The System Works

Cons: Expensive. No multi-line version available yet. NiCad batteries

Not so great

by technodude , Oct 01 '03
Pros: Good range
Cons: Cheap batteries, less-than-expected functionality
I'm a big fan of Panasonic. Their products are well designed and well built. That's probably why the KX-TG5100 5.8 GHz phone system was a disappointment. First problem: Sound quality. Memory chips are inexpensive, but Panasonic saved money by putting ...

Great caller id phone system for families or roommates

by dave4ster , Feb 01 '04
Pros: Panasonic brand, many features, hi-tech look, intercom, 3 mail box answering system, caller list
Cons: NiCad battery, recording music on answering machine message, price($199)
As far as I know, this phone system has it all. I have never owned a cordless phone before or had caller id, so I got this phone system($199) an a third handset($69) for Christmas. With my set up I basically have 4 phones in the house, 1 base unit and ...

Decent Cordless, could be better.

by nukleon , Jun 11 '04
Pros: Lots of features.
Cons: Ridiculous quiet sound output, bad mic, poor talk feedback.
I have to say, overall I am unhappy with the Panasonic. IT does sport many features I wanted: 5.8 GhZ so my wireless computer network remains unmolested, room to expand to up to 7 handseets (with headphone jacks), intercom capability, answering machine ...

Awesome ..... So Far

by skardos , Nov 05 '03
Pros: Performance, built-in speaker phone in each hand set (great option), great sound, and nice features.
Cons: No clock in hand sets. NiCad batteries. One line only.
If you're looking to buy a really nice and an honestly good 5.8GHz system with some very nice features, then seriously consider this one if you don't mind the price. Bought the system a few weeks ago with 2 extra hand sets for a total of 4 hand sets. A ...

A Seemingly Great Phone System BUT Batteries RUIN EVERYTHING!

by pande , Sep 26 '04
Pros: 5.8 GHz, cordless, intercom, monitor, hands-free speakerphone on handsets
Cons: batteries, batteries, BATTERIES!
When I read the features of this phone I was very impressed. Cordless, 5.8 GHz, intercom, monitor, hands-free speaker phone one the handsets—very cool stuff. All these lovely features AND I could use it to monitor my baby girl. I purchased the ...

Good but batteries are annoying
by treygriffin ,Apr 19 '06
Pros: Pretty, Range, Multiple number redial, Intercom, Answering Machine, Speakerphone
Cons: Batteries
I bought this phone about 2 years ago and it's been working very well for me overall. It's got good range, good features (answering machine, intercom, Great Speakerphone, etc) but when the batteries start to go, the phone goes to crap. At first I thought the handset itself was messed up - it would randomly drop a call and restart, or continuously reset, or just not keep a charge. I found some batteries online for about $5 apiece and all the problems disappeared. For about another 9-12 months that is, until I needed a new battery. So this time I'll just buy a few battery backups - because the phone works well when it's got a good battery.

SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE
by donniceguy ,Jan 20 '08
Pros: Panasonic is a company that STINKS. I bought a full package that STINKS.
Cons: And they would give no support.
I bought the full package panasonic KX-TG5110 base set with 3 portable phones to use around my house and ranch. Do not make the mistake I did. After 6 months the batteries in all 3 phones gave out. So I replaced them but now the displays do not work on the base set or any of the handphones. I contacted panasonic (what a loser company) and they said "sorry". Too bad a loser comapny like Panasonic does not review this feedback to know what kind of CRAP they put on the market. I am a corporate executive who has to stay in touch realtime. I ask anyone who is in interested in this product to shop elsewhere and probably avoid panasonic all together. Their products are CRAP and their customer service is worse.

Manufacturing Defect in Answering Machine
by acu-rate ,Jul 19 '06
Pros: Clarity and range of phone.
Cons: Apparent answering machine design defect causes recording to shut down in middle of a message.
This is the only cordless phone that I have found that works inside and outside of my house without breaking up. The answering machine part of the system, however, is bad news. I'm on my third KX-TG5110M phone, and it has the same problem as the two phones I took back--the answering machine design apparently is defective. On all three units, the machine unpredictably and abruptly cuts off a person trying to leave a message before they have finished. This sometimes occurs within 30 seconds, even when there are no other messages in the mail box and the recording time per message is programmed at 3 minutes. I called Panasonic support, but they couldn't tell me why this problem was occurring or how to fix it. It seems awfully coincidental that the same problem popped up on all three units; therefore, I must conclude that it's a manufacturing defect.

