Pros: It was easy to sign up and the interest rate is higher than most. Cons: Unacceptable website downtime.
I've only tried to access my account 3 times since I opened it a few months ago. Two out of three of those times that part of their website was down while they were "improving my web experience" or "upgrading"! No other explanation (like when it would be back up) was available. So this time I tried calling their automated phone service and that too had a recording saying it was temporarily unavailable. This is unacceptable and if I can ever get back to my account or talk to someone there I'm going to close the account. Of course the sales page on their web site is available and working just fine.

Pros: Liquidity and high interest rate compared to traditional savings accounts and short-term CD's Cons: Holds on deposits and withdrawals
I had a sum of money that I wanted to hold until I am ready to buy a house next year, and I wanted to put it somewhere that would earn me a decent rate of interest and allow some liquidity with minimal penalty. ING was the place. I was a little wary of dealing with an online bank, but with so many positive reviews, and the ability earn interest and to access my money without penalties, I was convinced. Probably the biggest drawback to liquidity is the transfer period from the Orange account to my checking account. Contact me at sgoltiao@hotmail.com with your First and Last Name and email address and I will send you a referral link to get your $25 opening bonus!
Pros: great interest rate Cons: slow transfers (probably the banking system as a whole)
I opened an ING account because my banks savings account was subpar on interest. I started at ING with 3% APY and it's already moved upto 3.15%. The $25 dollar referal also go me hooked. Bank transfers take a little longer than I would like (a few days), but its the same thing with paypal. Their website is laid out well and their security seems top knotch. I wouldn't hesitate to put most of my savings in their hands. Plus because it's FDIC insured I don't have to worry about them going under. I say if your looking at starting a savings account with as little as $100, ING is the way to go. Also you can get a $25 bonus just for having a referal from another member. Email me at mp3man@gmail.com with your email address, and full name for a referal.
Pros: Easy, friendly service Cons: Transferring funds takes several days.
ING Direct has great rates for savings accounts and I trust them completely, not something I thought I'd do with an online banking company, but there you go. I like their friendly attitude and tight security, as well as their great rates. I highly recommend this company to even the most internet security-skittish folks out there. This is the real thing.
ING DIRECT is easy money by rytarandball ,Jan 17 '05
Pros: Easy to use and earn interest. Cons: None.
I've read many articles about ING DIRECT and finally decided to join. The interest you earn on your money is about 5 times the interest you would earn with a standard bank savings account. It's easy to set up and easy to use.
I signed up online and within a few days my account was fully activated. I received a bonus just for signing up through a referral I found online.
Contact me with any questions or for a referral link so you can earn $25 just for signing up. Just send me your first and last name and your email address and I'll send you the link.
Get 25 bucks for signing up by alejandrosaad ,Nov 03 '05
I opened my account with ING Direct in less then 30min. superfast. The best part of it was that I was referred and they added 25 bucks to my account. The service is well worth not getting the extra 0.005 interest of my money that you could get with Emigrant direct.
If any one wants to get referred send me an email to Alejandro.saad @ gmail.com (without the spaces). I have many referrals left. With this you can sign up with a 25 dlls bonus, the only condition is that the initial deposit is over 250 bucks.
Include in the email, your Name + Last Name, and your email address, of course. And add that you want to be referred.
Pros: high interest rate, sign on bonus Cons: not like regular bank, can write checks, takes some time to transfer money out.
It depends on what you are looking for in a checking account. The 2.00% interest rate got me. Better yet there is a 25$ sign on bonus if you use a referral. If any body needs a referral, just e-mail me at aznxfenix@hotmail.com.
