ING Mortgages & customer service by just_ice ,Jun 15 '04
Pros: low rates posted up front Cons: extremely poor service, impersonal, lots of red-tape and fine print,
ING advertises a lot that they will "Save Your Money." I like that they don't jerk you around like the banks and offer fairly competitive rates.
I would NOT recommend getting a mortgage with them. Once you sign the contract you will notice a different level of service and regret you don't have someone you can deal with face to face. If you have problems they will give you the run around on the phone and no one is willing to take responsibility for helping the customer/sucker. A new person will always answer your call and give you conflicting information.
Give them lots of time to approve financing even if you already are a client. If you have a deadline, be careful, as they drag their feet compared to the banks. Be willing to extend financing deadlines or default on the contract

Pros: Good track record. Cons: - 6 transfer out of the account a month. Not a big problem
Being a full time student at UW, I rarely have the money to invest or put in CD due to my semester tuition payments of $4200. Therefore, once I saw INGDirect's interest rate of 2.2%, I was hooked. The $25 sign up bonus was an added treat. You have to get an referral for that so I will send one if you would like to signup after reading the details. My email is at the bottom
The site had good security and all you have to do is connect it with one of your existing bank and then you can transfer funds from and to it online. It turned out I had friends who has been with it since 2001
No minimum investment
FDIC insured
easy access online
can refer friends and they get a bonus, you too.
Final: try it, I bet you will like the high APY and the convenience.

The Absolute Best Savings Program (I have $25.00 referrals) by tonyakane ,Jan 23 '04
Pros: Great interest rate, $25.00 bonus w/referral, Low $1.00 minimum to open, easy account setup Cons: Haven't found any.
I have only had the Orange Savings Account for a short time, but my experience so far has been great. I had no trouble opening up the account or verifying the required information and initial deposits. Setting up the account was quick and easy. I even received a $25.00 bonus just for signing up! The minimum deposit is only $1.00, so what have you got to lose by trying it. When I opened my Orange Savings Account the interest rate was 2%, much more than I was getting on my regular savings account. Overall, I am pleased and excited about my new Orange Savings Account. Try it!!
Pros: Great service reps. Cons: a lot of pass codes
Banking fees were the main attractions for me when I first opened my in April 2002.It very easy to open accounts and the representative were helpful.Interest rates made moving money to ING a easy choice.Banking by phone options is always good for saving time.ING Direct has created options to help service personal bankers across America.
More in my next writing.
GETTING YOUR MONEY OUT CAN BE A PROBLEM IN THE CASE OF A NEW ACCOUNT by aspen10 ,Feb 05 '04
Pros: Easy to reach customer reps over the phone, and they seem to be experienced. Cons: What you are told and what is in the fine print may differ.
When I deposited $70,000 in a savings account, I was told that it would be available in 7 to 8 days, five after transfer, then 2 - 3 to send back. When I suddenly needed to get some of it out, I was told that the information I had been given was in error, a training problem, that the hold on a new account was 10 days plus 2 -3 to transfer. Needless to say, this bait-and-switch made me very unhappy.
Pros: The best rates in the nation, direct deposit, internet based, very secure Cons: none. really.
I have been using ING Direct for a few months now. It's the best savings account out there, offering the best rates (currently 2.20%). It's all internet based, which is something I really like. email me at efalcao@gmail.com if you are interested in getting a free $25 through me referring you for a new account.
--update-- 2/2/2005
The savings account rate is currently at 2.35% I still have referrals left for $25 free, so drop me an email.