Great phone
by robi99 ,Jun 20 '06
Pros: Excellent quality, well made, great answering machine.
Cons: First unit purchased had defective handset. Easily exchanged.
This is a great phone ... worth the money. The answering machine is phone company quality so I canceled my voice mail and am saving $10.00 / mo.
Sound quality excellent, even on speaker. Speaker capability in base unit as well as handsets. Lots of bells and whistles but easy to learn and use. No interference with wireless network.

Panasonic writes most of these good reviews, do not believe them
by patrick96 ,Jun 21 '07
Pros: None. What good are features if the phone does not work?
Cons: Customer service, Batterys, Range limitations, Poor to Non Existent Warranty, Technical support.
Purchased a base unit and additional four handsets. All of the phones began to have problems within months. Technical support was rude and poorly trained. Suggested battery replacements for all phones as the answer, some lasted less than one week. All of the phones overheated and quit working inside of one year. Customer service would not replace the phones with new, only used phones. Customer service demands that you pay for shipping and send your phones in first before they will be nice enough to send you used phones for a replacement, simply a joke! You would be smarter to flush your money down the toilet than purchase these phones from Panasonic.

All HYPE! HOW MANY REVIEWERS ARE PANOSONIC PAY-ROLLERS?
by mohc_98 ,Mar 26 '04
Pros: Good looking design. All the bells and whistles!
Cons: High Price; Obsolete battery technology; poor signal quality at times.
The Panosonic KX-TG5110M Cordless Phone looks pretty but did not fulfill my expectations of a cordless phone in that high price range. My biggest complaint is that well within 10 yards from the base unit the phone drops off on its signal strength where you become inaudible from the receiving end or it sounds like you are underwater. Also the proprietary battery is of the older technology, NI-CAD,which takes 6 hours to fully charge! Old batteries require special handling in most municipalities to discard. The replacement battery carries the hefty price of $21.99 on-line. I don't know where your other reviewers are getting their information from but the negatives on this phone far outweighs the positives. Junk!

Handsets Break Down Over Time
by nedrob ,Jul 03 '04
Pros: Sound quality, range, intercom features
Cons: Display breaks down quickly, poor battery life.
This seemed like a great system for the first 6 months, great sound quality, great range, nice set of features. Then the display on 2 out of 5 handsets went bad with only the backlight visible. In the last week, another display has gone bad. I also have to replace the batteries on all 5 now since they will no longer keep the charge for more than 20 minutes of talk time.

Overall, I am going to throw the system away and it is not even a year old.

Panasonic KXTG5110M Cordless Phone System is the greatest
by zohmak ,Feb 14 '04
Pros: Love everything about them. Would highly recommended.
Cons: Have had for two months works very well next to my Belkin wireless computer.
I purchased the above system from 6th Avenue Electronics, and was very pleased with the phones and the mailing of them. Would highly recommend both phones and 6th Avenue for shopping.
The price is the best price for the Base, and 2 handheld.
My husband loves them too. Programming them is very easy. Batteries have NOT been a problem for me, and I stay on the phone at least an hour at a time.
This is one of the best systems I have ever gotten. My last system was Sieman, and I would never recommend them to anyone. If your looking for a great 5.8 system, this is the one to buy. And I don't believe the price is too high.

NiCad - No sale here!
by gepkes ,Nov 23 '03
Pros: 5.8 Ghz
Cons: NiCad - To big of a CON for me!
5.8 Ghz great! NiCad? Hmm...? In this day and age with cell phones, cameras and everything else using NiMH or better for at least 5+ years now, using the environmentally unfriendly, memory laden, short life NiCad battery seems like a choice of the ignorant.

My guess is that Panasonic's choice to use a NiCad battery on a phone that has all the bells and whistles is a money making choice. If you have to replace the Panasonic proprietary battery every 6-9 months at $15 a pop that's a hard thing to let go of.

