What a Great TV!

by allenjoseph , Aug 16 '02
Pros: Plenty of inputs for all accessories.
Cons: HDTV Receiver not built in. Split screen for broadcast only. Blackness issues.
It seems a bit early to buy an HDTV since most television stations are not yet broadcasting 100% of programming in high definition. But we bought this TV because we needed a new TV, and Sears was having a special. Since we love to watch movies on DVD,...

Nice HDTV

Pros: Great Picture. Good Sound. Good Price compared to Sony
Cons: Only 2 Componet Video Imputs, No DVI imput, but that is pretty standard.
This TV looks great. I have digital cable and with High Definition Programming the picture is amazing. I have not had any problems with the TV. It would be nice if it had another componet video imput and a DVI imput for high definition programming, but its not a big deal.

Pros: Awesome picture. Great selection of inputs.
Cons: Needs to turn on to enjoy the Pros.
I bought this TV 15 Months ago.

The first month it was replaced due to a broken picture tube. According to Panasonic someone dropped the TV. The store (Tweeter) replaced it without any hassle.

The 2nd TV did not always turn on. I was told that this happened sometimes to digital TV's. The solution was to unplug it to reset it and then it should work.

This did work. But the unplugging became more and more frequent. Now the TV is on my floor awaiting Tweeter to replace it (again).

Thanks to Tweeter (excellent service after the sale) this has been less of a nightmare.

This TV is going to be replaced with Panasonic's newer version the 34WX54. Hopefully, this review is not the standard for Panasonic .

After looking at the Sony...

After looking at the Sony and Toshiba versions of this 16:9 format direct-view set, we decided on the Panasonic. We did not need a jumbo RPTV in our family room and I still think these direct view CRT sets have a nicer picture which does not change as you move around the room. The picture quality on the Panasonic is as good as the pricier Sony XBR, better than the Toshiba in my opinion. When watching DVD's on our progressive scan player thru this set, the picture quality is positively mesmerizing. My kid's "Monsters Inc." DVD blew us away with its fine detail and vivid color. Regular cable broadcast picture can be quite good depending on the signal strength. X-box games never looked better. We are looking forward to HDTV broadcasts in the near future as this tv is very ready for it. My only quibble is that there are no DVI (digital video interface) or Firewire inputs. Highly recommended.

Great picture. Color was more accurate than pricer, same-size models (16:9, 34") made by Sony and Philips. Toshiba had a cheaper, same-size model, but its color was bland and not accurate. Text appears very sharp, even with analog cable broadcasts. The TV's internal sound system (4 speakers) is very good, but obviously not as good as an external sound system, such as 5.1 dolby digital or 5.1 DTS. Plenty of component, S-video, and composite hook ups to meet the needs of any home theater system. This TV is "direct-view" type (CRT), which means a bright, crisp picture, but also means it is very heavy (172 lbs). The back of the set is triangular, in shape, so that it fits nicely in the the corner of my living room.
