Cons: No wireless or bluetooth. Limited battery life with audio use.
If I were a poet, I would write a sonnet about my Tungsten E. I can't live without it. I bought it 2 1/2 years ago because it was cheap, about $199 at the time, before the Tungsten E2 came out. The longer I have it, the more uses I find for it! I ...

This is a nifty little device. I bought it because I wanted something to organize my life and use for occasional schoolwork. This is an update of a previous review. I received a few comments on that review and I wanted to address at least some of ...

Ok, but wish it were better.

by carpet777 , Oct 26 '04
Pros: Nice feel, handsome, user friendly, hot sync very easy.
Cons: As stated, you DO NOT have any MS Office software included or available.
I'm essentially a first time Palm user. I wanted two things from a handheld. One, that it had good organizing tools, mainly contacts and so forth. Two, that I could use my Excel spreadsheets in the field with the handheld. I really didn't care about ...

The Ultimate PDA for only $200!!!

by profetfr , Jun 23 '04
Pros: 320 x 320 hi res display, external speaker, Fast 127mhz ARM Processor, sleek lightweight design
Cons: No universal connector, No Bluetooth or Wi-Fi
The Palm Tungsten E is the ultimate in personal organization. Since I work at Radio Shack and have owned my Tungsten E for about 4 months now, I can honestly say that the Tungsten E offers plenty of bang for the buck! We always try out all the PDA's we ...

Made a Palm Believer Out of Me!

by imaworkaholic , Dec 17 '03
Pros: Light, VERY thin, and room for lots of applications.
Cons: Sometimes freezes up for no apparent reason.
I LOVE this thing. I initially got it on a 2-week trial period and the salesman told me if I didn't love it, I could bring it back. I chuckled just knowing it would take me less time than that to hate it. I'd never like Palm PDAs. I always found them ...

Fair share of quality problems

by eurofire , Jan 29 '04
Pros: Beautiful screen, lots of software, excellent for taking notes
Cons: No universal connecter, crashes occasionally, quality problems, slow at synchronizing
I actually bought mine off ebay. Therefore, I didn't get a warranty of any sort! It was slightly used, but fully operational. PalmOne was not very helpful when I asked them if I could buy the software CD off of them since the software CD wasn't ...

Great PDA, for the first 6 months...
by cagcooper ,Aug 21 '05
Pros: Inexpensive color PDA when purchased.
Cons: Battery life stinks!
My husband bought me a Tungsten E for Christmas. I was so excited (it was my first). Unfortunately, by early summer the battery was dying within hours of recharging and actually resetting the Palm, so a "re-load" was required from my PC. Now, due to lack of battery life, I don't use it anymore. I'm very disappointed and am not sure if I will purchase another Palm product.

Disappointing after a year
by weightymay ,Aug 20 '05
Pros: Light, good color
Cons: Warranty is only for 90 days.
I must say that I love everything about this PDA except the warranty that Palm offers. It is only for 90 days. I purchased this in April 2004 and it is completely dead. Palm will see what's wrong with it and fix it for $125.
Other than that I love everything about it but when it is dead, it is of no use to me...
Contemplating research for a Sony or another brand that will have a better hardware warranty....

Very nice, but I'm glad I paid only $99
by gbruner ,Aug 20 '04
Pros: Hi res screen, tons of memory, fast processor, quality built
Cons: Battery life. Can't get it replaced for less than paid for unit. 90 day warrantee.
This PDA has served me very well for the time it lasted. I've taken volumes of notes and stored tons of data. The quality of the unit, from the high res screen to the construction is quite high for an economy unit. I've had very few issues with it. I don't particularly like Grafitti 2, but there's no getting around that.

The warrantee time is abysmal. 90 days? Mine is less than one year old and the battery is already dead. The battery has been the biggest issue from the start. I can barely run if for a few hours before I have to recharge it again. Now that it's dead, I can't find anyone who will replace it for less than what I bought it for. (I got it as a returned model for only $99). I'm just relieved that I didn't pay full price for it.

I'm not so sure I'm going to rely on PDAs anymore.

My first PDA - I love it
by nickcage ,Jul 25 '04
Pros: plays mp3's
Cons: none that i can find
What a great machine. I needed something to get rid of all those scraps of paper in my pockets, which could get lost so easily. I found the Tungsten E. As an added bonus, it can play mp3's and It uses SD cards which coincidentally my digital camera uses, so i can take pics and see if they look ok on the palm, as it's hard to tell on the tiny LCD viewfinder on the camera.

Palm fan no more
by jmanjman ,Aug 17 '04
Pros: The Palm OS is far superior to any other PDA.
Cons: Quality control.
The Tungsten E is my fifth Palm over the years - Pilot, III, V, & Vx. I loved them all. My Tungsten E, as well as my son's Tungsten E, is a major disappointment. The quality of the equipment is horrible. Soon after I bought it the on/off button because almost unusable. Now, I can hardly get it to recognize graffiti. I have to press so hard that I know its going to soon damage the screen. Palm Support? Don't bother. I was an early fan and promoter of Palm products. No more.

