Pros: Nikon reputation for quality and ruggedness. High image quality, can use older Nikon mount lenses. Cons: Expensive for body-only camera, plastic body, I would have preferred magnesium.
Having been invested in Nikons for over 10 years getting a D70 was certainly going to happen. I take thousands of travel related pictures and clothing pictures for our eBay clothing business so need quality of image, ease of use and interchangeable ...

Pros: Easy to use, Uses standard Nikon lenses, Great color. Cons: No cable release connector (optional remote only).
I finally got tired of waiting for a DSLR that I could afford/justify about two years ago and bought a Nikon 4500 with every available accessory. I shoot mostly landscapes and action stuff so without a real viewfinder it was always a challenge to get ...

Pros: Fast startup time. Very good picture quality. Fast shot to shot delay. Cons: Very Heavy/Bulky. LCD back NOT for framing shots. Not Portable.
I just bought AND returned the Nikon D70 Outfit with the AF-S DX 18-70mm lens. Having spent many of my younger years using an SLR camera and more recent years with a Canon 2.1 MPixel point and shoot digital, I was looking to step up in picture quality. ...

Pros: Light body, excellent photo results, fast flash sync Cons: No cable release screw in, else found nothing else
I had bought a Nikon D100 back in Dec 2002 and thought I could not be more pleased, until I read about and then purchased my D70. I have to say there is little wrong, and to date nothing that I can attest to, only those reviews that talk about things I ...

Pros: the BEST entry level DSLR at this time. Cons: 3FPS seems pokey, no vert grip available.
Really just a fantastic camera! you may not take great pics with this right out of the box, but the learning curve is steep and graduates from a p&s digicam will love the quality and flexibility of the D70. Great color, great menus and typical Nikon ...

Pros: Picture, battery, automatic features, ease to learn, lens compatibility, price, flash and hot shoe. Cons: At this time I have not found any. However, if I do; I will update.
Great camera, easy to use, easy to learn complicated features, book is well laid out with great references to related features. The fast shutter speed with blow you away. I keep the camera set to multiple shutter all the time. You just never know when ...

Pros: Use with Nikon lenses, control over the shots, lightweight, high resolution, fast shutter response time Cons: Cost. The photo software is not that great.
I just got my Nikon D70 in the mail after ordering it over the phone through Abe's of Maine yesterday. Two day delivery and it was at my door in less than 24 hours! WOW! The device is so easy that I had it working without opening up the manual in ...

Pros: Image quality is fantastic and flexible! Cons: Would rock to have black/white and sepia tone capabilities.
I own a low end minolta film camera, a canon powershot A80, and now the Nikon D70. I went from film to digital because of time and costs. The canon allowed for instant gratification and introduced me to digital trickery. What it lacked primarily was ...

Pros: Battery life, menu system; ergonomic; FAST on & recycle time; uses CF cards Cons: Plastic LCD protector on back falls off easily; Nikon Capture software costs extra ... why?
I've had my D70 now since March 23 (thanks Wolf/Ritz in Atlanta) and the wait was worth it! The people at Wolf Camera on 14th Street are awesome. Bought a Nikon 70-300 zoom lens too along with a 1 GB CF card. Total $1,800+. After initial battery ...

Pros: Fast, Versitile, Handy, Light. Super Great Camera if you like photography, and want digital. Cons: None?
Well I got my D70 a few weeks ago. I absolutly love it. I put it in my nice camera bag and keep it with me at all times, safer that way ^_^. Anyways, this is a very very good camera, and I just had an N65. For example, you use the command dial to ...

Pros: No camera shake, ease of use, built-in flash, incredibly versatile for all shooting venues Cons: Can't use old speedlight, some built-in flash indoor use will overexpose subject matter
I am an avid Nikon SLR user - of course all with 35mm film prior to now. I have owned 4 other digital cameras (with increasingly higher megapixel and zoom capabilities) and have now landed on what I hope will be my "last" digital camera. The D70 (6.1 ...

Pros: Great battery life and easy to use. Cons: Horrible service and manufacturing flaws. They ignore BBB.
Fibers in lens meet Nikon Specs. Ok if I can see fibers inside a lens surely I would not buy it, would you? Well the fact is it takes a few minutes of use for the fibers to move from the sides of the lens to the middle where you will notice them. ...

What a Leap!
by sailingshot ,Dec 23 '04
Pros: Fast, well made and designed, VERY easy to use in manual modes, excellent images! Cons: AF assist light easily blocked by fingers, hard to resist buying "just a few lenses."
If you had cameras like Minolta Z1's, Panasonics and Sony's, be prepared for a major leap. The D70 is a real camera and shoots like one. Search for my comparison between the awful Nikon 8800 (Search NIKON 8800) and D70 for more on this topic. I really feel that prosumer types are a waste of money, especially once you try a DSLR.
Put simply...the D70 lets you GET THE SHOTS. Fast AF, no lag, beautiful images and so on. It's bigger than prosumer types, but fits in the same bag (with an extra lens) I used for my Nikon 8800.
The D70 (or most other DSLRS) is an eye opening experience and folks who spend big bucks on a Minolta A200 or Nikon 8800 often just don't know what they're missing.
The D70 is not the "best" camera I've used, but it's the most fun! Don't worry about new technology. The D70 will shoot great pics for years and you might as well wait for the generation after the next one. Don't miss those shots in the meantime!
