Excellent for music
by olliesps ,Oct 11 '03
Pros: Excellent sound for the money. Cons: Slight hump on mid bass which not really a big deal.
I have had the MM1000 before I acquired the PlanarMedia 14. I have used both to listen to music because of the unrivaled accuracy in the price range. But these are near field speakers which means you would need to listen at close range in my case on a bedside table. I fed line out from my preamp. The 14s play much louder than the 1000s. The 1000s satellites had a tendency to buzz at louder volumes. I ordered a new 1000 satellite to replace the buzzing unit. The new one came buzzing too, so it must be the design. The 14s woofer goes much lower than the 1000s however there is hump which can easily to taken care of with an equalizer. (I am not a fan of equalizers but this instance helps.) The 1000 satellites(in my opinion) render a slighter better definition than the 14s but still an excellent speaker. I highly recommend this speaker because to get the same sound quality on a regular home speaker, you would have to spend many thousands.
