Pros: Great sound, plays MP3s, IR Onkyo link, 6 discs, coaxial & optical digital outs Cons: Lower SNR than Denon, No HDCD support, No SACD support
The sound quality on this unit is amazing. PROS: * Sound Quality I am very impressed with the sound quality. I was using an old Sony ES single-CD player, and a standard Sony CD changer before that. The standard Sony CD changer, in retrospect, ...

Pros: Sounds good on its' own - sweet with natural detail, good value, operation, coaxial output Cons: The last half octave of bass is subdued, but, only critcal listening reveals any difference.
Santa brought me this six-disc changer to replace an aging Marantz 63SE single-disc player (entry-level hifi in its day) that, only since then, has finally given up the ghost. Sound/wise the first thing I noticed, right out of the box, was the ...

Pros: Great! An unbelievable value, and great functionality! It also holds six cd's,not five. Cons: when pressing "random" the song you're listening to stops,& the unit goes to random mode.
Long ago I was told by a friend about the quality of Onkyo products, so I looked into their line of CD players(including their new "Integra" brand)when the discman I was using finally wore out. After shopping around among several brands, I bought this ...

Very Poor Quality
by stereodctr ,Sep 02 '06
Pros: Sounds good when it plays. Cons: Very poor quality!!!!
Player worked well at first but after a couple of months would occasionally not recognize that a CD was loaded. It would scan all six slots and then would display No Disc. Usually after pushing the eject button a couple of times it would recognize and play the disc. Today it refuses to recognize a Disc is loaded and will not play anything. It's going to the service center next week. The one year warranty runs out 9/7/06 so luckily I tried it today so I can get it into the shop before the warranty expires. Do not recommend this player. Loading mechanism seems to be poorly designed.

I have had trouble
by nbd720 ,Feb 04 '06
Pros: looks good
matches my receiver Cons: just doesn't work right
Be sure you take out the extended warrenty as mine....
My CD player (Onkyo DXC390) is just over a year old and is now not detecting the CD's.
I have opened to cover to watch the head reading the CD's. When the head was reading the CD it seemed to spin the disk for a second and quit. Idle for 2 seconds and then spun for another second and quit again. The display would show that there is no CD and the carousel would move on to the next. Same thing will happen on the next CD. I am having it repaired and will keep you posted.

You Will Notice The Difference
by carbondad ,May 17 '04
Pros: Crisp, simple, accurate sound which is vastly superior to prior Sony CD player. Cons: None that I can find.
Older Sony 5 Disk just lost its Random, so I shopped for reviews and specs for Multi-CD disk only. Concluded that Music=Music and DVD is best done ($perWow) with its own machine. Thus the CD390 caught my eye.
I know what I hear...the flute sounds more complex and complete, the vocals just a little bit closer. This CD player is a STEAL with Random play, Optical Out, and .005%THD...That is almost NOT Measurable: that is .00005, or a nickle on a thousand dollars. You will Never hear this CD deliver to your Amp, but you WILL notice the subtle, open, crisp accuracy you paid your speakers to deliver. I am Very satisfied

I've had trouble, too
by mikxe ,Sep 27 '08
Pros: 6 discs rather than 5. Cons: It broke after light use.
It worked okay for a couple years, then, like other reviewers have stated, it stopped recognizing the discs. I wasn't using it that often, so it's not like it was overburdened.

ONKYO 6 CD Changer Model NO. DX C390
by kissittwo ,Sep 19 '08
Pros: Looks nice for a paper weight at 169.00 plus tax. 90 day warranty.
Cons: Bad product! DXC390 by ONKYO . Malfunctions by itself
We purchased at HH Gregg less than 6 months ago. I have used it maybe 3 times. I got up this morning to find it turned on and playing. I could not turn it off or eject my Cd's. I called about it to the store and i get to eat $169.00 sale price plus taxes 8%. If Onkyo is reading you need to improve your quality of product and replace your defective merchandise. UN-happy consumer. I own your receiver also and will think very hard before i buy any more of your products. I hope everyone else thinks so too. This product was placed in cabinet where nothing was touching it and was ventilated well.
