I will never put my savings anywhere else by cherfer ,Mar 06 '07
Pros: convenience, no fees, great interest rates Cons: Takes a few days to transfer money over
I have been a loyal ING user for several years now. I have never had any problems with their services. They are on time with tax statements, are true to their word about having no fees on their accounts, and best of all... I regularly get emails telling me that my savings rate has gone up! How many regular banks do that?! I love the convenience of online banking, and ING easily downloads to quicken. I have part of my paycheck direct deposited into my ING account, and have broken down my account into regular savings and savings for my upcoming wedding. I know that when I need to access my wedding funds, all I have to do is a simple online transaction to move my money into my checking account. It does take a few days, but with a little planning ahead, it's never an issue. I will continue to use ING for all my savings needs!
Very Easy to open and I earned $25 Referral Bonus Too by pjalan ,Dec 24 '04
Pros: Easy to Setup and Referral Bonus of $25. FDIC insured till $100,000 per individual Cons: 2-3 days to withdraw money(if this is ok with you?? otherwise none)
Hi:
I opened my savings account with ING Direct today and also earned referral bonus of $25. My traditional banker only paid 0.10% interest on savings and ING pays 2.25%. I heard it takes 2-3 days to withdraw money and you can only make 6 withdrawals in a month with no limit (isnt it enough).I am now setting up my automatic savings plan so that my salary directly goes to ING savings from my checking account. Great way to save money for down payment of your new home.
If you need a referral and earn $25 send me your first and last name and I will send you a referral link.
Pros: Easy application process. $25 bonus for just signing up and depositing as little as $1. Cons: takes about 10 days for initial deposit to take effect. No physical location.
ING direct is one of the best internet banks out there. They have the best interest rates. (currently 3%) At first I was a little hesitant on signing up. But since I have, I have had no problems. It was such a breeze to signup. I would highly recommend this bank to someone who just wants to start saving for the first time. It is a great way to get some return on your cash. If you would like the $25 bonus for signing up, just send me an e-mail a ptyler@tokyo.com and include your name, first and last, and your e-mail address.
Pros: Easy access (internet), user-friendly, great savings interest rate. Cons: Though CD rates are higher, they're not the highest.
I've had this account for about a year now, and I love how $$$ movement's so easy with this account. Even better is the interest! I can't explain the things I get to do monthly for just letting my $$$ sit there in my savings account!
Even better, I referred my brother to use ING in that he's currently living in Japan. He opened up a CD and maybe even a savings account too. This is great for him in that he doesn't physically have to be @ an American bank once his CD matures. He can add more $$$ or close it up from home.
Finally, the one time I had to call customer service, the representative was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful.
My experience w/ ING has been nothing but great so far. I expect this to continue.
ING DIRECT - Feb 06 opening acct offer update by gleasonjim ,Feb 19 '06
Pros: $25 bonus with no min deposit to open Cons: seems too good to be true - but it is for real
Contrary to some recent reviews noting a $250 min deposit to get the $25 bonus when opening a new account, according to the offer I just got in the mail, there is no minimum to get that $25 bonus now.
It seemed too good to be true and with the personal information requested in that account opening form, we were reluctant to "bite" - but then found this opinion web site and given the excellent experiences shared here, are now opening up our account. Thanks for sharing here.
Pros: Easy to use, great customer service. Good interest, no minimum balance. Cons: External Bank account, 2-3 days to transfer funds.
ING Direct is great, no minimum balance, great interest (that keeps going up).
The website is easy to navigate.
Good Customer service? Yes I said "good customer service".
I had a problem with logging on to my account I called and it was fixed in a few minutes. They were very helpful and professional.
There are is a down side, you need an external checking account and it takes 2-3 days to transfer funds from ING to your checking account.
In my opinion though it's worth it as the interest is great compared to regular banks and they actually seem to care about serving the customer.
