Cons: Chapter change & scanning done with the same button.

I've researched many DVD recorders & this model Philips is definitely much better than many others.
Compared to some other Philips models, this one adds a small, whisper quiet cooling fan, and an upgraded DVD drive.
The stereo tuner is flawless and the recording quality is top notch. The editing capabilities are precise on DVD+RW discs. The only slight pain in the neck is the chapter change and scanning are both done with the same button. Hit it once for chapter advance or hold it down for a second or two to fast forward. Not too bad once you get used to it though. All in all, a great recorder with progressive scan output as well.

Pros: Nice looking.
Cons: Not ready to be sold to the public.

Last year Philips replaced the DVDR985 I originally owned (it was in their repair facilities in Atlanta, Ga.many times)with the DVDR77/17. Within 2 months I had to send it to United Radio Repair in East Syracuse, NY as it would not eject a disk and only the factory could remove it.
Last month the warranty expired and within a few days, the DVDR77/17 would not recognize or play any disk commercial or homemade. The set said "no disk. Philips sent me a firmware update disk which when inserted again caused the "no disk" to appear. Philips says they won't
fix it. So I'm looking for a new DVDR other than from
Philips which company I will never again buy anything from.
