Pros: Superb picture quality, easy to use, feature full and comfortable to use Cons: Does not fully support TIFF, costly for a first time user
I have been a bit remiss concerning my Epinions account lately. And I apologize to all who may have suffered for my lack in reviewing your submissions... Today I am here to talk about one of you most fragile and costly, but necessary ...
Pros: Great build quality. Battery life is phenomenal. Outstanding photo quality. Cons: Difficult to eject compact flash card. No manual focus ring. Too many features for most.
This is my 2nd digital camera, and like most everything else, I spend months shopping around before I make a decision on a purchase. My previous camera was an Olympus C-50. While small and compact, I quickly outgrew its' limitations. For those of ...
Pros: Exceptional picture quality. Great flexibility. Fun to use. Cons: No hard copy full manual. On/off switch too close to dial.
I was not in the market for a new digital camera this year. I had an Olympus C-2100UZ that I was very happy with. Unfortunately, I left the camera in a cab in Boston and I am sure it has been sold on E-Bay by now. I have owned two other digital cameras ...
Pros: Very fast, reliable, and great quality. Cons: In low light areas the auto focus take a bit longer than usual.
Three months after Olympus release the C-8080 (8 mega pixel) digital camera, I was drooling to get my hands on it. I decided to sell my Olympus C-4000 Zoom and buy the C-8080. I got this Camera online after I found the cheapest vendor on epinions.com ...
Pros: Long lasting battery life and crisp pictures with the wide zoom lens. Cons: slow focusing (auto) during low-light setting.
When I first consider getting a digital camera, I was afraid that it will be out-performed by the rapid movement in the digital technology. After months of research online and seeking advice from friends, I'd listed out 3 cameras of my choice. The ...
I've been in this business of reviewing for some time but the Olympus Camedia c-8080 burst on me like a brilliant ray of sunshine. I had "dumbed down" - sold my Drebel with three lenses and an assortment of gimcracks and bought the 8080, solely on the ...
Pros: Results, size, feel, ease of use. Cons: Fiddly conversion lenses. Time taken to write tiff and raw files to card.
This camera replaced an old friend - a Canon A1 slr - and I was not holding out too much hope that it would give really satisfactory images. How wrong I was. This is a superb camera with first class results. Limitations exist with the size of print you ...
Pros: Fabulous image quality, and tremendous flexibility make this a great choice for demanding enthusiasts. Cons: The resolution of the LCD screens, both the internal and external, is somewhat poor.
I have owned a number of cameras from film days to the new digitals and needed one with a resolution high enough for me to make good sized enlargements. I was pleased at how flexible this camera really is. If your aim is simply to make high resolution ...
Pros: Fast operation,Rigid body, a pleasure to take GOOD pictures with, macro function very good. Cons: Full Manual on CD only - menu is a bit inintuitive in places
Takes unbelievably good pictures! in some of the worse lighting too. To tell you how well its built..Behold "The Battery latch" It has a proper double latch system (one inside) which means battery doesnt force itself on the battery door. buttons ...
Pros: Awesome pictures, clear, crisp. Cons: Too many buttons & features. Bad/Blurry pics in low light.
I'm not a professional photographer. As a matter of fact, I don't know anything about pictures other than point and shoot. I do home-based desktop publishing and web design so I need a good camera. This one is 8MP This camera has LOTS of ...
Pros: FAST startup, very little shutterlag in comparison, nice EVF, WIDE ANGLE, configurable, solid feel. Cons: NOT a beginners camera! Buy a cheaper model if you only want family snapshots.
I have an Olympus c-3030zoom. I've used it for about 5 years now, I guess. I've really enjoyed the camera, but it's taken some knocks and I was yearning for something better. At first I thought I'd go with an extreme telephoto digital, but after thinking ...
Pros: VERY fast, excellent 5X wide angle zoom, broad ISO range, dual memory media slots
Cons: Camera locks while writing RAW images to card and complex operation
The new eight megapixel Olympus C8080WZ squares off very nicely against its competition from Nikon, Canon, Minolta, and Sony because Olympus product development staff didnt just affix an 8 mega pixel CCD to an on hand platform. They started ...
Pros: Great quality shots and settings. Good, practical range of zoom and wide angle capability. Cons: Large size, moderately heavy.