BIG Disappointment - Don't buy
by sdudding ,Jun 01 '04
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Cheap, Warranty
At first I thought, 'what a great deal!' I was initially pleased with my Tungsten E. Then a month out of warranty my power switch/button started malfunctioning. I called Palm tech support and was told the Tungsten E is the only Palm that has this 90 day warranty, and I should try doing a hard reset. After attempting 8 hard resets I called them back to tell them that I could get it to work. They told me I could send it back to them and for $125.00 they would repair it for me. That would bring the cost of my out-of-warranty product to $304.00. Think twice before buying this product.

Best of the Basics
by Lyraciana ,Dec 20 '03
Pros: Rechargeable Battery, Full Color Screen, MP3 capability, Secure Digital Expansion Slot, slim design
Cons: Battery Replacement is pricey, processor speed is slower than others.
The Palm Tungsten E is one of the best PDA's for the casual user. This powerful unit has 32 MB of internal memory, enough to store large amounts of information as well as add on programs and files. Palm has designed yet another expandable PDA for easy upgrades through a Secure Digital Media slot. This PDA has full color bright enough to please any user and create an excellent picture on the screen. The unit contains a rechargeable lithium ion battery to avoid the issue of replacing batteries. The unit also comes with a built in MP3 player to download your favorite song titles for the user who needs a little entertainment in their palm. The Palm software also comes with the Documents to Go software to create and download applications from your favorite Microsoft applications such as MS Word and MS Excel. This PDA is a wonderful buy for the basic user and would be an excellent recommendation for any buyer.

PALM Tungsten E
by briard6 ,Jul 27 '04
Pros: Size and screen image quality.
Cons: UNRELIABLE, very short 90-day warranty (they must know of the problems).
Great machine. Great looks and screen, small and discrete. HOWEVER, immediately after 90 day warranty expired, machine began to blink and click and would not obey any input, including "power off." Resetting machine simply brought it back to the same mode.

Calling Palm is fruitless. The cost of technical support is $25, and the "flat rate" repair cost of $125 approaches the cost of a new machine.

This machine is clearly not reliable and "not ready for prime time." It has permanently changed my opinion of Palm for the worse.

What a product!!!
by muego ,Dec 27 '04
Pros: The price Vs the applications
Cons: Short warranty (3 months)
Let me say this thing, Palm Tungsten E is the only PDA that can give you everything that you are looking for. Before this one, I’ve had a M515 and you just can’t compare these 2.

One of my favorite application on the Tungsten E is the free One Player that came with it. You just select your favorite songs and synchronize with you pc. If you can also buy a 512 or 1 Gb SD card with it, you will be in business for good.

Also, there are tons of cheap programs that you can buy (Kinoma player) that let you plays movies on your palm.

Pros: Size, ease of use, great
Cons: Recognition of expansion

Tungsten e is amazing
by damelasalsa ,Apr 06 '07
Pros: backlit screen (can use in poorly lit areas), customizeble shortcut buttons,
Cons: not bluetooth capable (infrared takes an eternity to transfer files)
This is my first experience with a handheld, and I can't beleive how useful it is for me. I did a good amount of researching on the internet comparing and contrasting several models before settling on this one. The tungsten e is great for a beginner because of it's ease of use, nice color screen, and good amount of memory (about 28MB).
Thanks Palm.

Fantastic Palm product; can't live without it
by bpbatch1 ,Mar 20 '06
Pros: Try wrestling this away from your significant other after loading Bejeweled.
Cons: Battery life, like every portable computing device, can be improved. Headphone port occasionally sticks.
I'm not sure why I asked for my Tungsten E as a Christmas present over a year ago. I believed my Handspring, which I had owned earlier, didn't have any useful purpose. However, I can't live without my little trusty Palm. Beyond a great office productivity tool, offering fantastic synchronization between my Mac's Entourage email program and my Palm's appointment list, I carry photos of my sweetie, can play music through my car, maintain my list of phone numbers and addresses in one convenient location, allows me to keep score at baseball games, and play games to keep me entertained. After purchasing an infrared keyboard to type at meetings and SD memory cards to hold my important documents, I can't understand why—and I'm a devoted Mac user—anyone could invest in the one-trick-pony iPods. My Tungsten E is reliable, holds a decent charge and hasn't failed me. Skip the laptop and buy a computer for your suit pocket.

DANGER! Buyer Beware!
by loutibbs ,Dec 22 '04
Pros: None.
Cons: Poor performance. Shameful warranty. Outrageous charges for customer service. Simply horrible purchase.
I've owned my Tungsten E for less than a year, and I am very displeased with it's performance for a variety of reasons, but most of all because of its defective battery system. The unit always had a problem holding a charge for more than a day or so, but now, it literally will not work at all after being away from its power cord for more than a few minutes. This, of course, renders the unit completely worthless, since it only works when plugged into the wall. Oh, and by the way, Palm sells this product with only a 3 month warranty (as opposed to their usual 12 month warranty). But don't worry, their phone operators will be happy to speak to you about any problems you might have for a standard $25 fee. I will never buy Palm products again, and would advise you to consider the same. I would have been happier if I had thrown my $199 plus shipping into the ocean and watched it float away.

