Pros: Best stretch mode, great picture, reliability. Cons: A little pricier than most.
I finally took the plunge into widescreen television after 2 years with a regular 4:3 aspect ratio 45" Mitsubishi non-HD model. I enjoyed the Mits, and it had a great picture for regular cable programming, but I was getting tired of watching DVD's in...
Pros: Awesome picture, better than average sound and cool PIP features. Cons: Requires constant maintenance
Purchased the TV in Feb 2003 for $1900. The horrid glare/reflections off the gloss screen protector are a major detraction, but in the right room (no windows), this might not be an issue. This set stunned friends and family with it's amazing picture ...
Pros: Price, Reputation, Reliability, Picture, Picture, Picture!! Cons: No DVI interface, 2002 model
If you're looking for an unbelievable rear projection HDTV- let me tell to look no further. I previously had a Hitachi that died after only 7 months service. I then found that the larger Wal-Mart stores have this model in stock. If you can't find it in a ...
Pros: non
Cons: lousy product and even worse customer satisfaction
DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT buy this product. after buying what was suppose to be a quality product and after having this product for not even 6 months it went south on me, the color red shifted to the top of the screen then blew the power, I couldn't tu ...
Pros: Worked great for a while. Cons: A waste of money on my part!
I required $400.00 worth of repairs due to cold solder joints and faulty ic chips after 30 months of use. This is not the first one the tech had to fix because of this and Pioneer doesn't stand behind their product. There doesn't seem to be any good opinions about their brand on the internet newsgroups and hopefully they'll disappear into the sunset like other poor quality products.
Pros: Excellent picture quality and display stretch modes, discrete input selection for remote controls Cons: Doing the convergence, limited number of video inputs
I have yet to have any issues with my Pioneer SD-533HD5. I bought this set because it was highly rated for its time. The picture quality for SD and HD material is superb. I bought this TV in February 2002 and it's still performing like a champ. I just had it professionally calibrated and it now looks even better than before.
Pros: Was great during the
'honeymoon" period. Cons: Won't work, can't be fixed, cost so much money I feel like I was robbed.
When I purchased My Pioneer SD-533HD5 53 in. HDTV I was excited about the picture quality, especially on my DVDs.
That was in 2003. Now I could not be more frustrated! This TV has been repaired FOUR times in six months by a Pioneer certified technician. The TV just shuts itself off as soon as it turns on. Each "fix" has lasted 3-5 days. Even the technician is disgusted. He has replaced every single circuit board. Pioneer has been no help. They send him the new "fix" which fixes nothing. I have paid $775.00 in repairs. Each time the TV has been in the shop 3-5 weeks. This is unbelievable. I am old enough to say with experience, that I have never owned a TV that I had to get rid of because it did not work.
Pros: Good product initially Cons: Won't last beyond 3-4 years.
TV purchased Nov 2001 and have had problems. Mainly, a fuse (4A 125V) continually blows. Noticed when the power would come on briefly and then shut off. I have since learned how to replace the fuse (now under 10 minutes start to finish). I called Pioneer and they said there are no documented cases like this and suggested to replace a convergance amplifier (p/n STK-392-180). The most interesting thing to me is that many of you have had similar problems, yet Pioneer says they don't know anything about them. I stand with you when we say that Pioneer does not stand behind their products. They obviously did not tell me the truth regarding the situation. Authorized repair service wants $212 just to come to the house before any work is done. I will avoid pioneer products.
Disappointed at performance of TV and Repair Service by kaseyc ,Feb 19 '04
Pros: good picture, sound is okay, Cons: Repair and cost of TV
Purchased this TV in Fall, 2001. In fall of 2003,TV loss picture. Three months later and close to $1000 in repair costs by an authorized Pioneer service company, we are still waiting for TV to be repaired. Have Pioneer Customer Service involved, but for now I say protect yourself/wallet and pass on this TV.
Not happy with my Pioneer SD-533HD5 by gruss5 ,Jul 13 '05
Pros: At he time I purchased this television it was highly rated. Cons: Now, 3 1/2 years later is worth absolutely nothing.A waste of my hard earned money.
I purchased the above rear projection television from Best
Buy in November, 2001 (3 1/2 years ago). I did not purchase
the extended warranty because I figured paying $2,999.00 for a television would in itself guarantee that I had purchased a reliable product. WRONG!!! I am now faced with an inoperable television (two boards have gone out)as well as an estimated cost to repair that T.V. of $858.00.
The Best Buy Service Tech has even suggested that it would
be better to just get a new T.V. rather than repairing the
one sitting in my home. Easy for him to say, he wasn't the
one who paid $2,999.00 for the television. That would mean that I have invested $1,000.00 per year for simply watching
t.v.
An amazing TV, and an amazing bargain by cgorra ,Apr 25 '04
Pros: Excellent picture quality right out of the box, easy to use menuing and connectivity. Cons: No DVI-HDMI input, only 2 component inputs and one RGB input. Limited Remote functionality
I was in the market for almost 9 months looking for an RPTV that would satisfy my caviar taste and beer budget, and figured that I would end up with a Hitachi, but always really wanted a Pioneer. Pioneers always had a reputation in the business of being high-quality reliable sets that looked great right out of the box. I read in one of the HDTV forums that WalMart.com had an incredible price on the Pioneer SD533-HD5, and I didn't wait very long before I ordered one. The delivery took almost 2 weeks, but the wait was worth it! With four separate inputs, connecting an HDTV cable box, a DVD player, an HDTV OTA tuner and a VCR was no problem. The picture looked great out of the box when the "reference theater" mode was selected, and has continued to subtly improve in the two months since purchase. The color quality is excellent, with no evidence of red-push, and the picture is quite bright and punchy without taking on the 'comic-book' quality that I have seen in some RPTV. Very Satisfied!
