Pros: Does exactly what it says it will - and does it very well! Cons: No pocket clip, Basic 32MB won't hold much
Are the colorful appearance of things starting to outweigh how well they work? Not yet, but boy have expensive interchangeable colored faceplates become another profit center for high tech manufacturers! (As with the Palm m100, Nokia cell phones etc.) A...
Pros: Small, portable & convenient. The 64MB version holds an adequate amount of music. Cons: Battery life isn't close to 11 hours and no skipping ahead "within" a song.
A few weeks ago, I was looking to spend part of my tax return on an MP3 player. I wanted it for travel, exercising, and use at work (with my computer's speakers). So after a little research online, I decided to head on over to Best Buy, and I bought the...
Pros: light, cool-looking, easy to use, battery life Cons: a little unreliable, rubber material, small memory
I received my Rio600 a few years ago as a birthday gift. At the time, it was the peak of the Napster age. I wanted a MP3 so badly because I had no CD burner to listen to my newly pirated tracks away from my computer. So I got a Rio600. APPEARANCE The ...
Pros: good audio, nice portability Cons: uh...Hakuna Matata?
First of all, a little note to all the TRs and Editors in the Electronics section, this is my first attempt to review a product in this section, and I will try my best to add what I think should be in a quality Electronic review. Hopefully you can point...
Pros: interface usage, price Cons: durability, ease of use
Although the Diamond may appeal to some mp3 buyers, this player was certainly not for me. First of all, I think the chief purpose of a device such as this should be ease of use in all conditions. That is to say, I should be able to play my songs on the...
Pros: Great price, easy to use, small. Cons: Only 32MB memory, no extras.
Diamond Multimedia has released a formidable offering into the MP3 player market with the Rio 600 MP3 player. They’ve managed to produce a player of good quality with a price point that makes this unit difficult to pass up. Though in...

A couple of years ago, Pepsi had a website promotion, "Pepsistuff/Dewstuff," which allowed trading in of access codes from Pepsi bottlecaps for valuable prizes. A 16mb Rio 600 was at the top of the list, requiring about 250 caps. Fortunately for my...

Review: Diamond Rio 600
-----------------------------------
After seeing my friends walking around with thier mp3 players and their md players, I began to get jealous and decided to get with the music revolution. I knew I just had to get...
Pros: USB Connectivity, Easy to Use Controls Cons: Low Memory, Expensive Proprietary Upgrades
The Rio MP3 player has always been the forefront of the technology is leads, the digital music realm. I was lucky enough to obtain one of these for free, winning a contest held by Microsoft when they release Windows Media Player 7.
I held off on buying an MP3 player for two reasons, memory and price. The first generation MP3 players had 8 MB of memory and sold for over 100 buck. An average MP3 song is about 3-5 MB...you do the math. Recently, prices have come down while memory...
Pros: Light, Sounds great, Never skips. Cons: 32 Megs of ram, expensive upgrades, confusing transfer software.
I got my Diamond Rio 600 about a week ago (so I'm probably not the top authority on it's durability) and I love it. The first think I noticed was that for some reason Diamond Multimedia has become a company named S3... Oh well I'll live.
Actually...

I believe that whatever concerns music should be a good quality. My first choice would have gone to Sony mp3 players but they were way too expensive. So finally, I decided to pay attention to the Rio 600.

...
Pros: Compact, easy to use, nice form factor Cons: Tendency to break (read on), poor battery life, poor software
There are a lot of reasons not to buy this unit. I'll go into them in further detail below. But the overriding reason is that I believe there is a serious flaw in the design of the hardware. In fact, I'm surprised more folks haven't commented on this...
Pros: Nice look; easy to use; Mac compatible. Cons: Low memory; not Windows 95 compatible; no belt clip.
A Little About It
The Rio 600 by S3 (Diamond) is the latest in the Rio series. It's incredibly easy to use, but it only holds 32MB. Expansion options aren't available now, but are said to be in the near future.
Pros: free, endless, perfect quality music Cons: fiddly button

I found it, in the Rio 600.
Out of the package I found it ready to go. Put in the included battery and listened to pre-loaded music and a little...
Pros: Great sound quality, Excellent battery life, stylish, Informative LCD display Cons: Memory deficiency - Be sure to use WMA files for that reason

Pros: Cheap, cool, capable and customizable Cons: Low stock capacity, expandability options limited right now

Pros: Really Really Good Quality Cons: to much money for new music

When I first got the Rio 600, I was amazed with the great sound quality and overall features. On this mp3 player, the music sounded better than if it were coming straight off of the cd. The thing I like best about mp3's is that they never skip unlike a...
Pros: Style, speed and function Cons: Price and memory (or lack of)
In February I went to the local (an now non existent) Wards to see how their closing sale was going. I picked up all kinds of deals but this had to be one of the best. I got the Rio 600 for $60. I didn't know too much about portable MP3 players, but I...
Pros: This MP3 player is the best I could find Cons: Basic memory can't hold much