Battery Flame Out
by mcdavidst ,Mar 21 '05
Pros: Clear screen, fast, intuitive, good memory, nice design
Cons: Reliability becoming a problem...buy at brick/mortar store
This is my second E-model. First was stolen, but was quite reliable and worked well. I replaced it with a T5 that would not connect to computer. Turned out that the startup disk did not have a USB driver for the T5, and was not available for download from support site. Returned it for another E-model which loaded and connected perfectly, worked great, but after about 3 hours of use the battery went dead and now will not hold a charge. I can't help but believe that Palm is letting their quality fail as competitors drop out of the market. I use my PDA constantly in my medical practice and must have one for ePocrates, etc. Fortunately I purchased this one at Circuit City and can return it tomorrow. I do not recommend buying from Internet dealer with current reliability issues.

Great PDA - Buy Extended Warranty
by jetengr ,Aug 29 '04
Pros: Beautiful screen, memory, software, stylus, Palm OS
Cons: case, power button
I cannot use a PDA with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a camera, or voice recorder. Therefore, my choices were somewhat limited. The Tungsten E packs a powerful punch without those contraband features. It comes with a great software suite and synchronizes with Outlook much better than previous Palm PIMs. It has ample memory and an SD slot for expansion or for listening to mp3s.

The case and mechanical engineering could be better. I am on my second Tungsten E. The first one shorted out while I was trying to fix the broken power button. It is not designed well, as it is cantilevered off of the circuit board without any significant structural support. So, take it easy on the power button or get the extended replacement warranty. That's what I did.

Looks aint everything
by bryn2705 ,Jul 08 '05
Pros: Good entry level PDA with the ability to synchronize with outlook
Cons: Short battery life and limited memory
Whatever they say first impressions count and as such the Palm Tungsten E really catches the eye. On looks alone this is a winner, but who buys a PDA on looks. Having previously owned (and enjoyed)the impressive T3 I was disappointed by the Es relatively poor memory capacity and by the lack of blue tooth, surely a staple by now. Gone also the robust and very useful docking station, synchronization is now an adequate mini usb cable. However for around Ł150 your getting a Palm that looks the part, if what you really want is a diary and address book then look no further.

Convenient PDA, decent price.
by eguros ,Feb 15 '04
Pros: Useful included software, easy to use.
Cons: No PALM connector, need extras for MP3 playback.
I bought the Tungsten E because it was the only PDA in that price range that could open/create Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. Being a college student, that was very important to me. It has been great to be able to write papers, and review lecture presentations without waiting in line in the campus computer labs. Having my schedule and to-do list one tap away has been a life-saver as well. One of the best features is size; I can keep it in my hip pocket, and not feel conspicuous or weighed-down.

The biggest problem with the unit has been its lack of the universal PALM connector, present in virtually all other PALM PDA's. Instead, the Tungsten E has a USB port which is basically only for HotSynch-ing, and not for accessories. In addition, one of the most advertised features of the Tungsten E has been its ability to play MP3's. They usually gloss over the fact that it needs a $100 accessory pack to do so.

If you are looking for a PDA to increase your productivity, the Tungsten E's great. If you want a multimedia toy, or want lots of expandability, it's not the best choice.

Good Features, Bad Quality, Shameful Warranty
by rbees ,Jan 19 '05
Pros: Good features for the money
Cons: How many of these do you want to buy each year?
In comparing this device to competitors I thought this was a no-lose situation. Palm name, $199, what a bargain. Well, I didn't really even look at the warranty.

After about a week of it sitting without use, I tried to turn it on. It just wouldn't. Soft reset, Hard reset, battery charger, every possible combination suggested by Palm failed, and the only "damage" to it was that it just sat unused on a shelf for a week. I got about 3 months use out of it. Well of course it hardly makes sense to repair it at $125.

My sense is that many may have this problem but it is hardly acknowledged by Palm. Further insult was that on the Palmone website a technical expert practically sneered at a customer complaining about this issue. The experts response "Looks like its index cards 4 u". Don't think I'll buy another Palm.

I use it for work. It is perfect!
by sebkd ,Jan 11 '04
Pros: Very slim. Plenty of programs, great speed and great screen.
Cons: After 2 month of use I cannot find anything wrong!
You might require to buy a fairly large additional SD Card (I got a 256MB because I got to have a lot of stuff for work), but other than that you should be good to go if you're interested in having most of your emails, all your contacts, all your notes, all your key data (word, pdf, xls), your calender and more!
It is fast (other said it's not but prior to getting this palm I've tested HP and compaq super 400MHz... and really you can't see the difference), the screen is superb, it is much simpler and straight forward to use than the Pocket PC.
I'm totally satisfied and thought it would be good to publish my opinion (Note: I've spent $180. So that's even a fantastic deal). Hope this help.