$25 start-up bonus, great rates, easy set up by bethatasitmay ,Feb 01 '06
Pros: easy to set up, high rates, $25 bonus Cons: none I can think of yet
ING Direct was perfect for me. I'm pretty lazy about my finances and don't have a lot of money. For years I've had checking accounts that payed me zero or near zero interest, just because I've never bothered to set up anything else. It only takes a few minutes to set up an ING Direct account on the web, and if you are referred, you are rewarded $25 for your 10 minutes of work (I need instant gratification to be motivated). The person referring you gets $10. The interest rate now is much higher than anything else I've seen at a "bricks-and-mortar" bank, and it's very easy to transfer money to and from your checking account. If you'd like a referral to earn the 25 bucks, email me:

Pros: $25 sign up bonus, high interest saving rates, opportunity to earn referral bonuses. Cons: None that I can see
ING Direct offers an easy to use online banking system that links directly to any bank account you already have. ING's online setup allows them to offer high interest savings than you can get at makes banks. Transfers to and from your bank account are easy as if the accounts were with the same bank. Email me and I will send you a referral link where you can sign up with an account and get a $25 sign up bonus.
Pros: high interest, linked to regular bank, $25 to open an account (with referral), FDIC insured Cons: waiting period after transferring money
They offer a great interest rate for your money, and you get $25 to open an account through a referral (and the person who referred you gets $10).
The only drawback that I have found so far is that after transferring money over from your regular linked bank account, there is a short period (a couple of days) in which you are not allowed to transfer the money out.
If you know you want to open an account and would like a referral, please email your first and last name and email address to me at velaya@yahoo.com.
best interest rates, no hidden fees by dirtysweet ,Oct 30 '03
Pros: They have the highest interest rate. No hidden fees. Easy to work with. Cons: Must have a checking account in order to open account and transfer money.
After searching, I found that ING Direct has some of the highest interest rates with savings accounts, which means there is no commitment to keep my money here for any amount of time. I've come across no hidden fees and I've been able to withdraw the money. The downside is that you have to have a checking account in order to set up this account, and there are no ATM cash withdrawal locations.
If you would like a referral, I still have some left. By doing this, you receive $25 for starting a new account (and I get $10). However, you must have a referral in order to get the $25. If you would like a referral, then email me at soulflirting@aol.com and I will send you a link.
Obtain a $25 Bonus. Electric Orange or Orange Savings - Your Choice by payyourself1st ,Aug 19 '07
Pros: High interest, secure, no minimum/fee, good customer service Cons: No physical branches, no atm deposit function.
ING Direct is a direct, federal savings bank out of Wilmington, DE. They offer a large line of personal accounts designed with simplicity and value in mind. A low-cost business model allows for consistently high interest rates without minimum balances or fees. Send me an email to mrslowflow@yahoo.com, and I'll send you a referral link so you can get a quick $25 for opening a high-yield savings OR checking. The choice is yours, stick with the branch and get screwed, or join the five million others with ING Direct. Electric Orange offers the highest interest rate in the US on any checking account without a minimum or fee. Check bankrate. I've always received good customer service and their tight security gives me peace of mind. They are also backed by ING, the 4th largest financial institution in the world. Also, each customer can earn up to $250 by referring anyone! Recommended.
ING Direct's acquisition of NetBank.com by bripley48 ,Oct 12 '07
Pros: None that are not also provided by competitors, e.g., Citibank, Bank of America, EverBank, etc. Cons: Total disdain for their customers. Does not allow use of paper checks.
ING Direct recently acquired many of the assets of NetBank.com, the latter having gone under due to their subprime lending practices. An ING Direct customer service (haha!) rep with whom I spoke today confirmed that, in the takeover process, ING cancelled all NetBank customers lines of credit WITH NO ADVANCE NOTICE. (Yes, she explicitly confirmed the no notice part of the preceding sentence, saying that notice was not required by law... or, I inferred, simple customer relations.) As a consequence, Im sure that Im not alone in having had several payments bounced, as well as incurring NSF fees at $30 a pop, plus charges from the merchants who didnt receive payment. To me, whether notice is required or not, this constitutes outright fraud on the part of ING Direct for the apparent purpose of imposing unwarranted fees, and I will soon be taking my business elsewhere.
Warning: Low Fees, 0 fees or low closing costs by sillymellon ,Sep 20 '06
Pros: Started online Cons: Details sent after depost. lost $350 dispute with cc, Wellsfargo who sided with Ing bank.
This is a rebate and either you come up with about $2500 in fees or they are added into the loan, then you apply or hope or a rebate later. Details are sent after you accept. I didn't know what POC (Paid outside closing) meant and I lost $350 dollars!
