Great for an office desk!

by barefooted , Mar 30 '04
Pros: Small size, easy to read display, good sound.
Cons: Bad placement of volume control and tuner dial. No 'reverse' for setting the clock.
I was wondering the aisles of Wal-Mart with my kids last weekend in an attempt to #1. Let them spend their allowance and #2. Maybe teach them something about SAVING their money. My daughter had her heart set on a radio for her room. ‘Ok, how much ...

Great radio but poor quality/reliability

by naatz , Jan 28 '06
Pros: Sound especially the gradual volume increase feature Small size for small end tables
Cons: Quality/reliability - will see if I fixed it, but even then 16 months, good grief
Let me start this by saying our radio is a Magnavox MCR230, but since Phillips owns Magnavox and the photo/appearance is the same, I assume they are the same radio (I thought I wrote a review on the Magnavox, but the epinions search engine did not find ...

Sleep Timer and Alarm, but Never Together
by timjmit ,Jan 07 '05
Pros: Great Sound, Great Look, Great Reception
Cons: Huge Design Flaw cant use Sleep Time and Alarm on the same overnight.
I had been using the same clock radio since 1980 and I loved this new one out of the box, great look, reception and sound...but. After a few days I discovered a huge design flaw. You can't use the sleep timer to put you to sleeep and have an alarm wake you up, which to me are the two things all clock radios should have. If you engage the alarm button, the sleep timer is silent....if you engage the sleep timer with some soft quiet music to go to sleep by you get soft quiet music waking you up, or rather not waking you up.

If you like sleep timer to put you to sleep and alarm to wake you up on the same overnight, don't bother.

Big Sound for a Little Radio
by ishoppertwo ,Sep 24 '04
Pros: CD to wake you up! Good sound.
Cons: Display too bright! Can't back-up clock. "Off" button too small.
Had to put a small piece of window 'tint' on display to lesson the night time glow. (Now I will try doubling up the tint, still a bit too bright.) Also, the alarm "off" button too small and in the middle of everything.

(Initially liked it a lot, almost instantly went back for another, then after setting it up, and realizing the clock digits can't be reversed, coupled with the night time display being way too bright, decided will just stick to one, because it's that good, just not good enough for two. -I'll wait for the updated model.)

Great Features for price, okay Sound, Very bright, Dial tuner is yucky, Great reception
by tropictopic ,Sep 16 '04
Pros: Hard to mess up while asleep, Easy, CD, good reception.
Cons: Too bright - Old Dial Tuner
Overall:
Great product for the price.

Looks:
Looks great. Small, Easy to read, great stereo with speakers angled on the side. A nice clean look

Top Features:
1) Hard to mess up while asleep!
This is a huge issue for me. When I press snooze, I am liable to hit 10 buttons on the top of a clock at once. Many times this will reset the clack, alarm, everything. Not possible with this radio.
2) Easy
Just set one alarm for the weekdays & one for lazy weekends - done. Slide between radio, am, fm, buzzer, or CD for whatever you want to wake up to. Easy to read all controls.
3) CD!
4) Radio picks up really well.

Yucky Features
1) Too bright. I could signal a ship with this beacon. I do not like bright lights while trying to sleep and this has no adjustment.
2) Dial Tuner. If you set an FM station then click to AM, you have to dial to the right station. A digital tuner with presets would be much better.
3 That's it - no more - overall great machine for $