On the other hand it was a good enough reason for me to let go of this phone on the store shelf. Panasonic is a good brand and this model is well designed but it is stuck in the DARK AGES when it comes to the battery used.

As for technology... where's the Bluetooth wireless headphone & data sync, color screen, video games, face plates and everything else the average cell phone has these days? When it comes to the bigger picture, even the bells and whistles on this phone are nothing to get excited about.

Only 30 yards
by cbolland ,Nov 26 '03
Pros: It looks pretty
Cons: Only has a range of about 30 yards
I bought this because my old Panasonic KX-TCM526BXB which was about 4 years old bit the dust. I started buying cordless phones starting with the cheapest(then returning them and upgrading) to this one which is the most expensive and none has a range of more than 30 yards. My old panasonic used to go at least 50 yards. Also, it should be clearer but it isn't as I found a lot of interference, especially if you move more than 5 yards away from the base.
The only thing good about the product is it looks pretty.

Great Phone
by muadib395 ,Oct 20 '04
Pros: Good range, lots of features, talking caller id, talk time
Cons: Expensive, uses Ni-cad batteries
This is a great phone all around. The 5.8 doesn't get as far as I would like, but since I have WiFi I have to use 5.8. The phones last a decent amount of time. There are a lot of features that are neat including the talking caller id. (although for cell phone users it just says city and state)I would say buy this phone if you need a 5.8 phone

The long term speaks for the lack of value!!
by darenken ,Oct 12 '04
Pros: nice intercom
Cons: Do not buy, phone will FAIL within a year!
The phone system worked great to start with and i haven't had the usual battery problems or display problems but of the 4 phones we have one is useless except to use for caller ID. Two others have the same symptoms as the first one that died and that is volume for the person on the other end becomes nothing! I can see it coming $400 down the drain!

Great Phone, Worst battery and recharge rate
by harlan2001 ,Feb 11 '04
Pros: Best Phone with speaker built in handset and base.
Cons: Get ready to spend more than you think for new batteries
I bought this phone last year with 3 handsets. I now have to keep a 900mz Uniden on for a back up. The batteries are now shot and do not hold a charge, and recharge rate is a all day experience. When you spent this kind of money, you should not have to spent another 60.00 for batteries in less than a year. Thanks to all about the battery info !
This phone is one of the best phones otherwise, what a shame !

True 5.8
by jdmyers ,Sep 17 '03
Pros: True 5.8, Clear sound, Synchronized phone lists, speaker handsets
Cons: Unable to preset calling card numbers, expensive
Needed to make a change after installing a wireless network in the home.

This is an outstanding system. I have no problems with sound quality even in the kitchen around the microwave and in the office around the wireless network. Coverage is more than adequate which seems to make the booster feature somewhat obsolete for my needs. Panasonic has put together a stylish looking phone with good features for home and home office use. Actually three phones with this package if you count the base unit as a conference phone. We will certainly add handsets to this unit.

The Battery Life Is horrible...
by drnkmixr ,Aug 17 '04
Pros: Features.
Cons: Battery life and the range is very poor. Price is way to high.
This is my 2nd Panasonic phone. The 1st one was the 2.4 and it would die within 20 min of being fully charged. I thought this particular phone was defective. So when I went to the store to buy a new cordless all that was on the shelves were Panasonic. Thinking the 1st phone was just a dud i bought another Panasonic. Ive had the new one for about 4 months now and it loses its charge within 10 min of being fully charged. Also the phone has terrible range. Sure its got great features but whats the point when the battery wont stay alive. I'm amazed at how good the reviews are on this phone.

Great Phone Plus Cheap Battery Upgrade
by smurfy007 ,Jan 06 '04
Pros: Excellent Range and Features
Cons: Crappy Battery - Which can be upgraded for $20 and not an issue for me.
I purchased this phone to replace a Sony 900Mhz which did not have speakerphone or the ability to use a headset. I have a wireless network so a 2.4Ghz was out. If I did not have a wireless network I would have picked up the 2.4Ghz model at Costco for about the same price but with two extra handsets.

