Pros: Easy to use, combine Tivo and DVD, no fees, good picture and sound Cons: Cannot remove commercials, expensive
We have seen a lot of things combined in the past few years. Cell phones and cameras, for instance. Or PDA's and cell phones. Cameras and video recorders. It is a wonder that it took so long for a company to capitalize on the combination of a DVD ...
Pros: So easy to use...You'll wonder why you didn't have one before! Cons: You can only record one channel at a time...it needs a dual tuner.
I wanted a DVD recorder for quite some time and when I first heard about Pioneer joining a DVD recorder with TiVo, I knew this was what I wanted. But, then I saw the price! When it was released to the consumer market, the 810H was north of $1100! Too ...
Pros: Ease of use, styling, image quality, TiVo features Cons: No support for DVD+R, price
Last weekend a movie was coming on TV at 3:30 AM that I was really interested in seeing and sharing with my wife and kids. I had looked for it on commercial DVD but it has not been released. Having had a DVD player for the past couple of years has ...
Pros: records quicker than real time - fill up full DVD in one hour Cons: can't copy transfered shows from other tivo, stuck with original record speed, can't customize menus
TV archive junkie here's the scoop There are several great reviews already posted that give very accurate information about the Pioneer 810 so I did not want to re-invent the wheel. I have to say I found mine online new for $450 so I was not as ...
Pros: Great to have DVD-R/RW and DVR in one, we wouldn't want to live without it. Cons: Remote may not run every TV. Shop for discount price. Big footprint.
We received this player as a gift, but it has been a welcome addition to our "family". It has been invaluable for TV watching with our young daughter. It means we can record her favorite show every day and play it back at any time (instead of only the ...

pioneer dvd recorder DVR-810 hARD DRIVE PROBLEM by supermombx ,Aug 19 '07
Pros: IT'S GREAT WATCHING A SHOW WHEN I WANT. Cons: THE HARD DRIVE SEEMS TO BREAK TO0 EASILY AND IT IS VERY COSTLY TO REPLACE
THIS WAS MY 2ND TIVO. THE FIRST ONE PURCHASED THROUGH TIVO;S HARD DRIVE BROKE AND WE PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED BUT IT DIED AGAIN. WE THEN PURCHASED THE PIONEER ONE AND NOW THREE YEARS LATER IT'S HARD DRIVE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT $350.OO PLUS SHIPPING!! tHE MACHINE COST $800.00 TO BEGIN WITH. I'M NOW GOING TO STICK WITH THE DVR I CAN RENT FROM MY CABLE COMPANY FOR $10.00 A MONTH. I LOVE TIVO BUT NOT THAT MUCH. I WILL MISS BEING ABLE TO RECORD A DVD BUT IF THE CABLE COMPANIES DVR BREAKS I CAN JUST RETURN IT AND GET A NEW ONE.
Pros: some things work well Cons: unreliable channel record programming
I'm so disappointed in this player/ recorder because it will not change channels on my cable box properly. If I set it to record a specific channel and time, 50% of the time the unit flips to the wrong channel and I miss the program. I've tried every possible way of setting the system to attempt to fix this error, but nothing really works. Save yourself a lot of anger and disappointment and do NOT buy this system. Look elsewhere for a different unit.
Defective unit - no resolution! by bradolive ,Jul 23 '04
Pros: Great combination of features and easy to use. Cons: Not reliable, expensive and add $300 for tivo plus really makes it a questionable decision.
I *love* my unit, however it has this tendency to reboot every few hours. Sometimes while in the middle of watching television, other times while recording to a disc, or recording a program.
Once, it was creating a dvd, but it failed and would not eject the "incompatible" dvd it found in the drive.
A trip off to Long Beach to the factory only found it returned in 2 days, but with a no fault found note and the need to re-configure the system (about a 2 hour process that I have now done 4 times).
Still waiting to see if they can resolve the problem. When it works, it's great. The only gripe with Tivo Basic is the length of the program listings, but the upgrade puts all of the needed features in - just hate the suggestions.
**UPDATE**
The unit was returned to me a second time today, and they replaced the hard drive. But, guess what? By 10PM it was back at it's old trick of restarting itself. I guess it's off to the factory for the third trip...
Pros: Easy to use, Tivo is great! Even without paying for the plus service. Cons: Can't edit anything on the hard disc, very difficult to record external sources.
This is a nice unit and very easy to use, it walks you through the setup and the manual actually helps you figure out any function you want. Very easy to use.
The only problem is you cannot do any editing at all! It is impossible to edit the commercials out of any program recorded onto the hard disc, so if you want to record them onto a dvd, you're still stuck with the commercials!
This problem also applies to anything you record onto the hard disc from external sources, which is very difficult to do! You cannot start and stop a recording when you want, you have to tell it to record from you source for a preset time! And then you can't edit it!
Efficient, easy to use product. by kenrosario ,Sep 21 '04
Pros: Tivo Series 2 wireless capability. Clean design. Good audio/video reproduction. Easy to archive on DVD-R/RW Cons: No 802g wireless connection. Will playback DVD+R/RW but not record. Larger hard drive?

Easy to use interface with many selectable configurations of audio/video output. Digital optical out provides very good audio quality for MP3 playback and multi-channel DVD's.