Dead Battery - Otherwise OK
by stephensb ,Jan 19 '05
Pros: Perfectly fine lower-end color PDA. Operates without too much hassle or difficulty.
Cons: My battery died within 3 months, almost costs as much to repair as to purchase.
Overall, I don't have any real issues with the operation of the E, it functions fine, and sync's ok without hassle. However, the ludicrously short warranty, and known problem with it's internal battery going dead make it a bad deal, even on the cheap.

NOT FOR THE CORPORATE USER!!
by corpuser ,Mar 22 '05
Pros: professional appearance
Cons: Forced to buy a CD for $15 to synch with Outlook.
When I had my corporate laptop replaced, I couldn't get my Tungsten E to synchronize with our corporate Outlook. Tried downloading the "latest" HotSynch software from the palmOne website, but learned that the downloadable version is NOT the same as the software that comes on the CD with the device. PalmOne forces you to pay $15 to get a replacement CD and claims that the CD version (that allows synching with Outlook) is not downloadable.

Sounds like extortion of the corporate user (who gets regular replacements of their laptops/desktops).

Looks like I'll have to get myself up to speed on a MS based PDA once this Tungsten E dies. There's no way I'm dealing with palmOne any longer than I absolutely have to.

Dead in minutes
by dalraddy ,Oct 05 '05
Pros: Clear, attractive and easy to read display when there is power to turn it on.
Cons: Minimal battery life. Immediate data loss.
I do not understand how one reviewer writes about "decent battery life." My Tungsten E dies in less than 20 minutes. It allows me to check a few days of my agenda and maybe 3 addresses. When the battery dies, there is no flash memory so the handheld is blank when I charge it up again. Even if I turn it off the moment the low battery warning comes on, all the data will be lost. The charger is cumbersome to carry and is pointless unless I also carry my computer with me to reload all the data. The metal carrying case is cute, but there is no good way to reach the stylus except by shaking the handheld out of its case (hard to do if you don't have both hands free). I do not bother to use the Tungsten E any more: I keep my agenda on my computer and telephone numbers in my cell phone. My Palm V was terrific, but the Tungsten E is a dud: a misconceived product and expensive at any price. Oh, and I have tried the power saving tips: it powers down in 30 seconds and has all sounds turned off.

Palm
by kellys3ps ,Jan 08 '07
Pros: Time management, Very easy to use
Cons: small size may be easy to lose
I am definitely not what flylady would call a BO (born organized). Far from it. I was forever missing appointments and tearing apart my desk for yellow stickies before I got my palm. Now things are different! I have all of my contact information in it for both work and personal - no more missed birthday cards! The calendar function keeps all of my appointments for me. The best part is that you can set an alarm for a certain time before you need to be at an appointment. I always set this function for the traveling time plus a few minutes. An alarm sounds and I know I need to go! There is also a memo function for taking notes. I even put my grocery list in my palm. I can also download Word and Excel files from my computer for easy reference during meetings. The Palm is extremely easy to use, even if you are not techno savvy.

Tungsten E the worst yet....
by rbaeta ,Jul 24 '04
Pros: None. Bad Product
Cons: To many to list. Never buy from Palm.....
I purchased a palm Tungsten E in December. I have had nothing put problems. Today I called the company and was told that the product only has a 90 day Warranty on the screen and digitizer. After a heated conversation with customer relations I was left with a non working product that I spent hard earned money for. In the past I have trusted companies like palm to at least give me a 1 year Warranty. Never will I buy a palm product or recommend them to any of my friend and co workers. Good luck if you plan on buying from Palm. Hope you never need tech support.....

Love it!
by sweetiepie2000 ,Mar 27 '04
Pros: screen is great, nice scroll button, comes with good stylus,software...documents to go etc.
Cons: mp3 capabilites hard to figure out, graffiti 2 annoying, flip cover is flimsy
we bought this palm pilot about a month ago....we love it! Before this I owned an old Palm III that just basically died on me.

It's a good quality palm with out all the extra frills...no blue tooth technology, no camera etc. Suits basic needs well. For a good price..good for the value conscious consumer

I love the color screen...
The battery is internal..which is very cool...I just charge it once a week or so and I'm good to go.
I also love the documents to go software...I can bring docs wtih me and work on them whenever

Grafitti 2 kind of annoys me however.....since I am used to the original graffitti ...I'm not sure why they changed it. Especially writing t's, k's, i's is really frustrating. I think as time goes on I'll get used to it.

Another downside is the flip cover is really flimsy..you almost have to buy a good case for it to protect the screen...unlike past palm pilots that had plastic flip covers that covered the screen.

Downside...if you want to use the mp3 capabilities good luck! I have had the hardest time figuring it out!

Software is good, hardware is flaky
by ijazosman ,Oct 05 '04
Pros: Software
Cons: Cheap product. Power button failure. Sound doesn't work sometimes.
Overall good, except the device itself is pretty cheap. Problems are sound not working unless you reboot. Also, had 2 of these and the power button stopped working. I couldn't power it on or off anymore. It is a defect that Palm won't admit. Be careful of that because after the 90 day warranty, you're on your own.