I have been using this phone for two weeks working from my home office and love it. The range is great, and its works great with my headset. It uses a mini stereo phone jack connection so most any headset should work with it.

I do not use the answering machine part of it so I can't comment on that.

All the people who are complaining about the crappy NiCad battery just need to buy an Energizer ER-P111 or Helios HS-CO511. Both the batteries are NiMH 3.6v 1200Mah which more than doubles the talk time on this great phone. I am using a Helios I got from www.batteries.com for $19.99. Yes, Panasonic should have included a NiMH in a phone of this price but this would not be the first cordless I have upgraded to NiMH while doubling my talktime.

Great Phone...so far
by taggergr ,Sep 16 '03
Pros: 5.8 Ghz doesn't interfere with wireless network; built in speaker phone; sound quality.
Cons: Price; NiCd batteries. You should get Lithium batteries for this price.
I've had the phone for about a week and so far I'm very impressed. Initially, I had a lot of interference on the phone, but then I realized that I had it set up near a wall that had a lot of wiring in it (right behind my house's main electrical panel!). I moved the base station to a different room and it's been great! Sound quality is vastly improved over my 2.4 Ghz Panasonic and there's absolutely no interference with my wireless network. My favorite feature so far is the built-in speaker phone in the handset. That's a life saver when sitting on hold waiting for tech support people. Again, so far, so good. I'd recommend it - especially for people with wireless 802.11b networks.

Love this phone
by star7ofus ,Mar 04 '04
Pros: Remote message pick up, clarity of phone, good speaker phone also.
Cons: I do plan on upgrading the battery like many suggest.
I believe this phone is a good one. I am able to pick up messages remotely much better than my old system. I love being able to transfer calls and call the phone downstairs instead of having to yell downstairs for my husband. The speaker phone system works well also with better clarity than my old phone. There are so many great features, I am still learning about them.

Is 5.8GHZ worth the extra money?
by wmcot ,Jun 29 '04
Pros: Full-featured, quick battery charge, Panasonic quality
Cons: Not any better than a Panasonic 2.4GHz phone but has a higher cost.
I have been repairing many brands of cordless phones for over a dozen years. I was quite excited when I first saw the Panasonic KX-TG5110M phone rated a t 5.8GHz. I expected great things from Panasonic. The phone does have all the bells and whistles that I have come to expect from newer Panasonic phones, but in tests of range, it was no better than the earlier Panasonic 2.4GHz phones at a much higher price.
When comparing the Panasonic 5.8GHz phones to their 2.4GHz phones with similar features, I could see no great difference to account for the extra cost. The styling might be a little neater and the battery is supposed to charge faster, but I can see no reason to trade in your 2.4GHz model for a 5.8GHz phone.
Save your money, stick with a 2.4GHz Panasonic unless you have a status thing you need to satisfy.

Panasonic KX TG5110M is a solid performer
by olzab ,Jan 12 '04
Pros: Range, Speakerphone, Multiple mailboxes
Cons: None yet!
Got it last week, works great. The speakerphone feature on the handsets is a real plus. I spend a lot of time on hold, and it's great to be able to set the phone down during the wait. Range is good in my house, no dropouts yet. Also nice that it doesn't interfere with the 802.11g 2.4 Ghz wireless computer connection, which is why I got it. The handset volume is adequate, which was my biggest worry after reading other reviews, but I wouldn't recommend this phone if you are at all hard of hearing, or using it in a noisy environment.

Don't Buy!!! Battery problems!!
by epicenter ,Sep 19 '04
Pros: it has good intentions . . .
Cons: Poor design, Terrible power situation
IF the short life/long recharge wasn't enough to drive you insane, then the fact that it starts beeping with about an hour of talk time left would. Every time it beeps to let you know the battery is about to fail (and your phone sucks) it cuts off the sound to you and to your caller making the conversation frustrating to point of postal apocalypse.

Great product
by davidsir ,Sep 21 '03
Pros: Everything
Cons: Does not associate caller ID with name from phone book
I would echo what other highly positive reviews state, and mention that the complaints about the NiCad battery don't matter - you can buy (about $14.95) an NiMH "Energizer ER-P511" battery (see technuity.com) that is fully compatible with the phone.