Pros: Competitive rate and low closing costs Cons: Can disapprove your loan any time and terrible customer service if you have problems
This is specifically about the ING Direct Mortgage service, not savings. I had to get a loan for a downtown condo quickly and I had no problem getting the initial approval from ING Direct. THREE weeks later, they sent me a letter saying that they do not provide a mortgage for a mixed use building (commercial and residential). This was NEVER mentioned in any of the conversations I had with their representatives and it was not one of the conditions they mentioned when they first sent me the offer letter.
I then had to scramble to find a new lender (inconvenience), the interest rate has gone up, and there were potential fees for closing late. When I tried to complain, they only gave me an e-mail address, and it took 2 weeks for them to respond back. Of course, they said there was nothing they could do.
If you want to get a loan for a traditional, detached home, and don't see any income/credit issues, ING Direct will probably work for you. If not, make sure you have a back up plan and don't expect any customer service with any problems.
Pros: Easy to setup account. All is electronic transfer. Cons: Customer service is no good. Your rate isn't tied to anything only INGs discretion.
There rate you get stays the same. Fed lowers rate 1/2 point recently and ING states that they will not lower your variable rate on the HELOC. But, new HELOC are advertised for 1/2 point less.
In fact, ING states that there HELOC rate is market driven (i.e. whatever they want to give you). So, if you lock in and fed reduces rates - your rate could go up.
Pros: No fees, $1 to start, competitive rates Cons: Money is not available instantly (about 5 day wait)
The ING Direct Orange Savings Account works as advertised, with as little as $1 to open instantly giving you a $25 dollar credit. Rates are currently 3% and the only other savings account that seems to compete on these features is the Capital One High Yield Savings Account currently at 3.15% but no $25 startup credit.
ING - much better savings return by sailinfo ,Apr 19 '05
Pros: Simple interface, easy savings plan, auto deductions, Cons: remembering the account number for log in.
I got hooked with the $25 sign on bonus and the, much higher interest rate than Bank of America. I've consolidated much of my savings account's with ING and love it, much better than my company Credit Union. Let me know if you need a referral bonus link. thompson.justin@verizon.net - you get $25 for signing on with one of these.

I just opened a savings account with ING Direct and earned a referral bonus of $25. The ING Orange savings account interest rate is currently 3% (the only other savings account that seems to compete is the Capital One High Yield Savings Account currently at 3.15%, but no $25 startup credit).

consistently exceeding expectations by bstpierre ,Aug 28 '06
Pros: great rates; great service; easy to use website Cons: too much direct mail
I have two savings accounts, CD, and now a mortgage through ING direct. If they offered checking, I'd divorce my bank immediately.
ING direct is a completely different banking experience. The website is easy to use, fast loading, and has never been unavailable. Every time I call, a human being is on the other end of the line right away at the beginning of the call.
My mortgage refinance was a relatively easy process, though there was substantially more paperwork to deal with at the closing than I've experienced in the past.
I've never felt used or deceived by any of their marketing material -- when they say "free" they really mean it. And in addition to low fees, they have some of the best rates around.
My only complaint is that they're a little over-communicative. I'd prefer to be able to shut off the never ending flow of direct mail into my mailbox. (I called, but they said they couldn't really stop it because they get names from external sources and they don't merge with their customer lists.)
Pros: $25 Account Opening Bonus,
Easy to open an account,
Easy to use Cons: No actual bank you can walk into,
No direct statements (web downloads only)
I just opened my account with ING Direct after a couple of days of research. I found that they had the best APY for the service that they provide. 2% is way better than the .49% that I'm currently getting. I had no problems whatsoever in opening my account and as a bonus, I learned that they have direct statements with MS Money!!!! So few banks have this feature. I plan to use them a lot. If you want feedback or need a referral to get the $25 to open an account, please email me at kks@mountainwerks.org.
01/03/2004 update:
Ok, I had this account for a few months now and I have deposited, direct deposited from my paycheck and withdrawn money with no problems whatsoever. In November they removed the "direct statements" download feature and that was a disappointment, but since I didn't expect that anyway, I'm still very happy. I love the 2% I'm getting as well as the bonuses!
I still have more referrals left, so if you find this information useful and would like to get a $25 bonus for opening an account, let me know and I can send you a link! kks@mountainwerks.org
