Pros: Good Wireless connection, good price, Remote Control, easy to run SimpleCenter Software. Cons: Set Up was really tough. USB/Ethernet Adapter didn't work. No fast forward or rewinding songs
I recently purchased the Omnifi DMS1 MP3 player in a package with 2 wireless adapters and the DMP1 Car MP3 Player. I will review only the DMS1 here, as that is all I have set up and used. This item came packaged at a great deal for $200. I was ...
Pros: Quality build, Play MP3/WMA from your PC, great sound quality when interfaced with your stereo. Cons: Will not work with most paid internet radio stations, software outdated.
I thought this was going to be IT. Ever since I got DSL I've been totally hooked on Yahoo Launchcast Radio as well as some other internet radio stations. I was in desperate need to get internet radio to my stereo receiver. The DMS1 was advertised as ...
Pros: Stable, works great wired, Excellent front-panel display and control Cons: Wireless option is 802.11b only.
I have three of these units now and they all work great. One of the best features, in my opinion, is that it has all the buttons right on the front of the unit - you don't really need the remote. The display is nice and big also. The unit plays WMAs ...
Pros: Great interface, wonderful concept Cons: Server software stinks
Here's the general idea: MP3 files sit on your PC, play through your stereo. In more detail: A server, SimpleCenter (more on this later), runs on your PC and passes MP3 files and internet radio stations to the DMS1 connected to your stereo over your ...
Pros: Simple, quick, easy, reliable Cons: No playlists, no video, no pics,
This thing was pretty cool when it came out a few years ago. If you only want to stream music, its definitely adequate. I have a HUGE music collection on a 200 gig drive. SimpleCenter and Omnifi really arent set up that well to deal with this much music. If have a couple hundred songs it should suite your needs. Also, this device doesnt support playlists which is a HUGE drag. It'd be really cool to be able to create a play list on the comfort of your PC and then just tell omnifi to play that list...but you cant. SimpleCenter is horrible software and the makes of it should be ashamed. I use TwonkyVision as my server side software. Sooooo much easier to use and a lot less bulky
If you want to stream video and pics, look somewhere else. I still think the best way to go is to just hook a damn computer up to your entertainment center and cut out the middle man.