Pros: beautiful & cool design, very cheap, expandable memory Cons: unstable software, inaccurate battery gauge, comes with low memory
I bought this MP3 player about a year ago at my university's bookstore. I think they had mispriced it or something because it was only $29.00 (this includes a 20$ rebate, which i actually got back).
Pros: Small and lightweight. Cons: 32Meg is not enough memory to warrant purchase price.
Based on looks alone the Diamond Rio PMP600 looks like a winner. It's unfortunate that inside it's oddly shaped blue shell there isn't much. Visually appealing...but I wouldn't pay $165.00 for it.
Pros: Stylish, plays many types of formats! Versatile, interchangeable faceplates! Expandable! Cons: 32mb equals one 12 song cd! Not anybetter than a cd/mp3 player! expensively expandable!
Bought this a few years ago! Mainly bought it because it was versatile, I didnt know much about MP3 and should have done my research! 32mb is not enough, not even 64! I had the 32 mb one and could get about a 12 song cd on it with average quality music! ...

I purchased this unit at Circuit city because it was marked to $99, less $80 worth of rebates (so, $20) - too good to pass up. I was really happy with it for about 10 days, until it suddenly stopped working. Tried a new battery and - nothing. Brought...
Pros: Great sound, look, practicality, quality Cons: low in memory
The Diamond Rio 600 is a great mp3 player. I bought it because it has great sound and because of it's catchy look. The only problem is that it only has 32 megs of memory, which is a big setback. I don't think this mp3 player would be good for working...

The design is wonderful, it's easy to use, it's...
Pros: The Rio 600 is very small and portable. Cons: The Rio 600 does not hold a lot of songs
The Rio 600 by Diamond is a very nice MP3 player. The Rio is smaller than most other MP3 players. My Rio is nice due to the fact that you can get upgrades in storage for it, but that cost a little too much for me. The Rio 600 is great because you can...
Pros: Cheap enough and a high quality piece of gadgetry Cons: The faceplates are a rip off! £20 for three Virgin Megastores were asking!
Having paid £120 (GBP) for this at Our Price I thought I'd netted myself a bargain. Until I checked out amazon.co.uk's web site a month later and saw the 64 Mb version for a fiver extra. But you win some, you lose some I suppose. This DAP is more win...
Pros: wonderful for students, studying, travel Cons: nicks easily, battery gulper, more memory needed
Honestly, I love my Rio. But sweet Jesus, how many batteries can this thing suck down in a week? I rarely turn mine on, but despite even that, this uses an insane amount of battery power. I just actually pulled mine out of my purse the other day, turned...

Pros: Attractive, easy to use Cons: Two defective units in a row - it doesn't work
Unfortunately, I have to retract my previous recommendation of the Sonic Blue (formerly known as S3/Diamond) Rio 600. The original unit would simply stop dead, without warning, in the middle of playback. Sometimes I could get it to start working again,...
Pros: Lightweight, small, ergonomic, inexpensive. Cons: The buggiest software I have ever had the displeasure of using
The Rio 600 is attractive, comfortable to carry, and the price is certainly right (less than $200 Canadian). Unfortunately, the software that ships with the Rio which you're supposed to use to upload your mp3s and wma files, Rio Audio Manager, is buggier...
Pros: it is portable, lightweight, and great sound Cons: the memory expansions haven't come out yet
MP3 players are the newest technology in music and this great product from Diamond Rio is the newest technology in portable MP3 players. Although the unit only comes with 32 MB, but it is upgradeable to almost 370 MB. I have had this player for...
When I purchased my Rio600 back in December,

quality, and battery life were all outstanding. Then
the player inexplicably stopped...
Pros: Nice interface, great software, and lovely sound! Cons: Memory pack crap!
Well, I listen to my advice and got a RIO instead. It's amazing that I paid the same price for my RIO as I did for my crappy D-Link DMP110. The two players are lightyears apart in quality and value.
Pros: Small, Portable, Can Change Face Covers cheap Cons: Only has 32 megabytes of memory expansions are expensive battery last a short time.

Pros: Great sound, great price, expandable memory, USB, cool styling, changable faceplate Cons: Only 32MB built-in, expansions not available yet
Okay, I'm biased: I had a Rio PMP300 before, and I loved it. I bought the 600 after I gave the 300 to my cousin, and discovered that the 600 is simply the best MP3 player.
Now, there are many players out there that can do a lot of tricks,...
Pros: Very Fast Usb Transfer-Portable! Cons: Only 32mb, not alot of songs!

Pros: easy to use, cute, stylish Cons: bigger, no belt clip, no in-song repeat
I recently replaced the Rio 300 that I dropped with the Rio 600. It was supposedly a better MP3 player and I fell in love with the blue faceplate. In the future, I'll know better than to fall in love with an item for cosmetic reasons.
Pros: Good Sound, Easy to use, can hold lots of songs. Cons: Does not work for every computer
This is a extremely interesting product that I enjoy very much. It has great sound and really shows how good Mp3 players can be. It has pretty cool covers that you can take off and put other ones on.

This is a good mp3 player, but it needs to have more memory!! 32 megs can, generally, only hold about 5 or 6 songs. It is really easy to use, which i find a major plus. It looks great, too. I'm loving the USB transfers, its very quick. I used to...