Everything I was looking for at a great price
by wdharrison ,Mar 03 '04
Pros: All the features that I need or want at a great price.
Cons: Inadequate warranty coverage.
I specifically wanted a handheld with good image quality for photos, lots of storage and expandability and ease of use. I did not want to pay a lot extra for features that I did not need like wireless or a built in camera. The Tungsten E had every feature that I was looking for and more for the right price.
Until the Tungsten E came out I could not justify to myself why I needed a handheld. Since I bought it I use it almost every day in more and more ways.
The only negative is the warranty. After 4 months the power button has become hard to use. With the 90 day manufacturers warranty, my only option is to live with it and hope that it does not completely fail or buy a brand new unit.

BEWARE, LOST ALL INFO AFTER 2 MONTHS OF USE
by superfon ,Mar 18 '05
Pros: Price and looks
Cons: Batteries, no power back-up. Lost memory twice. Inadequate warranty coverage.
I bought it in December, but by February it did not power-up, I though the connection to the electrical outlet was broken (I connected every night as I did with my cell phone). I double check the connection and sync it again with the info I had, but after 2 weeks the same thing happen again. A clerk in the store I bought it told me they had many returns with similar problems. THE BATTERIES ARE VERY BAD. WARRANTY IS VIRTUALLY NON EXISTING. Thanks to the Target I was returned the amount I paid for it.
IF YOU STILL BUY IT, DO SYNC IT EVERYDAY.

by speeche ,Nov 23 '05
Pros: Great screen, easy to maneuver throughout, easy downloads, works with all programs I have tried.
Cons: battery not adequate, bulky charger
I have had my Palm Tungsten E for 7 months. I use it to keep track of personal information and meetings. I also use it to read E-books. Quick response, solid PIM, great screen
by edjordan2 ,Jan 19 '06
Pros: Great response, great basic PIM, great screen
Cons: Ok battery life, a little slippery, integrated wireless would be nice
If you are looking for a simple device that is easy to use and read this is it. I have been Palm user for 10 years and I am mostly interested in the basic functionalities that work well. I like the quick response of the PDA. I can get to my notes and calendar with 1 button push. Although I like the first version of the graffiti better, even through the second version is more accurate. It is hard to "unlearn" the strokes you are used to.

For what you pay I think the screen look great. It is so bright that in the night time I am able to use as a flash light to get around!

Palm Tungsten E PDA
by someguy810 ,Apr 13 '05
Pros: Looks nice, fits in a shirt pocket
Cons: Battery life
I've never owned another pda. I bought this one for the sole purpose of running one application- to keep track of my flying as a pilot.
In my research I read that the battery life wasn't the best but assumed that it would work for my purposes. Here's the reality of the battery life- I turn mine on about four to 10 times a day, make an entry, and let it turn itself off 30 seconds after my last action. I can do this for four days in a row without charging and be ok...However, if I don't get it back on the charger the following day or so, I end up with a completely dead battery. That means EVERYTHING is gone- all my DATA, APPLICATIONS, CONTACTS.
The closest thing to a pda I've owned has been a cell phone (a dozen of em), I've never had such pathetic battery life with any of them.
I'm not sure if this is a common issue with PDAs. I really have no interest in trying any others out. I thought I could get a simple one to do a simple job and all I got was a big headache.

Excellent book page marker for only $200. US.
by newoldman ,Aug 07 '05
Pros: Very pretty device. Clever packaging, lots of features, graffiti 2, calendar works well.
Cons: Does no work involving any type of electricity after 120 days use.
Some must rely on strips of leather or twine to mark where they are in a book. I use my Tungsten E for that purpose, as it does nothing else. It is just heavy enough to hold the book open, when the extra weight of the $20 leather case is included.
It did work somewhat through the very limited warranty period. Kept a nice calendar. Synced well with the desktop and the laptop. Very pretty screen. I kept it charged, not too hot, not too cold. Carried it about in a cushioned purse to avoid any phyical insults.
Warranty up. The need to soft, then hard reset became a daily ritual. No more ritual is necessary, as it responds to nothing. Dead as a doornail. The $20 in screencovers no longer needed. Nothing to protect.
If you have trouble remembering your page number, buy this product. If you want a reliable- more than 90 day- PDA, look elswhere. As for me, no new Treo, no new palm products. I will wear out the Zire 31, but not without hourly backups. Regards

My third palm!!!
by rplaza ,Nov 26 '06
Pros: Great way to keep track of address and dates. Good screen.
Cons: Poor reliability . Ninety day warranty. Not much faith by company
This is my third palm. I wore out my first two but used them for 2 years each so could not complain. The best was the Sony Clie but it is no longer on the market. It used Palm software so it was perfect. The Tungsten E2 is a different story. I have only had it 7 months and it no longer works. Thank goodness I had just copied everything to my computer so will not lose the information. I cannot get any help and was told to throw it away. Pretty expensive - $199.00 investment for 7 months.

