Diamond Rio: See ya later Discman!

by klaxonman , Jan 07 '00
Pros: Ability to get free music, easy to use, doesn't skip, and more!
Cons: Quality of music not as good as CD's.
The Diamond Rio and its competition are taking the music industry by storm. The main attraction: free music. If you own a Diamond Rio, you may likely never pay cent for music again.

The miniscule and portable MP3 player named the Diamond Rio...

I won, I won!

by cfporter , Sep 08 '00
Pros: convenient size, easy to use, easy to install
Cons: MP3s are hard to come by, not practical for most people
I have never really won anything in my life, but one day I got an email from a web site I frequent saying I had won the email drawing for a Diamond Rio PMP300. I was so excited and had to tell my husband. My next thought "What is a Diamond Rio...

My New Favorite Toy

by Rower227 , Mar 28 '00
Pros: small, lightweight, easy to upload tracks, doesn't skip, (relatively) inexpensive
Cons: limited memory
I realized one day that most of my favorite music was in MP3 format on my computer's hard drive. Sure, I had (and still own) a Discman, but it was clumsy to take on a 5 mile run and it skipped more than I liked. Plus, a lot of my MP3s were of...

Welcome to Music-Lover Heaven!

by dnarayan , Jul 26 '00
Pros: It plays MP3s. No skipping. A descent amount of memory. Many additional features such as intro play, loop one, loop all, random track selection, and different preset equalizer settings.
Cons: Not much memory, slight design flaw where the battery disconnects, therefore shutting off the device. (This only occurred once or twice)
I brought the Diamond Rio PMP300 around six months ago. Let me tell you: this device is great! It plays mp3's wonderfully and has a plethora of features. First of all, it plays MP3s on a device the size of your palm. Second, it can handle all all...

Where does the mini-disk go?

by underdog , Nov 29 '99
Pros: Portable, light weight, CD music quality, easy to use
Cons: Poor software
I get this question a lot. I kind of like being asked about my MP3 player, it's fun to see people confused at how the sound is coming out if their is no tape and no cd. I just tell them, "Wake up!" this is the 21st century the age of...

Great Digital Jams Anywhere

by macenthe , Jun 04 '00
Pros: Small, Great Sound, Easy to Use
Cons: Pricey, Hardware is Sensitive
The MP3 is the best thing to happen to music since music was first recorded on vinyl discs! This new format that allows us to trade any sort of music to anyone from anywhere is truly fantastic. Diamond struck quickly with this very nice portable digital...

Currently good price for features!

by anandp , Jul 03 '00
Pros: Light, No Skip, Battery Usage is Low
Cons: Memory Size
I bought the Rio 1 year ago when beyond.com was having the $50 special after rebates. I have been very impressed with the technology more than the product. It's great to get 30 minutes of music on there, but this can be limiting and lead to expensive...

Better than MD

by johnnyblade , Mar 16 '00
Pros: great sound, small, and works like cd player!
Cons: they can give out a little better ear phones.
Have you guys heard of Mp3 songs? Well, I'll explain a little of it then we'll move on to the portable mp3 player. Mp3 is a file that can be played as a song file, it's like wav. file, they are all the same, but mp3 file is way smaller than wav. files....

OK MP3 Player

by steve45058 , Mar 17 '00
Pros: it does not skip
Cons: it might cost a lot to some people
I first bought the Rio because I wanted an MP3 player that I could take on the road. I heard from many of my friends that the Rio was the best MP3 player. I bought the Rio and I think it is a great product. The main thing I love about it is that it...

First of its kind, but I still need to gripe. :)

by bertschs , May 12 '00
Pros: First of its kind. Low battery usage. Very small.
Cons: Expensive media. Poorly designed case and headphone jack. Low storage.
The RIO PMP300 was the first big-name-brand MP3 player available.
There are quite a few others now that came after Diamond's.

The RIO PMP300 has only 32MB storage space, or roughly half an
hour of high quality sound. For it to be...

Aging, but still worthy of consideration

by stchan , May 19 '00
Pros: Small, light, and skip-free
Cons: Mediocre bundled software, Included headphones suck, no real power down
Diamond's Rio PMP-300 is the original portable MP3 player, and while it's clearly a first generation product, it still deserves consideration from someone looking for a portable. Active types are most likely to benefit from a Rio - it's lightweight...

by Requafilms , Mar 02 '00
Pros: Size, doesn't skip
Cons: Little memory
The Diamond Rio MP3 player is the answer to every jogger's prayer. Finally, a lightweight portable audio player that will not skip. But this isn't a product simply for joggers. The Rio player is small enough to fit in a pocket and listen to as you walk...

Diamond Rio PMP300 w/32mb

by ffats , Apr 16 '01
Pros: Convenient; Good Software; Easy to Use
Cons: Parallel Port Slow; Not Very Sturdy
After collecting MP3s for a couple years, I noticed a new product emerging: Portable Mp3 Players. Well, of course I had to have one. After begging my parents for a while, (yes, I am a student... but don't let that turn you away... yet.) I finally...

30 minutes? Forget it

by philx , Aug 23 '00
Pros:
Cons:
DON'T BUY THE RIO. As you may know it only comes with 32 Meg of memory (this is the current standard for most base model). Which means you can only play about 30 minutes of near CD quality music at 128 kbps, the min. required bit rate. (Music sounds...