Great Mac support Cons: comes with crappy headphones
broke within one week of use
single button controller awkward
The innovator, Rio started strong, defeating the RIAA in court. I think that should be rewarded. They went to great lengths to set up a web based MP3 port and have got new groups the exposure that they would have otherwise cost them their cherry to...
Pros: Unfortunately due to the cons I can only say the price. Cons: Power didn't turn on, software was giving errors.
My roommate was able to power his up and use his Rio 600, but has software problems on his. He called technical support and they said the would have to get back to him. Despite this occurring I decided to go to Circuit City and give it a try since they...
I received this product as a gift in January of 2001. By April of 2001, this product no longer worked. The problems started from the beginning. The first time i went to transfer songs onto the Rio 600, It only transferred 1/2 of the song, and then the...
Pros: No more c.d.'s, skips, or trips to the store. Cons: pricy
No more C.D.'s with MP3? If you understand the concept of MP3 it's to allow fast music downloads, and fast transfers to an MP3 player. Not knowing the current stand point of napster I wouldn't highly recomend an MP3 player. Without napster MP3 would not...
Pros: looks hot. small. backlit display. lots of onscreen options. Cons: it broke after about 1.5 months after I bought it, it was under normal usage.
I bought it after christmas, now, about 1.5 months later, the piece of trash sorry excuse for an mp3 player is broken cause it doesn't play the file correctly. There's this very loud crackling sound which got louder over time and the music is distorted...
Pros: Very stylish, easy to use, good sound quality, and inexpensive. Cons: Only 32MB of memory.
About two months ago, I purchased the Rio 600 at an online retailer. This is an excellent MP3 player. I was very surprised that I could get this kind of quality at such a low price. The main reason I bought it was because it looked “cool” and it was...
Pros: Inexpensive. Does the job. Cons: Difficult buttons.
I like my MP3 player. The buttons are testy...it is sometimes difficult to push the correct one. And the battery life is never as long as the readout says. But, it is inexpensive and works well.
Pros: Compact, cool design Cons: battery never held charge
I bought a 128MG version of this player two years ago from Sonic. It never held its charge and usually ran out of juice within one hour. I talked to tech support several times, did everything they told me, still it did not work right. They finally exchanged it, the new one did the same thing, then they exchanged that one, this last one was slightly better so I gave up and kept it.
You definitely do not get what you're paying for here with Sonic Blue players. They're shoddily made.
Pros: Good sound, bass, and treble Cons: Small design is easy to lose
This unit packs quite a punch. This unit will make your taste buds for music swell with joy. This unit is called the Rio 600. Despite its small size and its lack of any energy conservation, its packs quite a punch in a small package. Many options like Treble and Bass is on it. Yes, it is not fool proof and it does crash, but only if you're a person like me who fools around with an MP3 to see if it crashes and reports it to the manufacturer. This unit has a pair of bad headphones, MP3 software, and loud! This unit can pump out music so loud, I only use it at 3 or 4, even on an AIRPLANE! It is definently worthwhile to get it at < $20. It is limited to 32 MB, although buying alternate packs are available. NO, it cant read memory sticks or compact flash or whatever like those cards.
Overall the worst experience I've... by khb34_dt3000 ,Feb 24 '03
Overall the worst experience I've ever had purchasing something. I bought the item December 17th, 2003. It was defective. After several attempts contacting customer support I finally got information on how to send unit back. I sent the unit back within 2 weeks of purchase. To this day I'm stil waiting for my replacement. When I do get through there is always an excuse as to why my replacement hasn't been sent.
Player is fine. But software that comes with it is locked. In order to get the full capabilities you must go on line and register it to get the unlock code, which would be fine if the website was ever up. When you do register you get a confirmation email confirming the registration BUT informing you this will NOT unlock or upgrade your program. So in the mean time tech support suggests you re-register and re-register until the sites up to get the complete software. And I thought my biggest responsibilty was to purchase the product...

Ergonomically designed and easy to use with just one hand. Bright LCD screen displays song title, running time, and track number. On screen menu and controls easy to use. Has several custom presets for treble and bass, and allows you to customize your own.
32MB is good for about an hour of 64Kb-encoded WMA files, or half an hour of 128Kb-encoded MP3 files. Flashable ROM for future upgrades.
The included software is garbage. I use Windows Media Player to convert MP3's to 64Kb-encoded WMA files, and then transfer those files to the Rio.
Memory expansion comes in "backpacks" that cost around $65 for 64MB (which would give you a total of 96MB).

Overall a good product, small... by pinkmonk_dt3000 ,Jul 04 '02
Overall a good product, small compact, and it does what it says it does. It is not however worth the hefty $99 price tag, $75-85 would be more resonable. The sound is good, but at high volumes the bass becomes a little distorted, flowing into the high and mid-ranges. The software provided with the unit (RealOne Jukebox) works very well. Bundled with the unit are a pair of headphones and a belt clip case. The head phones are a little hallow sounding, but hey, they are free. Nice compact item for jogging or short trips.
