Love the camera!
by teamofemus2 ,Nov 25 '05
Pros: Price, quality, flash sync, variety
Cons: Megapixels (but it's no biggie)
This is truly a great camera. Wouldn't trade it in for anything else in the price range (but am waiting for the Nikon D200 to come out, it sounds real nice...) Anyway, the color is on par, the flash sync is 1/500 instead of 1/250 like 99% of the other DSLRs priced like this on the market... OH, and a word of advice - if you're considering a Canon Digital Rebel or the Rebel XT, look elsewhere. Had it for a week and hated it. Even though it doesn't come with a lens, it's still a great product and takes really great pictures. My ONLY complaint is that it doesn't have a higher megapixel size, but otherwise, it's really just a great camera. Been a photographer for, say, 8 years. You have my word and if you have any other questions, feel free to email me at teamofemus AT gmail DOT com.

Love it!!!!
by staff3900 ,Aug 06 '06
Pros: Feels good. Lots of latitude in its ability.
Cons: Poor built-in flash.
My second Digital Camera. Bought one back in 1999 and for the time it was considered a good camera (Kodak) but this thing just blows it out of the water. I'm not a camera professional by a long shot and just use it as a family and hobby camera but both my wife and I find it relatively easy to use. I'm still learning all of the amazing features it has. Would recommend this camera to any level of photographer. Added a 70-300 mm Sigma lens with Macro and am very pleased at the resolution of our close up photos. I'm not nuts about the built in flash and find it inadequate. Sometimes get my hand in front of the meter which fools the camera and give me underexposed pictures. My fault though. Also don't like the software supplied and I don't use it. I use photoshop instead.

The Future is Now
by joustknight ,May 22 '04
Pros: Perfect for proffessional photographers
Cons: Too Expensive
Wow! The quality is outstanding, and ofcourse even if it is expensive, by my opinion its worth every penny( if you have that kind of money.) I highly recommend this product to those who are advanced in photography and are looking for something more advanced.

Greatest camera I've ever owned
by joemit ,Jan 27 '05
Pros: Ease of use. Super battery life. Durable.
Cons: Could possibly be a little smaller.
This camera is awesome. It shoots great pictures (nearly comparable to film photos) is easy to use, durable and has a battery life that I still have trouble believing! The manual leaves a little to be desired but that's not unusual but the camera is set up for ease of use and most basic procedures and settings can be figured out using the in-camera help system. The automated settings make the camera nearly idiot-proof and offers custom settings to handle just about any situation. Don't miss this one. Its worth every penny!

As happy as when I first got my F4
by nukeguy1 ,Aug 30 '04
Pros: Fast autofocus, clear images, high performance, professional feel, tons of features
Cons: Too complicated for the novice, but then too expensive too!
I just bought this camera, and boy am I ever happy with it. As a fairly advanced amature (I was a pro for a short while, but I decided I liked being able to pay rent!) I can say that this is the finest camera I've held since I bought my F4. The autofocus is fast and sharp, there is zero shutter delay, and the light scaling is excellent.

Another big advantage is the ability to use 1GB-2GB cards in it. I have a 1GB card, and because I purchased a high performance write card, I can literally hold down the release and take advantage of max FPS without having to slow down to wait for the camera to catch up writing out images from cache.

All in all, VERY happy!

Warning:Small viewfinder!!!
by tforan ,Mar 28 '04
Pros: Fast autofocus:Great Light Meter: Solid Feel:Flash works well in auto
Cons: The viewfinder! Mode dial is cheap. No flash synch socket 18-70 lens
The viewfinder is a bush league viewfinder stuck on a big league camera. MAKE CERTAIN YOU CAN LIVE WITH THIS VIEWFINDER BEFORE YOU BUY THE CAMERA. It is very difficult to see what you are doing in low light conditions.
The left hand "Mode" dial looks easily broken.

Only shoots in jpeg, or Nikon's .nef(raw) format. There is no .tiff format.Buying software from Nikon to process .nef in photoshop.

There is no flash synch socket
The manual leaves many issues unanswered. Nikon support is lacking.

I am not wild about the 18-70 DX lens sold with the body. The lens is very quick to focus and versatile in its focal lengths. Unfortunately the compromise is that its optical quality is obviously good, but not great (compared to my 80-200 f2.8,for instance) and it is just brutal when you use it at its longest focal length. As well, the lens coating is just a dust magnet...more so than any other lens that I have owned. I am already looking around for something to replace it.

the good: Image quality is superb. Light meter!!! Ergonomics. It feels solid( except for the "mode"dial) Fast Autofocus. Battery life.

The D70 Rocks!
by firetruck1948 ,Jul 10 '04
Pros: Reasonably light. Very easy to use simply while retaining advanced features.
Cons: Wished Minolta had done this so I could have used my lenses.
I have owned and used the D70 for about three weeks including a two week trip where I took over a thousand images. I totally amazed at the quality of the results. Fewer than 2% of the images were "throwaways". Colors were rich. The D70's very short "time to shoot" enabled me and my technophobic wife to get decent shots even as we were going down the road. I have owned two digital cameras prior to purchasing this replacement for my 20 year-old Minolta Maxxum 7. I purchased the D70 with a two-lens kit that cover the range from 28 to 300 (remember 35 equivalent to about 35 - 450).

I will likely retire the Maxxum.

Nikon D70 Camera
by sarajfree ,Oct 20 '04
Pros: It does the job right. With never a regret of buying it.
Cons: There is always higher and newer technolodgy coming out.
The Nikon D70 is a wonderful camera to have. I couldn't be any happier with it. It takes beautiful pictures and it focuses in on the object so nicely. it is an easily held camera and light weight. The camera is magnificent and I really recommend buying it.
