Pros: Very affordable, extreme magnification, T-mounts available for most popular brands, no perceived pincushion distortion. Cons: Very large, unwieldy, heavy, poor image quality, manual focus, fixed aperture.

Samyang/Phoenix 650-1300 zoom
by badpickevin ,Jun 28 '04
Pros: as stated by aashok Cons: as stated by aashok, plus the slide zoom lock.
A really great review was posted already, so I intend to give my thoughts on this lens in addition to the great review. I had read aashok's review and with the focal distance issues I have, I thought I would try this lens. First off, it is a nice to look at lens. my daughter found a really big weakness, she picket up the lens by the zoom slide. The zoom slide comes in the locked mode, continual movement in the locked position will reduce the ability for the zoom slide to stay locked, or in one place.
This is a really heavy lens, if you are stout enough, you can hand hold it. I do not recommend doing this, it does guttering. I have only shot with it one day so far, it has proven to be rather cumbersome for downtown shooting. I have a Fuji S 2 pro, the built in 1.5x of the camera does make this a huge lens fast. I had forgot this issue.
I do hope to be able to user this in wildlife shooting here in Florida soon.
