When my brother and his wife presented me with the Oster Food Steamer/Rice Cooker as a birthday gift, I was pleased and perplexed at the same time. Id never used a food steamer such as this, and Id never steamed rice a day in my life, ...

Pros: Large capacity, virtually no clean up, delicious results Cons: None
I originally purchased this item after seeing a similar steamer in my sister's home. The model she used was not available, so I took a leap of faith and purchased this larger version. I was really hoping this wouldn't turn into another member of the ...

Pros: Works quickly, easily cleaned. Cons: None so far!
I've used this to cook 3 things so I may add some to this review later. First batch - a pound of whole (ends nipped off) green beans. I cooked them for 15 minutes and took them off of the steamer and let them sit so they wouldn't continue to be ...

Died in less that a year
by emargerum ,Jan 08 '07
Pros: Able to steam rice & vegetables successfully. Cons: Had to use two containers to steam rice and was more complicated than necessary.
This steamer was fine until it died. My last one worked for about seventeen years, this one died in less than one. I'm looking for a better product.

LOVE IT!
by opnskye ,Jul 30 '06
Pros: Cooks multiple foods; almost as easy as a microwave; keeps foods moist; healthy cooking. Cons: Maneuvering the different tiers while cooking can be awkward and dangerous.
I truly love this steamer. Who would have known that cooking healthy could be so easy.
This steamer works great. I use it all the time. Even cooks up hard boiled eggs and with just a turn of the dial. Fabulous!
While the three tier option is nice and convenient --it is one of the main reasons i bought this particular steamer-- sometimes it is awkward to use when different foods are being cooked that need different cooking times. This is especially true when one of the foods being cooked is rice. The largest tier is the only one that can accommodate the container to cook rice and this tier can only be used on the bottom of the stack. This makes it not only awkward when having to maneuver around the different tiers but dangerous in that it is risky for steam burns.
But all of this is no matter because this steamer is awesome and well worth the money spent for it.
