Great Little Camera!

by sailingshot , Dec 23 '04
Pros: TINY! Low light focus is great, solid image quality.
Cons: Too tiny for some people, ergonomics and screen quality could be better.
Let's get one item straight...this camera is very small. Smaller than a credit card. Try one BEFORE buying as some folks may just want a larger camera. The Optio S5I is much like the new Casios but is tweaked for somewhat better color balance and is ...

Great travel digital camera- small & good quality!

by peetranna , Dec 26 '05
Pros: Great value for the money, small, versatile, high quality.
Cons: NONE! I'm totally happy with the product, for once.
I bought this camera earlier in 2005 when i was getting ready to go to China. My former digital camera, an old Fuji Fine Pix model, had a LONG lag time from when i would depress the shutter button to when the picture would take, causing me to miss shot ...

It was a great little camera

by lan8iv , May 09 '06
Pros: Small, good photos, has a viewfinder in addition to the screen
Cons: Lifespan, location of the power button
I loved my Optio S5i. I bought it about a year and a half ago when I decided to try to use a digital camera for my vacations. I chose the S5i because if it's small size and long battery life. I was very happy with the quality of the photos. The ...

This camera rocks! Take it everywhere!
by mdd770 ,Mar 03 '05
Pros: Small! Battery life, big screen, ease of use, image quality, movie mode is excellent.
Cons: None.
I have owned the Optio S (got wet), the Optio S4i (sold on ebay to get the 5.0) and now the S5i.
I have a degree in Photography, have done weddings, CD cover photography, and other commercial work.
These little cameras are amazingly good.

The battery life is very very good, but I always recommend having an extra battery($40) on you if you are going abroad with any camera. I shot tons of pics in Paris and I think the battery lasted a day and a half. Then I swapped it for an extra one I had charged. The image quality is very good, and the menus and functions are very easy to use.

The museum mode is great. Have used it in cathedrals in Europe and in many night-time situations. No flash.

The movie mode is very good because the movies are only limited by your card space. My 1 gig card can take about an hour of movies with great sound!

The small size is key. The best camera is the one you always have with you. If it is too big, you will leave it at home. This thing is a true pocket camera.

Pentax/Altoids super special
by mysteryonion ,Jan 10 '06
Pros: Small, very good images, very good battery life.
Cons: No docking, lite weight is a challenge shot in poor lighting and no flash.
It caught my eye advertised in a Altoids tin, so I bought it.
Over six months of use and its still going strong. Pictures are sharp and clear and easy to load. Camera is handy and travels well in its tin. Caution to anyone using the tin, My Altoids tin was modified to accomodate the buttons in back to allow it to fully close and so it travel very well.

The formats are very good and the compression is not to bad to work with. On a 512 SD I do get 160 shots at full settings. The delay is not too bad and if you learn to touch and wait for the right moment, it is quick enough. Still slower than a film camera. If you have big hands, you may find it too small and your knuckle crosses the front sensor.

My dream camera!
by darcyt ,Jan 25 '05
Pros: takes excellent pictures, tiny, lightweight, easy to use, battery charging cradle is great
Cons: none
I've been carrying this camera in my purse ever since I got it. I love having it available all the time. It takes great pictures, too!

It works very well and is easy to use. I toyed with a Canon, but for the price I got so much more with my Pentax. I was also afraid of the E18 error on a Canon.

I have been very happy with my Pentax and the quality of the pictures I've taken. The movie function is fun, and works beautifully. The battery seems to last and last, and the charging cradle is small and very convenient to use at home or while traveling. It's nice that it is dual voltage for foreign travel, too.

At first, I thought this camera was too small to handle. I quickly adjusted though! It's LCD screen is 1.8" which isn't huge, but has proven to be plenty big, especially considering the size of the camera!

My local camera shop highly touted this Pentax model, and I'm glad I followed their advice.

Nice Small Camera
by pickle57 ,Feb 04 '05
Pros: Size, 5MP, User interface, Size
Cons: Flash is terrible. Very weak with tiny range.
I wanted a small, ultra portable 5MP digital camera and this fit the bill perfectly. Like many users, I use an old Altoids Box for a protective case. Pictures are great. Many multiple shooting modes including a panorama helper and 3-D picture mode.
A big problem for me is the flash. It's range is only about 6 feet. Additionally, the small lens requires the flash to be used in nearly every indoor situation, even with a well lit room. I think this camera will have to become my outdoor vacation/sports camera because it fits so nicely in my pocket, but needs lots and lots of light.

great little camera
by zorba199 ,May 10 '05
Pros: size, picturequality, sophisticated yet easy, poster effect
Cons: download speed, shutterlag,
This is my first digital camera. I did a lot of research and chose it over the Exilims from Casio.
The size at times is a also a disadvantage in that it often is difficult to hold it steady.
Picture quality is great.
Easy picture modes, yet quite sophisticated. In fact, while you can probably use it right out of the box, it takes some serious studying to get the details.
Regrettably, no manual control over aperture, speed(hard to believe since it is so sophisticated).
Shutterlag is bad.
One of the coolest feature is posterization!
I haven't read this anywhere, but the handlebar on the front takes a lot away from the beauty of the camera(and doesn't really affect the grip that much anyway).

Excellent Stills, Poor Movie
by atomic_maton ,Mar 16 '05
Pros: Small, hi-res, user-friendly camera.
Cons: Slow write speed - (can't take consecutive shots quickly) and poor movie mode.
This camera is a compact photographer's dream. It's very small and light, being the same size as a credit card. It's very simple to use with loads of options. The picture quality is fantastic. There are lots of photographic modes that you can choose, including a self portrait (you shooting yourself). The movie mode is excellent in that you can take a movie for as long as you like, depending on the size of your SD card, but the down side is that the resolution of the movie is not good. Also while in movie mode, you can't change your focus or zoom. So the movie mode is really a gimmick, not too practical. But then this is Camera, not a Video Camera.
OVERALL a great compact, easy to use pocket-snap-pocket gizmo.
