: Accepts 1GHz and higher processors, all major features.
Cons: Only 1 ISA slot, different northside and southside chipsets
The FIC SD-11 motherboard is truly a good board for the AMD Athlon processor, but there are a few issues that would personally give me second thoughts before purchasing this motherboard. I came close to buying one but I had a look at it and decided to...

Athlon Board for You

by artic00cat Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 04 '00
Pros: Roomy Architecture
Cons: Only supports up to AGP 2X
FIC has stood amongst the top after-market computer mother board manufactures for some time now. With the introduction by AMD of the flagship Athlon processor, FIC jumped on the band wagon and came up with a mother board to support the slotA...

Solid, but oversized

by npaladin , May 20 '00
Pros: Stable, supports 1000 mhz, few compatibility problems.
Cons: No assigning IRQs in BIOS, physical size very large, only 5 PCI slots, no extra USB headers included.
This board, while not something that I would call bad, is most likely decent for the average person. However, the large physical board size makes it troublesome fitting it into many smaller ATX cases. The lack of a 6th PCI slot is also a slight...

FIC is a good choice but not the best

by smijolovic , May 19 '00
Pros: Stability at factory defaults
Cons: Nonexistent overclocking options, and size
I must agree with gr8ful for his review, only I would have rated it higher for its stability.

If you have no plans to overclock, and are not restricted by its enormous size (the biggest in the market) then this may appeal to you. It is...

Great board for little cash

by niterngr , Mar 14 '01
Pros: easy to configure, and easy to install
Cons: only 1 ISA slot
Personally I have always liked FIC mainboards. After owning several of them, and never had a problem with any of them, I decided to buy another. I found this board at a local show with a Athlon K7 700mhz for $125! So I had to buy it. It took me about 10...

A Great Stable Motherboard

by FlyingBlind13 , Jul 02 '00
Pros: Very Stable
Cons: Lacks Some of the Latest Features
Even though this motherboard is not designed to be the board with the latest features it is by far more stable than any I have seen in the past. There were a few limitations that I was worried about while picking out this motherboard, its power...

BEWARE THIS MOTHERBOARD IS A WASTE OF MONEY

by superdave144 , Jan 06 '01
Pros: you can probably get it dirt cheap because it is garbage
Cons: It is totally dysfunctional!!!!!!!!!!!
My friend and I both purchased this motherboard at the same time. It took me six hours just to get the motherboard working properly enough to install windows. I finally got it up and running after about 14 straight hours of work. The computer never...

Warm Restart Problems...

by kollins , Jan 22 '04
Pros: None! Not worth the hassle, get newer/better m/b.
Cons: Power on after win98 shutdown fails until restart is pushed.
I had this board for awhile, it's been in multiple cases with multiple power supplies and multiple add in cards and it's always had the same problem: After shutting down the system from Windows 98SE if you attempt to power it back up you get no power ...

FIC SD11 is the smart buy for any Athlon system.

by Zeppy91 , May 12 '00
Pros: Supports new Athlon 1Ghz CPU, very stable, Soft BIOS setup
Cons: None anymore (now comes w/ 200 Mhz FSB)
When I was shopping around for the parts to build my Athlon system, I researched a lot of reviews on motherboards. I was waiting for the new Epox EP-7KXA, but no online vendor carried it at a reasonable price and don't even get me started on the retail...

Keep Looking

by yaz67 , Jan 04 '01
Pros: You get what you pay for
Cons: Very Unstable
I am a big AMD fan and had to get a new Athlon CPU as soon as I could. One of the first MB's out was the FIC SD-11. The board looked good so I bought one. I had the bad luck of buying one with the Reset problem. FIC was quick to replace the bad board....

Good Deal

by Kiddbass98 , Jul 21 '00
Pros: Very Cheap Mother board that's stable.
Cons: 751 AMD Chipset and only 3 memory slots.
I bought this board to test a Athlon Processor I was given to me by a friend. At the time I didn't really want to spend a lot of money on a new Mother board and this was the cheapest board available. After buying it I was a little uneasy to learn that...

Pros: Very stable and inexpensive.
Cons: Only 1 serial port and not the latest and greatest.
I have owned 2 SD-11 Athlon boards and I still own one. (I sold one to a friend because I wanted the latest and greatest but you can read about that in my AK72 review) The FIC SD-11 is a very stable board. I have a OC'd 550@700 running without ANY...
