Not very good of a camera, but okay.

by jf67-4_839 , Jan 02 '07
Pros: Easy to connect to the computer for easy downloading.
Cons: Lag about 15 seconds in between shots in HQ 2048x1536 (default) quality.
I have this camera and to tell you the truth, I am not impressed with it. First of all, the lag is really bad - about 14-15 seconds between shots in mode HQ 2048x1536 (I timed it). It drains batteries. I have Duracell Rechargeable 2300mAH AA/HR6/DC1500 ...

It is frustratingly slow, but it works well

by jn_owensboro , Jun 20 '07
Pros: Good picture quality, low price, ease of use
Cons: Ridiculously slow between pictures, devours batteries
Three years ago, my wife and I decided that we needed a new camera to document the upcoming birth of our son. Having used Olympus digital cameras before when I worked for a small weekly newspaper, I had been impressed by how good they were. That sealed ...

This camera is awesome
by poohoickle ,Dec 11 '04
Pros: Great pictures and everything else.
Cons: Absolutely none!
I have had Vivitar, Kobian and Concord digitals before and this Olympus is far, far, far superior to all of them. If you want a easy to use camera, with great picture quality then this is your camera. The only thing that a professional would miss is a optical zoom, other than that there is everything you really need. My friends have Canon, HP and Sony digitals and this camera does just as good or better job at pictures. Olympus is proving once again that they build great cameras.
A must would be a bigger XD card if you want more than 6 SHQ pictures. I would recommend this camera to anyone that wants a quality camera.

Great camera for casual use
by m_t_b ,Apr 12 '06
Pros: Easy to hold, good features, nice menus, takes good pictures.
Cons: Prone to jitter, shutter lag, eats battery when off.
I bought this camera for my wife almost a year ago. We'd had another Olympus camera before and it worked well and this model was within our budget.

The camera works well and seems nearly indestructible, but is quite prone to jitter and has a significant shutter lag (also contributes to jitter). (For sample pictures, see my pictures from the Toronto International Auto Show taken with this camera at http://flickr.com/photos/mikebabcock/tags/autoshow).

Shutter lag isn't the only delay as flash charging seems to take forever. I use quite good Panasonic NiMH batteries and a charge lasts me a full day of shooting my 256MB memory card, but leaving them in the camera overnight and turned off will drain them (resetting the date and time information in the camera).

If you're planning to pick up a camera and go on vacation and shoot some pictures, this is it. It takes great pictures. If you need to take indoor pictures and can afford a better camera with faster flash charging, do so.

Great for the price
by lynxkitty ,Nov 24 '04
Pros: Compact, drop-resistant, low cost, great photos.
Cons: Zoom sucks, low storage, lag between photos.
I received this camera after cashing in 'points' with one of those incentive programs. While I was expecting a piece of junk, this little wonder surprised me by being quite good. Point, click, upload. We use this camera everywhere, and the relative low replacement price means that I don't have to worry about loosing it on vacation. I highly recommend if you are in the market for an inexpensive camera that takes very good quality pictures.

If you are serious about taking good action shots or professional photos, this camera is not for you. There is a lag between pressing the shutter and actually taking the picture, so you may loose some good action shots, and the zoom leaves something to be desired. Also, you will need to purchase a larger card if you want to take more than 36 or so photos.

There are better choices out there
by phildetwei ,Jun 02 '06
Pros: Small
Cons: Delayed Shutter Response, Eats Batteries, Poor Picture Quality
I bought this camera because I loved my trusty old Olympus D-380 and when it needed to be replaced, they no longer sold that model. This one is not anywhere nearly as good as the older model in my opinion. The picture quality is noticeably poorer than that of the D-380 (even on the highest quality setting), to the point that I am going to replace the camera with something different. In addition to that, there is this terrible delay between squeezing the shutter button and an actual picture being taken. Often, it will not take at all, even after repeatedly pressing the button. It is worse when the batteries are weak, which is all the time because after a handful of pictures, my rechargeable batteries are already going dead. I used my old D-380 for years and took hundreds, perhaps thousands of pictures with it and never had a complaint. I can't use this camera on even one occasion without being disappointed.
