good for steaming- but rice, that's another story by rippon ,Oct 09 '06
Pros: Timer setting, large basket size, many levels of baskets for multiple items Cons: Can't make rice with it!
This product is great for vegetables, crab legs and anything that you would like to steam, but I have not made rice in it correctly as of yet. I've even emailed the company and still with their proportions I'm cooking the rice an hour and its still not done (heck on the stove it takes only 25 min. max!, so why would I use this product?). I do like that the steamer allows for a "setting" of time, it turns off with the timer, so for example, you can set it to cook for 15 min and it will automatically turn off after that. I had bought this thinking it was a 2 in 1 product and if it wasn't for my husband I would have sold it in a garage sale a long time ago (but he loves the steamer part). I'd make due with a large pan and a steamer basket, but for his sake I'll keep this around- but only for steaming.
Do not buy this if you are steaming rice by acdrea ,Jul 14 '07
Pros: This machine was awful to use! There is not ANY pros to this machine Cons: Did not work for me at all. Imagine speding 2 1/2 hours waiting for rice!
I bought this product this week, and needed to make some steamed rice for my allergy-ridden dog. Started it exactly the way it said to do rice, and 2 hours later,(it was suppsed to take 45 minutes, the rice hadn't even been touched by the steam. The rice was still in its original form! I was burned not only on the usage of the top, but also burned by buying this machine! It gets a complete hands down in rice cooking!