I purchased a Olympus C-8080 about 6 months ago, and I've used in a variety of photographic settings, including macro mode, under semi-professional lights for portraits and still objects (my kids aren't still most of the time), action shots while out on ...
Pros: Great photographs, built like a tank, lots of features Cons: Poor low light focus
When this camera focuses it can take some really nice pictures. This camera is very well constructed and has a nice feel to it. The macro function is also excellent for close ups of coins, jewelry, flowers etc... The extended lens can sometimes cast a ...
Pros: Magnificent Build, Full Features, Awesome lens. Cons: Noise obvious even at ISO 50, when shot is viewed 100%. Can't compare to dSLR.
The c8080 is a finely wrought camera that is solid and handles very well. The lens is simply outstanding although focusing tends to be loud as the glass adjusts. People complain that the LCD only tilts upward and cannot twist out, but this is minor in my ...
Pros: Awesome quality photos,
Great feel,
Super Lens
Cons: Manual Focus Control,
Smaller than average zoom,
Noise after 200 ISO,
1st Unit died
I am going to be brief and not technical. Owned and operated this camera for about two months. The camera has a little weight ... but it feels great in your hand. It takes some of the best photos that I think you can get in this camera class. It ...
Pros: Looks and feels good. Cons: A very frustrating tool, even for an experienced user.
Be sure to buy your 8080 from Costco, they have a satisfaction guarantee or your money back. I bought my 8080 back in April to replace my worn out 3040. I so loved the 3040, it was slow, but usually got the shot. 30,000 + pictures later, the zoom ...
Not for the point and shoot crowd by madmonkey53 ,Jul 28 '05
Pros: Build quality, optics, versatility, pro-images Cons: None....for those who know what this is before they buy!!
This camera is most definitely World Class....and very much able to hold its own against many digital slr cameras.
It is quite simply a remarkable camera with a host of features....and yes....tremendous optics!
Unfortunately many consumers buying this camera have not fully taken the time to understand its potential and the inherent necessity to be able to work in a more semi-automatic mode. I have seen too many people buy this camera and expect to point, shoot, and print out great photos. Well the reality is that this is truly a pro-sumer camera.....and users must be willing to spend the time to learn how to use it. On the bright side of this situation is the fact that many people who cannot or will not take the time to master and learn this camera are trying to sell their camera for next to nothing....trying to get the 8 megapixel point and shoot! That is great for those of us that understand what a fine camera this is. BUY IT!
Still Great - Though discontinued too soon! by npettijohn ,Jul 02 '07
Pros: Photo results, wide angle to 28 mm, hot shoe, swivel-screen Cons: None in this class.
Really exceptional optics for the class. Results are amazing. I bought this camera instead of an SLR because it is a sealed system that protects the sensor from dirt. A friend with a Nikon D70 is always having issues with dust, while I am not. (Though, I envy the choice of lenses he has.) The "28 mm" (equivalent) focal length was the other feature I wanted, along with the ability to shhot RAW images. RAW takes 20-30 seconds to write, which is admittedly slower than with an SLR, but the high-res JPEGS are fast, and very good. Under-water housing is a fun bonus, and cheap, these days.
An excellent pro-sumer camera. by fbmc ,Jul 24 '04
Pros: Great image quality. Compares favorably to dSLR performance. Very fast start-up. Cons: It needs a manual focus ring. EVP - yuck! Extended lens bulky.
My initial reaction was... "oh no, I think I just bought a toy." However, once I started shooting test shots at varying aperture settings, my fears proved to be unfounded.
While clearly not a digital slr, it still provides very clear and nearly noiseless images. (Far better than my E20.) While some have mentioned problems writing in RAW mode, I have not experienced these problems at all. I just ordered a battery grip for mine, which I wouldn't have done if I weren't happy with the camera.
Go to www.dpreview.com and perform a side-by-side test image comparison between ANY dSLR and the C8080 and you'll be pretty amazed at how closely it compares. In fact, the 23mb raw images are pleasantly clear side-to-side and top-to-bottom.
I believe much of this clarity is a function of the superior lens Olympus elected to use. If you love tweaking and sharpening in Photoshop, this may not be the camera for you, as the RAW images in default are crisp and quite color accurate.