Now I do not know what to do. I need a good PDA or will be back to a notepad and calendar. Ugh! I am spoiled by the ease of use of a PDA but am skeptical to try another Palm.

Has worked well except for power button
by rushinmj ,Dec 30 '04
Pros: Size, built it screen cover, reliability, price
Cons: POWER BUTTON FAILURE
I've had my Tungsten E for a little over a year. It has worked very well, I've never lost any data. It always sync's well. I always let the battery get pretty low before charging it. Overall I have been very pleased with it. Recently the power button has quit working, the work around is to pop out the memory card, this makes it turn on. Then set the power off to one minute so that after one minute of inactiviy it will turn itself off.

Best Choice out there for the Money?
by robandran123 ,Jan 23 '05
Pros: Sleek & thin, decent color/resolution. Loaded CD w/ good applications. Fair prices available.
Cons: Exterior finish seems "plasticky cheap". Stylus way too skinny. Battery could be a little better.
As far as Palm OS PDAs go, there just isn't much out there that is a better choice for the money. Some may disagree and prefer Sony Clie models which appear to be a good second choice.
I find the TungstenE to be a basic PDA one wants that offers color, syncs your work stuff like contacts, notes, to-do, AND MS Office suite documents. "We don't need no stinkin' camera PDA". Though I do like the option of MP3 on this E model.

I've had this PDA since December and like it, although it isn't a whole lot better than my trusty old Visor Prism. A bit faster, alot thinner and a few more bells and whistles.
I don't think you'll go wrong with the Tungsten E. It delivers what it advertises.

Do NOT buy this product
by sunshinesak ,Jul 17 '04
Pros: looks pretty
Cons: lost all memory twice, terrible support
I wanted an upgrade for my very old handheld, and purchased the Tungsten after reading a few reviews (and purchased another for one of my employees). I'm too busy to list this issues I've had (both of us lost all memory more than once), and after 30 days neither the retailer (Circuit City) nor Palm would even listen to a request for a refund. They forced me to pay $25 to even speak with a live rep (tech support).

I wish I could recommend another product, but I don't know enough about them. Do yourself a favor and don't buy a Palm...

Great PDA without extra bells and whistles
by reprosser ,May 23 '04
Pros: Easy to use, Good price
Cons: I guess the price could always be cheaper, and a cradle included.
I started with Palm Pilot years ago and use my PDA for appointments, Contacts, and quick notes during the day. I do not need (or want) wireless web browsing or camera. When my Palm IIIe started acting up, I decided to get a new PDA, and after comparing the PPC and Palm devices - the Tungsten E seemed to be the best choice for me. The color screen is easy to read, and the new notepad is neat for drawing a simple sketch or note. I will have to get used to recharging the battery, but it seems to last easily thru the day, and I just connect the charger when I plug in the cell phone each night. It synced up easily with outlook, and the usb cable is easier to carry along if I need to sync somewhere else. I am very pleased so far, but if you want more features (wireless, camera, etc) - this is not the PDA for you.

The love affair is over
by cbr47 ,Feb 03 '04
Pros: Great looking, small size, easy to learn and use, sharp images.
Cons: They won't honor warranty from the date of registration.
Received a Palm Tungsten E in December from my husband and loved it but the love affair is over. I'm not very computer literate but this was fairly easy to learn,is great looking, comfortable and easy to use, with good features. The pros were numerous but a main con was the power button on top, next to the stylus slot, where it got accidentally turned on. But the love affair ended when I needed service. It's been 7 mos since I got this gift and tech support stinks. It needed repair within 3 months of registration but they wouldn't honor the warranty because it was out of warranty from the PURCHASE DATE. They didn't care that I rec'd it as a gift several weeks after my husband actually bought it. Now the screen is deteriorating, the power button doesn't work and it won't hold a hot sync and they want 125 bucks to repair-when I can buy a new for $199. I don't think so!

Dead Tungsten E
by carrieh04 ,Nov 09 '05
Pros: Good graphics Expansion memory slot
Cons: Breaks easily (usually after warranty) Only 3 month warranty period Poor customer service
After 9 months of loving my Tungsten E, it decided that it just wasn't going to turn on anymore. I visited the Palm troubleshooting website, tried both the soft and hard resets recommended, but nothing worked. Can you believe that they then charged me $25 for tech support just to tell me that I had to send it in for repairs because I was over the 3 month warranty period?? That's not even the worst part...they charge $125 to fix the PDA. That's more than half of what I paid for it new!! Needless to say, I've decided to cut my losses and buy a new PDA, but not from Palm. Their 3 month warranty is unacceptable. I've decided to go with the Dell AXIM x51 after reading many reviews. By the way, I found out that my problem is not uncommon. In fact, I read about many, many, many other Tungsten E owners who had the same problem as me. Good bye forever Palm.