I have just opened an account and so far everything has been GREAT! I haven't encountered ANY problems and the customer service was extremely helpful when I called in a few weeks ago.
This is surely better than putting your money in a standard saving account because ING has a much higher interest rates than the usual banks. This is also a great place to make a little money if you don't want to invest on anything too long-term or risky. Def. have a standard checking account so you can easily withdraw money, but if you already have a saving account, move your money to ING savings account!
ING Orange Mortgage - Saved Time, Money and Headaches! by langera ,Jan 13 '05
Pros: Low rates
No points or fees
Rebate
Speed
Customer service Cons: None that I can think of.
My husband and I closed on our first home yesterday. During our mortgage-shopping period, it was quite clear that ING offered the lowest rates and overall costs, but in a way, this concerned us. Would the service be up to par? Our real estate agent was especially concerned that this bank could not possibly meet our timetable -- because ING USA is based in Minnesota and we were purchasing in Georgia and had requested an expedited closing.
ING more than proved themselves. While a mortgagee does not work with a specific loan officer at ING, instead working with whomever happens to answer your call, this almost made the whole process easier. We were always able to speak with someone about our loan, rather than having to track down a specific person. Every representative at ING was uniformly pleasant and helpful.
The loan documents were received by our attorneys 3 days before they were needed. ING charged us no loan origination fees and gave us a rebate toward third-party closing costs.
ING is great - Email me for a $25 Referral Bonus! by dragon0429 ,Nov 18 '04
Pros: I chose this for the 2.20% APY which is alot better than any traditional bank. Cons: The only difference is having to wait a few days to withdrawl your deposits.
I opened an ING account a few weeks ago and I have had nothing but good experiences with ING. When I initially created my account, I incorrectly inputted some information. After I called them, they changed my information for me and I was sent the two small payments the next day. I have had questions with my account after that and I received great customer service every time that I call in.
Email me at dragon0429@mail.utexas.edu for a $25 referral bonus with your name and your email address and I will send you a link to get the $25 bonus.
Good bank. For free $25 e-mail me for referral by weeksjunk ,Apr 29 '04
Pros: -Free $25
-Great interest rate Cons: -security measures can be a pain but, it's for your own good.
For free $25 e-mail me at heishwguard-ing@yahoo.com so that I can send you a referral. I joined ING over a year ago and have been very happy with it so far. GREAT interest rate. Good customer service (for what little I had to deal with them) and a free $25 to boot! The only catch is you can't touch the $25 for 30 days. After that, it's yours!
$25 Bonus is Great! Updated! by y2kittycat ,Apr 26 '04
Pros: Easy to set up, secure, 24/7 monitoring of your money. Cons: No ATM card, site is really orange.
I decided to try ING Direct as an additional way to save since it does have a higher rate than my passbook savings account at a brick and mortar bank. After just a few weeks, I was hooked. You open an account by filling out a form online and transferring an opening deposit from the account you are linking to this ING account. It is that simple!
The good thing about ING Direct is that you can make as many deposits as you want and in whatever amount you choose. So, for instance, if you are saving for some specific goal like going on vacation, and you decide to skip going to Starbucks for the day in order to save for your vacation, you can just transfer your $5 over and there is no hassle even though the amount is so small.
If you want a $25 opening bonus, email me at topwesselton@yahoo.com and I will set you up. Thanks!
UPDATE: ING Direct has raised their rates to 2.1% as of June 1st. While this is just a small rate increase I think it reflects their commitment to helping people save money.
Pros: High interest rate Cons: Transfers take few days
I opened my ING Account 3 months ago and have earned more interest on this account than I did with Bank of America's Money Market. That's really good considering I had 6 times as much money in the Bank of Amer Account. After purchasing a home, we needed to save money and needed an account that offered a high rate. We found ING and earn 2.2% now. It's easy to link the savings to your existing bank account to transfer funds. They are an online bank so they can offer the higher rates and are FDIC insured.
The only downside I see is that for people who don't already have a checking or savings account to link to ING they can't get an ING acct. Or people who aren't able to access the internet. But for those with checking accts and the internet, it's great.
Quick, convenient, and safe. by xynder ,Sep 04 '04
Pros: FDIC Insured
Ultra-high APR
Online access Cons: Deposits and withdrawals take a few days to process
I was a bit skeptical at first when I heard about ING Direct. A bank that offers higher interest rates than almost everyone else, and yet has no minimums or fees? I had to check it out.
After doing a bit of research, I was astounded. ING Direct Orange Savings accounts offer a 2.20% APR (my Wells Fargo savings account was only giving me 0.10%, which is 22 times less!). Plus, they're FDIC insured and are totally online-based.
If you want to earn $25 just for opening an account with them, send your first name, last name, and E-mail address to xynder777@yahoo.com
$25 signup bonus, 2.20%, online xfers = great way to go by azhaymonds ,Aug 09 '04
Pros: best rates for money market accounts, good CD products, $25 referral bonus Cons: transfer of funds takes a little longer than I'd like
For years I kept my rainy day cash in my bank's savings account, earning a paltry less than 1% return. I was given an INGdirect $25 referral and decided to give it a try.
Signup was painless and they linked directly to my original bank account, which made transfer of funds between the two accounts easy online.
I really have no complaints and am glad that I switched my savings to ING.
