Pros: Cheap at $149 a year ago Cons: Poor operating software. Captions that won't turn off.
I bought this DVD player a year ago and the only problem I've had is turning off the captions. The only way I can get them to stay off is after the move starts hit the menu button go into the DVD options and turn them off then resume movie. This will not ...

NO GOOD
by jajagabore ,Jan 09 '07
Pros: looks good on the shelf at the store Cons: will fail immediately after the 90 day warranty expires
I purchased this for my daughter and she seemed to enjoy it for the entire 8 months that it worked. During the "happy time" I made the mistake of buying an under-the-cabinet one from Polaroid. Now I have two players that are not working and useless in less than a year after buying them. There are over 100 reviews that I have now seen saying DO NOT BUY because the thing breaks the same way, every time. I'll run Polaroid's name through the mud for a while on this one.

Bad Buy
by mswhite ,Mar 11 '05
Pros: Not Expensive Cons: Only works for approx 3 months & then it's trash. Really bad buy.
I purchased this model dvd player for my 10 year old son for Christmas. It has barely been used and after two months of little use it will not play a DVD. It will however play an audio CD (could not get an explanation on that one). When we contacted the manufacturer for information on the warranty of course it has already expired. They only offer a 90 warranty. What type of company doesn't stand behind their product? When I did contact Polaroid to discuss the problem I was told that I can replace this for $110 (not much less than I paid for it) and that there was no one to look at it to see if could be repaired. Why would anyone waste an additional $110 for a new version of the old problem.
Not a good buy at all. I will personal stay away from any products with the Polaroid name on it!

Very poor quality! Do not buy...
by deniseandjerry ,Sep 12 '06
Pros: $179 for a portable dvd player.
Cons: $179 for a portable dvd player that doesn't work.
This is a no brainer, especially after reading these reviews. The sound quality was horrible to begin with. After the warranty expired, the volume switch went out completely. We did buy this for our four year old for long trips, she was never aloud to play with it. Within a few months it was crap. Had the same problem with the closed caption. Do not buy.

PIECE OF JUNK!! BUYER BEWARE!!!!!
by goodnurse29 ,Dec 17 '05
Pros: NONE! Cons: TOTALLY A WASTE OF MONEY. I'LL NEVER BUY POLAROID AGAIN
I, too, bought this for my 5 year old for long car trips. He got it for Christmas. He never used it unsupervised, was not allowed to carry it, or use the buttons (only mommy or daddy could start/change movies). It worked for four months, was MAYBE used five to ten times and the picture went out. Of course, the warranty was expired. I will NEVER buy polaroid again. I am researching reviews for a new portable DVD player and thought I would let people know of my experience. DO NOT BUY THIS DVD PLAYER! I, too, could not get the closed captioning off the screen and the picture quality (when it worked) was of poor quality...not like a DVD.

Went cheap, regretted it as usual (I'll learn some day)
by mikey1961 ,Nov 05 '05
Pros: Price (you get what you pay for) Cons: Quality (you get what you pay for)
Purchased for kids to use while traveling on long flights. Made the flight much easier on everyone. I'm sure other passengers appreciated my content kids (age 2 & 5) as well.
Very basic unit. Purchased at Sam's club for about $140 (included carrying case and a headset). A little bulky when placed in carrying case, didn't fit into a laptop bag very well. I know what you're thinking...why buy a portable CD player when you have laptop? Unfortunately my 17" laptop is much to big to use on airplanes for movie viewing. Can't even open the screen up all the way when placing on the tray table.
CD's didn't always load effectively. Couldn't turn off closed captioning. Returned for a refund and currently researching new players.

Polaroid used to be a name that deserved respect.
by redfrohock ,Jun 09 '05
Pros: well.. it's a portable DVD player Cons: Heavy for size. Works for about 6 hours of viewing time!!
I too purchased this and it has been used for exactly ONE road trip and now does not work. I was told by the man who worked at Best Buy that they try not to sell them ( off the record of course). Save your money by spending a little more on something worth your pennies.
I am very very disappointed. I wouldn't be suprised if Polaroid is no longer a household name very very soon.

Pros: Good sized screen Cons: Doesn't last long.
This portable DVD Player I also found to have a pretty short shelf life. Although it did last more than a couple of times, it only lasted a year maybe. I am not too keen on having to purchase a new DVD player every year. And if people are calling and only getting a response of needing more money to fix the problems, then forget it. I am steering clear of the Polaroid brand when it comes to DVD Players.

Polaroid Portable DVD Player
by laka ,Apr 12 '05
Pros: small but nice sized screen. Cons: Worked only four times. Quit working just after 90 day warranty.
I also bought a Polaroid DVD player for my daughter for Christmas. She used it four times. When she went to use it for the 5th time, it didn't work and the 90 day warranty had just expired. They also offered to send me a new one for $110. Ridiculous. I will never buy a Polaroid product again.

DO NOT BUY-JUNK- POLAROID DVD PLAYER PDV-0701A
by raidernick2006 ,May 08 '06
Pros: Cheap price $100.00 Cons: no durability or quality
Being able to use the unit with the battery only lasted for 5 movies, after that it kept shutting down reading power shortage with a fully charged battery. After that the unit started to malfunction with Ac electrical adaptor,& could not fast forward or jump to scenes. The speaker sound quality is very poor needed to hook up speakers to unit. The problems happen after warranty expired. POLAROID USED TO STAND FOR QUALITY, IN REGARDS TO THE 7" PORTABLE DVD PLAYER PDV-0701A
THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT TRUE. I BASICALLY WASTED $100.00 ON A PIECE OF JUNK.

cheap is as cheap does
by anniesus ,May 27 '05
Pros: Nice size screen Cons: Cheap, bad customer support.
I too only used this player maybe 4 times and first the DVD lid didn't shut and now it won't play at all. Polaroid "offered" to replace it for $110 plus shipping plus insurance. I will never buy a polaroid product again. Poor warranties, poor product.

What a LEMON!
by iamclb ,Jul 17 '05
Pros: I really can't think of any pros about it. Cons: Very dissatisfied with this product, would not recommend!
Right after the warranty was up it died! Has LEMON stamped all over it! I now own a $149 paperweight! Customer service was not helpful at all, offered to send me a "refurbished" one for $100. I think not!

POLAROID Name has gone BAD
by karmatwin ,Jul 27 '09
Pros: Color and Picture Cons: Life of Dvd Player
I bought a Polaroid 7" DVD 0701A Player and was having all the same problems as you have read. Over and over again the dvd's would not load, the player would shut down with the battery or charger. My sister bought one and the same thing happen. She bought another Polaroid Dvd player and the same thing happen. The color and picture looked great though. Not pleased with Polaroid and wasting our money on their products.
