Pros: Outstanding close-up pictures, compact, lightweight, vivid color, good battery life Cons: Cannot do much editing with PictureProject software; hard to rename
The Nikon Coolpix 4800 digital camera is bringing me a whole new digital shooting experience from my previous Kodak digital camera. The Nikon Coolpix 4800 is lightweight and compact combining 4 megapixels, a powerful 8.3x optical Zoom and a range of ...
Pros: photo quality, ease of use, ZOOM, scene modes, light and small for ultrazoom, price Cons: big compared to non-ultrazooms, photos a little noisy when dark

I've owned this Nikon digital camera for a while now, and originally bought it for photographs I posted on my web site. These particular pictures of wargaming miniatures required what could best be described as 'extreme close-up' capacity, and the ...
Pros: Beautifully made, and has all the desirable features. Good tech support. Cons: Photo software troublesome to load; Win98 users, even if you upgraded, need not apply.
This was my first new-camera purchase after using an SLR (not a Nikon) for 31 years. After much research I bought the digital Nikon Coolpix 4800 because 1) I trusted the brand although Nikons are now manufactured in China instead of Japan; 2) I always ...
Pros: Excellent optical zoom.
Compact, easy to carry.
Easy to use.
Good battery life
Cons: Poor software. Little you can do in terms of editing, compression, etc.
Image stabilization missed
I tour a lot, and had been on the lookout for a good camera for some time. I already had a point and shoot film type camera, which though convenient, had no zoom (therefore rather forgettable landscape/scenery shots), and of course, all the disadvantages ...
Pros: Excellent zoom, excellent macro capabilities, excellent photos Cons: I just wish it had a faster shutter lag.
I own many Nikon cameras, and this one has been one of my favorites. I usually take 100 pictures a week (and Im not a pro photographer, just a casual shooter), so I go through cameras quite often, and this one has stood the test of time. It has ...
Pros: Zoom, big lens, color, pricing, best cheapie out there Cons: noise, no manual operations like shutter priority , no stabilizer. slow, dark
I am updating this in February. Quality control for this camera is all over the place as I tried three but generally speaking this is the best of the 4 megapixels I have tried and to sum up the reasons why : decent lens, nikon quality and 8x zoom ...
Pros: Good overall camera Cons: Slow for action shots
I like my Nikon Coolpix 4800. It's lightweight, takes great pictures, the battery lasts forever, easy to use. What don't I like. It's very slow. I get photos of where the stunt plane WAS a few seconds ago, or my son skating AWAY from the goal he just made.... Wish I could morph this camera into a faster one.
Pros: Great zoom (in lots of light) Cons: Auto focus is SOOOOO bad it makes everything else irrelevant!
I got this camera after a long review process. As a building inspector I need good low-light, good auto focus and a long optical zoom. This camera appeared to do all these things.
Not so.
The auto focus (even in normal light) is poor at best. In low light it's a joke!
I am very good with electronics and an good photographer. It's not me, it's the camera.
The optical zoom it great, in a lot of light. In normal indoor lighting conditions the poor focus makes everything else irrelevant.
Pros: Holds a charge. Cons: Was a little expensive. Photo software is NOT USER FRIENDLY!
I had previously had a Kodak camera but it never held a charge so I replaced it with the Nikon Coolpix. I have had it for two months now and really like it. It holds a charge for it stated time (I believe 3 camera hours, which is a lot). Photos are very clear and the different setting for indoors or closeup are really neat.
Only thing that could be better is the photo software is very hard to use. It comes with little or no instructions how to work it.
Pros: Many options; large capacity; right-sized for larger hands Cons: Poor flash control in low light.
I have had the CoolPix for over a year, and got it because of the 8X optical zoom (most pix are nature and landscapes, not parties and people.) Three separate camera stores recommended it, based on my stated requirements. We take a modest number of pictures, and capacity is never a problem. A single charge will take hundred of non-flash pix, and a 128MB card will hold 300+ pix.
The biggest complaint is poor shutter speed control in low light (and/or poor sensitivity of the CCD.) Without flash in even room light, it's hard to get sharp pix as the shutter speed is too long. In bright light or outside (even in winter in the NW) this is not an issue. Controlling the flash in low light to get a proper color balance is a trial and error process.
The camera is the right size and easy to manipulate is you have medium or larger hands, or slightly stiff ones (I am, after all, getting older.) The compact digitals' controls are too small.
The CoolPix does have an extensive menu of options for controlling your picture; be sure to practice with them while you have time.
