Pros: 8X Nikkor Zoom, 8 megapixel resolution
Cons: Cons: Noisy images at ISO 400, AF hunts in low light, weak battery
Over the last couple of years Nikon has been losing market share to other manufacturers, but that negative sales trend may be due to change. Nikons R&D folks have introduced two very exciting new digital cameras (the Coolpix 8700 and the D70 ...
Pros: Stylish, good quality photos, large memory capacity. Cons: big and clunky, gets an error message a lot
Let me state right away that I am not a camera professional or claim to be a techno guru. Far from it, I am a new mom who wanted to take loads of photos and share with family on the web. I know what I want out of a camera and that's about it. If you ...
Pros: Amazing zoom, incredible quality, color perfection, expandability, compatibility, uses CF cards Cons: Too many features! (Not exactly bad, but there's a learning curve), no CF media
Don’t you just love that new plastic smell – like when you pull this camera out of the box? Yeah, of course! Mine smelled like that about a month back. Now it’s got a pleasant combo of camera bag & sweet, yet tangy barbecue sauce – that got spilled on ...
Pros: Easy to Use, Sharp, Flexible, Good basic software, Good Color. Cons: Weakness in the Magenta-Red part of the spectrum. Occasional Focus Problem.
The Nikon 8700 is my fourth camera; my second digital camera. In almost every way it pulls its weight. Under most favorable conditions it takes crisp photos with good, accurate color. And under most of the conditions when the image is flawed, the ...
Pros: Great photos, easy to use, small Cons: Pricey, some buttons malplaced, non-threaded lense
I originally started out with the Minolta Dimage A2, but sent it back when I found the colors to be a little off and the pictures soft. I ordered the Nikon 8700 because I had heard they fixed the problem of focusing in low light conditions from the 5700. ...
Pros: Quality pics, Macro performance, Very high quality Long lens. Cons: Poor low light performance. Blurry pics at full zoom
I purchased a Nikon 8700 because I needed a compact camera with a long lens and quality pictures. This is a lot to ask from a camera. On most counts, the 8700 delivers and in general I am pleased with the camera, with one significant exception and a ...
Pros: Great images, light and easy to use, many options Cons: Noise, battery life.
I've just come from a trip in Holland, Finland and Estonia. Made 1500 images under all sorts of conditions. First, the bad news: battery life is short, too short. On a trip you need at least two of them to keep you around. I even kept a 2CR5 ready in ...
It feels very good in your hands and it performs excellent. It will give you very nice, sharp and well saturated pictures. But I have noticed a little problem and is that it has too much contrast, even if you set the contrast to normal or low(lighted ...
Pros: easy to use, excellent resolution and rendering Cons: some often used features can be hard to get to, size
As a graphic designer, I often find that I need to either shoot an image at a specific angle myself - particularly when a client doesn't understand print resolution vs. web resolution. I also enjoy taking landscape shots. The coolpix 8700 is a "prosumer" ...
Pros: Easy to use, producing great photos. Very high quality build. Terrific lens. Cons: So good, it would make the next camera I buy, be another Nikon.
I bought my Nikon Coolpix 8700 digital camera, while on holidays in Hawaii. The camera was easy to use and I was able to take some great photos strait away. The camera enabled me to cap off a fantastic holiday with lasting, colourful and vibrant photos. ...
Pros: GREAT pictures! Compact! Once you get past the instructions, it's really easy. Cons: Instructions could be better written. Maybe a "NIKON 8700 for Dummies" is in the works.
I've spent the last few years ALMOST buying a digital camera. When the new wave of 8Mb cameras came out, it was my wife who said: "NOW! Do it now!" So after reading every available review on epinions and slowly working my way through newsgroups I ...
Pros: 8 Megapixel CCD, Low Noise Level, Super Viewfinder and LCD, Excellent Optics, Optional Vertical Grip Cons: Lack of manual focus ring
The Nikon Coolpix 8700 is an upgrade of the 5700, using the same magnesium alloy chassis, with some significant changes. Of course, the biggest change is the the growth from 5 to 8 megapixels. On a practical level, this means that flawless 16x20 prints ...
Pros: 280mm zoom, compact, ED glass, movie mode Cons: Slow shutter lag, slow ISO speed, slow, slow, slow
Don't make the mistake I made. I used the 8700 for three months and took about 1000 pics in every situation possible. I then sold the 8700 and purchased the D70 kit. For the same amount of money, The D70 blows the 8700 away in speed and ease of use. The speed of the D70 (200-1600)is the difference. The 8700 has a so called rating of 50-400 ISO but you can only get usable pics in the ISO 50 setting. This is OK for a tripod on a sunny day where the subject is still. The D70 at 1600 ISO takes an excellent focused pic off of the tripod. Put the D70 at about ISO 800 and you can take excellent focused pictures with an aperture of about F11. The pics will be hard to beat. The 8700 tries to make up for the differences by adding a movie mode and best shot selector but, these do not get you focused shots hand held in the shade. The D70 is much easier to use too. All the important settings are at your finger tips not in some sub menu.
Perfectly suitable for most needs. by damagedfiles ,May 15 '09
Pros: It takes beautiful pictures and anyone with a patience can master the controls. Cons: The low light situation is dreadful;the controls on the camera are not placed well.
I was not at all dissatisfied by this camera. I had some problems, but for the price I thought that it was a nice camera. It served my needs at the time very well. A good mid-range priced camera.
Pros: features are great, size is good and easy to travel with Cons: hmmm. you cant interchange lens, but then with this great zoom...
I've only had it a week, but love it. I use it more than my d100 due to its size. There is a learning curve however and I havent figured out the d100 fully yet and I am now a little overwhelmed with having to learn this one too. I'm going to Europe soon and its the camera to take. It does everything the d100 does. some a little better!
