Beware!!
by sar432 ,Nov 30 '07
Pros: NONE
Cons: Everything
The worst service available . I have been waiting for 10 days to have a matured CD transferred to my Wachovia checking account. They don't return emails and you have to wait up to an hour for customer service. I was told today to wait 3 to 5 more days. I reccommend putting your money in you mattress rather than put up with ING problems!

Idiots INC
by sammat ,Oct 19 '07
Pros: $25 buck signon is cool - take it
Cons: Every thing else - there rates aint the best anymore - they appear totally unprofessional.
ING direct is totally unprefessional . $25 bonus et al apart - there customer services completely sucks . They seem to be poor bankers - they sent an overdraft into my primary accoung and were willing to let go of my account but not revert it - knowing fully well that it was there fault. The customer support was horribly rude and it appeared as if they took a cue from one of the old time moneylenders books (ah - charges once made will not be reverted no matter what misinterpretation happens at our end ). All i had to do was request my primary bank to revert the charges - they did it -no questions asked. But ING was rude, stubborn and unprofessional.

This bank is Legit
by brewsky ,Mar 18 '05
Pros: Great rate, chance to earn bonuses, FDIC insured, very secure banking.
Cons: Small delay on withdrawels and deposits.
This bank has been solid since I opened up two months ago. My savings account actually earns interest now. There are many pros to ING Orange savings and only a one real con. If you need to constantly be dipping into your savings then ING is not for you. If you are putting it in there to stay, then you can make an awesome APR of 2.8 %!

Unfortunately I didn't get the 25 dollar referrel bonus when I opened my account. But if anyone is interested, I have plenty of referrels left. 25 bucks free just to open one up, and there really are no strings. ING is banking on the fact that their service is better than other banks and once people open they will love it. I know that has been the case with me.

Seriously people, this is a smart choice if you really want to save, and even if not, get your 25 buck bonus. There are no minimums to open!

Anyone who is interested about being referred, contact me at jonnycoch@hotmail.com. I am happy to hook anyone up.

Makes traditional savings accounts obsolete
by darkstar7 ,Jan 24 '08
Pros: Easy-to-use website, deposits backed by very safe, global giant ING bank (and FDIC)
Cons: Interest rate not especially competitive
I've had an ING Orange online savings accout for two years. (I do not have the new Electric Orange checking account.) I find the website very easy to use, and the few times that I have had to call customer service, I was treated well. Ok, there was one time that I complained via e-mail about the non-competitive interest rate, and I got a prompt, polite, but somewhat B.S. reply that ING customers are willing to sacrifice a little interest in order to bank at wonderful ING. Yah, right, I thought. But there is a grain of truth to that, which is why I haven't switched so far. But I am seriously considering switching to HSBC Direct or one of the other higher-interest online banks.

Orange Savings Account
by maj2155 ,Apr 16 '07
Pros: Great rates!
Cons: 2 day delay in transferring money- but that really isn't a big con.
I don't remember exactly how I came upon the ING savings account but its one of the best accounts I've opened. Its much like a money market account without any risk. If you are looking to SAVE money than this is a good way to go. The rates are very good compared to your typical brick and mortar bank and the fact that you can't get your hands on the money right away if you wanted to, that makes it all the more better a way to save. Of course if you DO need your money, it will transfer back to your linked account within 2 days. Good for building up that emergency 3-6 month savings.

E-mail me for your $25 startup credit for a great savings account!
by jpark107 ,Jun 29 '05
Pros: High interest rate. No hidden costs. $25 referral bonus. No minimum balance.
Cons: Takes a few days to access your newly deposited money.
I just opened a savings account with ING Direct and earned a referral bonus of $25. The ING Orange savings account interest rate is currently 3% (the only other savings account that seems to compete is the Capital One High Yield Savings Account currently at 3.15%, but no $25 startup credit).

A few bonuses:
- The online application takes only a few minutes to fill out.
- No required minimum balances.
- No fees. No service charges. No penalties. Absolutely no hidden costs!
- ING DIRECT is a federally chartered bank insured by the FDIC

If you would like the $25 bonus for signing up, just send me an e-mail at jpark107@gmail.com and include your name, first and last, and your e-mail address (to get the $25 bonus, you need to sign up using the link from an e-mail I will send you). You can also check out their web-site for more information: http://home.ingdirect.com
Best,
Julie :)

Wow, I'm impressed!
by kksmvs ,Sep 17 '03
Pros: $25 Account Opening Bonus, Easy to open an account, Easy to use
Cons: No actual bank you can walk into, No direct statements (web downloads only)
I just opened my account with ING Direct after a couple of days of research. I found that they had the best APY for the service that they provide. 2% is way better than the .49% that I'm currently getting. I had no problems whatsoever in opening my account and as a bonus, I learned that they have direct statements with MS Money!!!! So few banks have this feature. I plan to use them a lot. If you want feedback or need a referral to get the $25 to open an account, please email me at kks@mountainwerks.org.

01/03/2004 update:
Ok, I had this account for a few months now and I have deposited, direct deposited from my paycheck and withdrawn money with no problems whatsoever. In November they removed the "direct statements" download feature and that was a disappointment, but since I didn't expect that anyway, I'm still very happy. I love the 2% I'm getting as well as the bonuses!