Great PDA Great Price - some suggestions!
by recordae ,Feb 07 '04
Pros: Thanks to Palm for breaking the $ 200 barrier with an excellent product!
Cons: Downloaded Battery graph to know exactly where my battery usage was at any time!
I am in Pharmaceuticals and have used a 105 for some years. Lately I had started top have trouble reading the screen on my 105 in certain lighting conditions. My eyes are not what they used to be.
Then came the Tungsten E! Ordered it directly from Palm and got free shipping, no tax, and a $99 audio kit for 19.95.
Very pleased with the palm, but discovered some software that made it 1000% easier to use!
I downloaded a 30 day demo of the product and was hooked by the end of the second day! Now I know why they offer a 30 day trial. Once you use it, you could never go back to the standard format shipped with the product.
The program is called AGENDUS PRO !
Its an excellent program, that I've been using for several months now. Please go to their site and see what it can do for you!!!

Worst tech support ever
by canibuyavowel ,Nov 26 '04
Pros: It fits well a the junk draw with all the other broken electronics.
Cons: $40 dollars a month to use this product.
I have nothing good to say no that I have to deal with this company. Once you buy this unit it's yours. For better or worse. I am experiencing a well known problem that Palm admits is happening but will do nothing about it. Don't get me wrong. It worked great for 5 months. Five months for $200 bucks doesn't add up. I paid $40 a month to use it. Sounds fair to me. Please look elsewhere if you are going to buy a PDA.

Power Problems
by ofcsmith ,May 16 '05
Pros: Nice Screen
Cons: Will not power on
The second day I used this, it would not power on. I was able to perform a soft reset and get it back on. Three and half months later, the same problem. Unfortunately, not any of the resets (hard, soft or otherwise) will turn my TE on. There does not appear to be a solution unless I want to spend $135 for repairs. If you buy the TE be wary and purchase an extended warranty!

I thought it would last forever
by sasha999 ,Dec 13 '05
Pros: When it works, it's great.
Cons: When it doesn't work, your world crashes.
I've enjoyed my Tungsten E for about three years-- upgraded from an earlier palm (don't remember which one). As far as I'm concerned, I would use this one forever. It has all the features I need-- I'm a pretty low maintenance person. But three times in the last three months, I've opened the desktop on the computer and lots of events were missing, mostly non-recurring events, but who knows? When they're gone, they're gone. The first time, I absentmindedly hot-synced before I saw what had happened and erased lots of events on the handheld that I've still never gotten back. I bought a memory card and got a backup program, but twice more at random intervals, I've opened the desktop and almost became physically ill when I saw many events missing. I've not been able to find an explanation or a solution on the website. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the desktop software twice. I'm afraid, very, very afraid. My world is no longer secure. I'm going to upgrade to another Palm, but haven't decided which one.

PalmOne Tungsten E handheld
by blcroft ,Dec 14 '04
Pros: Color screen, plenty of features. Best selection between bottom and top of the line handheld.
Cons: Still a tad bit pricey for middle of the line.
The palmOne Tungsten E handheld is a great handheld for the value. If you want more than the bottom line, but do not need or want the top of the line then this one is for you. I have used a bottom of the line Palm handheld M100 for years. It served me well, but the Tungsten E was something to get excited about in terms of the functionality you get for the price. I ended up getting one for my wife who really wanted one but wanted it to be simple to use, have a color screen, and let here have the features she needed. It had all that and more. Anything better costs at least another $100 for not that great of an advantage.

Excellent m515 replacement
by di2001navy ,Apr 23 '05
Pros: size, screen resolution, price, battery life
Cons: new graffiti system, no wireless capability
I loved the m515 for it's size, style, and function but I wanted to get a newer model with a better screen and better capabilities. The Tungsten E was PERFECT! Buy an "open box" unit from the palmOne store online for $160 and get a free hard case included. A deal!

My Mistake but I learned
by carvava ,Nov 24 '04
Pros: Price, Screen, Style
Cons: Battery, Software, No Dock
I bought this unit to replace my Dell Axim PDA. When I switched to a MAC I could not sync. After further research I could have gotten software to allow for that, oh well.

Anyway, I decided on this unit because of the price and the screen. The price is great for what you get and the screen looks fantastic. It is clear and smooth for writing.

What I do not like is the lack of a docking station option, which I did not realize to after the purchase. I also did not like the battery life of the unit. The unit seemed to burn down very quickly. So in light of that, that led to another issue.

I had to reset the unit to often. If the battery got to low the unit would do nothing unless I held in the reset button.

For MAC users, I did not like the way this PDA synced with the system. There were errors and multiple entries all the time.

Needless to say I got rid of it and have not purchased anything since. I will switch back to a Pocket PC system when they are better supported on a MAC.

Never buy a Tungsten E
by wisernow ,Oct 19 '04
Pros: Lovely display, nice color, looks sleek if that is what counts.
Cons: Has "eaten" my calendar four times in seven months. Customer support is insufferable and unknowledgeable.
After using old Palm III with great success and reading such raves about the Tungsten E, I foolishly plunked down $200. What a mistake! I wish I had bought an old-fashioned calendar and address book. Within 6 weeks, the T-E crashed my calendar. It has "eaten" my calendar four times in seven months. The customer support in the Phillipines is insufferable, unknowledgable and didn't fix the problem. The on-line troubleshooting is almost worthless. The directories this machine is writing are looping. I will never, never buy another Palm product.