I still have more referrals left, so if you find this information useful and would like to get a $25 bonus for opening an account, let me know and I can send you a link! kks@mountainwerks.org

No minimum. No fees. And free money!
by williamjk1979 ,Apr 30 '04
Pros: No minimum balance. No fees.
Cons: There are other online money markets with slightly higher yields.
I wasn't quite sure about signing up at first but when I found out ING Direct was FDIC insured I really figured I had nothing to lose. ING Direct delivers on what it offers, a simple way to save with no minimum balance or fees. Transfering money back and forth is as simple as a few clicks. There's also a chance for people to earn money both by being refered by a current ING Direct account holder AND by refering others once you're signed up. That's 2 ways to get free money! I still have all my referals so if you want to earn $25 just for opening a savings account drop me a line at williamjk1979@aol.com and I'll send you a referal link.

Cannot Do Better Than ING
by ben_stl ,May 16 '06
Pros: Unbeatable interest rates; straight forward and simple approach.
Cons: No physical branches - but this is the same reason interest rate is so high.
I opened an ING account about 3 months ago, and am kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Such a straight-forward, easy interface. They have a tutorial that explains exactly where they're coming from, and how they can afford to undercut the competition and pass the savings onto us. We're at 4.15% APY right now, and they keep raising it!

I see other people offering links for the referral promotion. Why not? It's $25.00 for you to join, and $10.00 to me for referring you.

If you're interested, send me an email at kerouac_28@yahoo.com, and I'll get back to you right away.

Remember that you'll need to open your account with at least $250.00, or you won't get the bonus from the bank.

Just like ING, pretty straight forward, and no risk.

ING DIRECT: Excellent place to park your $$$
by iccells ,Jun 28 '04
Pros: Quick application process, no minimums required, and very competitive interest rates offered.
Cons: 10 day hold on your initial deposit.
I was skeptical at first at putting my money in an
online bank. I've heard of ING Bank for the past 2 years
already...It came down to deciding to put my $$$ in either
a credit union or an online bank. Because I was getting only a paltry interest rate on my bank savings, I decided I didn't have anything to lose and LOTS to gain.
The federal reserve is expected to raise interest rates
throughout the next 12-18 months. It would behoove anyone
out there to not lock their $$$ into long-term investments.
This is where the ING SAVINGS account fits in perfectly.
The online application is very easy and takes 15 minutes to complete. There are no minimums required to earn the current 2.10% on the ORANGE savings. Plus, the $25 bonus you receive just for opening an account definitely sweetened the deal.

Anyone interested in obtaining the $25 bonus, simply send me your full name and email address to ravenlock70@netzero.com and I'll reply ASAP with the
necessary referral link.

ING Direct Referral and Emigrant Direct
by pajohnso ,May 06 '05
Pros: 3% Savings Rate $25 referral fee No minimum
Cons: None for me.
After reading several helpful reviews on this site, I still couldn't decided between the 3.25% at Emigrant Direct and the $25 referral at ING Direct, so I signed up for both. I put a larger balance into Emigrant to benefit from the better interest rate and a more nominal amount into ING.

My experience was similar to most others I read about. I found the online sign-up to be very quick and fairly painless. They do ask for a lot of personal information, but I guess I've become used to that.

I began the process last Friday by requesting a referral link. I was able to apply on Monday and my ING account had been funded from my bank account and credited with the $25 bonus by Wed. As others have mentioned, the Emigrant procedure includes snail mail, so this slows the process down quite a bit for those of us used to instant internet gratification.

In conclusion, although Emigrant offers a higher rate, it's hard to beat the $25 referral fee. I will be glad to send you a link for the referral bonus. Just email me (PAJOHNSO@YAHOO.COM) with your First and Last names and email address.

Not the best e-bank
by peboru ,Jan 24 '07
Pros: Better rates than traditional banks but lower than other online banks
Cons: Backup withholding, limited access to funds, delayed transfers,
I opened an ING Direct account a few years ago and have been happy with the higher interest rate. At the time they were one of the few that offered higher interest rates. The only downside was that they withhold federal taxes (not sure why they wouldn't accept a W-9 to be exempt), limited access to cash (no atm or local branch) and transfers takes 3 to 4 days but is immediately removed from your account.

Today there are better alternatives such as Citibank e-savings which offers a higher interest rate, does not withhold federal taxes and provides access to cash via checking account/ATM (however, fees apply per check or ATM withdrawal).

About 9 months ago, I opened a CD with a high interest at ING since rate was attractive. I didn't realize that they automatically rollover the CD and interest to a new CD. Be aware that the CD and interest will automatically rollover to another like CD with the same maturity period. You only have 10 days to after maturity to get out of the CD to avoid the stiff penalty.

Couldn't be any better!
by aggiebabe ,Nov 08 '05
ING is AWESOME! They have raised their interest rates 5 or 6 times since I opened my account 6 months ago. They are now paying 3.5% interest on a straight savings account. That's 1.3% higher than the CD I had at a major bank! I have had no issues whatsoever with ING. Their referral bonuses are paid on time, every time. They are now offering a $50 sign on bonus if you open a count using Microsoft Money. What a deal!