Love my Tungsten E!
by mtb4ever ,Oct 18 '05
Pros: On-board memory capacity, memory card slot, ease of use, reliability
Cons: MP3 sound quality could be a bit better, but this is a PDA
My Tungsten E was an upgrade to my Palm V and what a world of difference! This unit has been very reliable and is trusted every day. I bought a memory card and loaded a ton of music on to it - the sound isn't i-Pod quality, but works fine. I toss it into my cycling pack and ride miles and miles listening to my favorite tunes. A stop at Starbucks and I play a game or two, then use the phone book to make a few calls. I keep everything on on my PDA, and there's plenty of room for more. I've had mine over a year and zero problems so far. I keep it in a hard aluminum case because I can be hard on my equipment (crashing my mountain bike with the PDA in my pack has not hurt the PDA any - my bones are a different story).

One year of life
by kieranblake ,Feb 18 '05
Pros: color
Cons: battery, on/off button, life expectancy
The Tungsten E worked great for me for 12 months. As others mentioned, the battery isn't great, but I don't travel much so I could live with it.

Then the on/off button stopped working. Then it just DIED.

$150 for a year isn't bad, but it isn't great!

Tungsten E Review
by karlpmp ,Jan 06 '05
Pros: similar to Palm Vx, color screen is great
Cons: No sync cradle
I upgraded to a Tungsten E from a Palm Vx based on reviews that the E is most like a evolutionary Vx. I'm very impressed with the color screen. I like the idea of a card slot. I'm not impressed with the lack of a sync cradle. I'm know faced with jury-rigging a cardboard & duct tape prop (or maybe something out of wood). I'm left handed, so I really liked the Vx ambidextrous stylus ands cover option. On the Vx, I put the stylus on the left side and the cover on the right. Graffiti 2 seems to be biased towards right-handers also.

Tungsten E2 is outstanding!
by jmwells ,Dec 09 '05
Pros: Long battery life, big color screen for photos, same great palm platform
Cons: none.
The new Palm Tunsten E2 will not disappoint you. Unlike the previous model, the E2 version has a LONG battery life (I had not charged it for 2 weeks and it was still half charged). The design and ease of use are great, and the big color screen is great for photos etc. The Palm platform is the same, but with all the additional features (photo, video, music, bluetooth, web etc.).

For the price, I highly recommend it.

Low priced, great utility
by rastafarix ,Feb 13 '05
Pros: Low priced, ARM processor, MP3 and video capabilities, SD expansion slot
Cons: You can´t use other type of expansion cards like bluetooth or WiFi cards
It has great looking, a 64 bit 320 X 320 screen, a powerful ARM processor of 126 Mhz, MP3 and video capabilities, an SD card slot for memory expansion, you probably wouldn´t be able to use other type of expansion cards like bluetooth card or WiFi card, no modem available.

The BEST PDA I have ever owned
by realorganized ,Nov 19 '04
Pros: An excellent balance of lots of things
Cons: None at all
We have about a dozen different models of Palm PDA's in our labs which we use for compatability testing. So, I have seen lots of different models, each with their own strong points and weaknesses.

The Tungsten E is by far my most favorite Palm PDA. It's a good price, the unit is extremely solid and reliable. The double density screen is nice and bright. I really love the case - I think it's plastic, but it has the feel and look of stainless steel.

With PDA's you really have lots of tradeoffs. It's a pretty small unit and can easily fit in my pocket. there are some things that are missing from this unit, but I think most people don't even notice. No Bluetooth, no camera, no sliding larger screen like the T3. But each of these features has a disadvantage to it and I am glad to not have them. And, of course the price is lower thanks to that.

The amount of memory is ample for normal productivity use and the processor is quite speedy.

This is a unit we recommend to all our customers looking for a straightforward, no-nonsense PDA.

Poor Quality & Poor Customer Service
by r2d2_3cpo ,May 21 '04
Pros: Nice looking display.
Cons: Poor quality. Defective units returned for repair are not fixed!
Out of the box the Task Key was intermittent. Called tech support (NOT toll free) and talked with someone in India. Explained problem (several times) and then received an email two days later with instructions to return it for repair. Received it back with not only the same problem but now two buttons are intermittent. Very disappointed with the product quality and poor customer service. Look elsewhere.

Service of unit
by lndofoz ,Feb 12 '04
Pros: Everything works wonderfully. The color is awesome and I love how things go.
Cons: No travel charger! No tech support when you live in another country because of military
The unit is great. I have no problem with it for the most part. My problem is with Palm itself. I have tried for almost 2 months to correct a problem. I live overseas with the military and they refuse to fix the problem or even to call me back. Both European Palm AND the USA Palm say it the others fault. I would NEVER buy a Palm product again and am considering the next step to make sure no other service members get treated this way!
